Finally finished my first hand knit headband. Normally I make little squares and put them aside. Being still fairly new to knitting I'm very happy with this. And I like the color. Done in seed stitch.
for when the tv knitting needs to be a shape, I have been referring back to this pdf for years for basic garter stuff. also handy when designing your own lace rot 😊
The one bizarre thing to me about textiles is that warp-weighted weaving is at least 6500 years old, but our oldest knitted artifacts are only ~1000 years old, and crochet 200 years old. Even though you need less equipment to knit (two sticks) or crochet (one hook) compared to warp-weighted weaving (frame, loom weights, batting, heddles). Why the big gaps between these inventions? And why did each one appear and spread when it did?
Venting Doesn't Reduce Anger, But Something Else Does, Study Finds : ScienceAlert
I had initially found this on Tumblr and couldn't find it again. I liked the article because it came at a time that helped me reflect on a moment I had the other day. A moment I hadn't felt in about 10 years. #venting #angerreduction #angermanagement
Over two three-month periods, researchers sampled air quality at five sites along metro Atlanta interstates and highways. When compared to similar sites without vegetation, the researchers found a 37% reduction in soot and a 7% reduction in ultrafine particles at sites with natural or ornamental vegetation.
The findings appear in the journal PLOS ONE.
“Trees and bushes near roadways don’t solve the problem of air pollution caused by motor vehicles, but they can help reduce the severity of the problem,” says lead author Roby Greenwald, associate professor in the Georgia State University School of Public Health.
And I know this is where I put my fic and stuff. But except for occasional life updates I tend to keep it to that.
But.
I've worked on this for 3 months and I'm proud as absolute hell.
It measures around 6 1/2 ft (214cm) across and I'm quite proud.
I still have to actually assemble it, and that is going to be a whole ordeal, but still.
I'm really proud of this.
Not being able to work and struggling to write with all my recent health issues has really taken a lot out of me. Just kind of sitting around being useless and expensive.
Made my middle child a beanie. Since I'm still just working in single colors, I did that duplicate stitch thing to add the pattern. It's a bit crooked but I'm okay with that. I added the brim by hand.
Incels and other sexist men can’t see a woman doing something incredible without fuming and trying to discredit her. They’re now dissing on Katie Bouman, who helped write one of the algorithms that got us the black hole picture, saying she was just an assistant (they don’t know what assistant professor is), and using Andrew Chael, her colleague in the Event Horizon Telescope team who helped write one of the codes, as ~the true person behind the codes who is being erased by this anti-men society~ or whatever. They’re even saying crap like “lmao women really don’t do shit”. Andrew took to Twitter himself to call bullshit on that.
If y'all can spread this thread to counter such narrative it’d be great.
