Lacey & Chester
❤ Whoinitiated the first kiss: Lacey was the first one to initiate the kiss, although her advances failed, seeing how she was drunk and generally not in agreat place in her life. The second time they got close to a kiss, Chester wasthe one to initiate it. That time it worked out.
❤Who said ‘I love you’ first: Lacey. They were lying in bed and Chester wasalmost asleep when Lacey said it. The words were a soft whisper, but Chesterheard it and was quick to tell her the same.
❤ Who was the one to propose: Chester. Lacey wasoverjoyed and couldn't get a word out, so she resorted to enthusiastic nodding.
❤ Who stressed more over wedding planning: Definitely Lacey. Shekept suggesting having a small ceremony, but then Chester noted about hisrelatives coming in and the plans had to be scrapped. Lacey was definitelyoverwhelmed with Chester's wealth and her constant source of stress were theprices which she always deemed too high. Chester often disagreed.
❤ Who initiates bedroom fun: Lacey. She enjoys dressingup in fun little outfits and surprising him, sometimes pretending to be someoneelse and generally having fun with sex. Their sex life is the least boringaspect of their relationship.
❤ Who suggested kids first: Lacey.A couple of years down the line becoming a mother and raising children withChester was all that she dreamed of.
❤ A head canon: When Chester first asked her out Laceysecretly went to some etiquette classes, afraid to embarrass Chester in arestaurant. Chester found out the day of the date and instead of taking her to afancy restaurant, he took her to Granny's, to show her that it didn'tmatter to him. Lacey still considers that to be one of the most romanticgestures ever.
❤ Their relationship summed up in a gif:

Chester grinned at the gasp and lent forward slightly, changing his posture so that he was all but reclining along the branch with ease that simply didn’t seem human. His grin widened, an almost impossible feat, and he looked down on the girl, Not Alice, and tilted his head slowly, like he were considering whether or not to finish a meal when he wasn’t all that hungry. “I know you. You’re Not Alice.” He chuckled, a deep, guttural noise, and let an arm hand loose, the picture of ease. “The Red Queen.” he clarified, as though he needed too, “Its been a new Wonderland with her, very rough justice all round. Not like in the old days.” He trailed off, the finger of his dangling hand waving idly, much like a felines tail would do.
“When one see’s an open door, one must always be sure to take it. Provided they’re the right size with an amicable doorknob. Such touchy pieces of furniture.” he commented, his eyes lazily half closed, despite the ever present grin. “I’m looking for Alice, or Hatter. Have you seen them? Being alone is putting me off my hunt.” He made an idle ‘hmm’ noise at the mention of her incarceration. “Must be a different Queen then, the Red Queen just cuts off your head, it makes having pleasant conversation so very difficult.” he blinked slowly, his head and dangling hand seemed to be the only parts of his body that moved. He sighed lazily and spoke again, “If you don’t know who you’re trying to find then it doesn’t matter who you come across. Provided you cross someone before they cross you.”
Tumblr media
Lacey took a sharp breath as the man leaned down closer to her. The way he moved, his pose and even the expression on his face made her very uneasy. He didn't seem like a man, and yet he definitely looked like one. At his claim that he knew her, Lacey opened her mouth to reply, but the words got stuck in his throat. "You're right. I'm not Alice," she spoke, her voice still hushed, "I'm..." and then she broke off, her eyes growing wide for a moment as she even took a small step backwards, surprised and bewildered. No, she wasn't Alice, definitely not, but she also wasn't the one she claimed to be. "I'm not Lacey," she exclaimed, slowly, confusion settling in her face. "I was, but I'm not really her, am I?" The question was hardly directed at him as Lacey glanced back at the house again. "It's a curse. She must have cursed me. What if I haven't even really escaped?" Lacey could feel dread settling in, but she quickly bottled it up and refocused on the problem at hand. Panicking would do absolutely nothing good for her. "Who are you?" She asked slowly, tilting her head. "And who's Alice?" They could try to help each other out.
At the mention of the Red Queen and Wonderland, Lacey shook her head. "It's the Evil Queen, not the Red Queen. Haven't even heard of her. How much time has passed since the Ogre wars? I keep getting the feeling that so long has passed... what if he's dead?" Not knowing who she was looking for made the question was very hard to answer. "And this isn't Wonderland. That's not how we call it. But I've read stories," although Lacey never believed them to be true. Yet, if she thought about it, she couldn't say for sure that she was in the Enchanted Forest either. Something felt... off.
Lacey raised an eyebrow at his comment about the furniture, but that was it. Besides, the grin on his face was making her question the decision to talk with him in the first place. What if he was just stalling until the Evil Queen came back? "No, I told you, I haven't seen anyone. For years," the people that the man was looking for could have been back in the house - although why should they? The Queen had a castle with towers and dungeons. The house was... whatever it was. "I don't doubt it," she commented dryly as she took few small steps forward. "Look, I don't know the queen you're talking about, but the Evil Queen is very real and she's here and so I have to keep moving until she finds me again. I'd suggest you leave too, she's not known to be compassionate." Lacey pulled a couple of branches out of her face as she walked deeper into the forest. "I'll know who I am looking for once I find him," she replied quietly, determination in her voice.

“Well, more like someone,” Angel said, “A really close friend of mine moved here and I needed a fresh start. Hey! You might know him. His name is Schaun.” She zipped her bag back up and watched Lacey take the pills. “Anytime! Headaches can be awful I get it,” She smiled sympathetically. “Sure why not. Everyone like stories right? Who should go first.” She kept looking over the menu, and finally settled on Lacey’s suggestion. A burger really did sound good. A tall waitress with pig tails came over and took their orders. “I’m sure it is. That’s the best part of little towns like this, the food is always good,” she said as she sipped her drink.
Tumblr media
Lacey tilted her head a little bit to the side as Angel spoke about who she was looking for. She opened her mouth to say something when Angel said the name Schaun. Lacey fell quiet and still, just watching the girl in front of her. It was as if that name pulled Lacey straight out of the dazed state and back into reality. Schaun. Of course. "You'll find him," she said dryly, darting her eyes to the table. Would Angel like what she'd find? And why was Lacey still so hung up on what had happened so long ago? Her thoughts of Evil Queen and her dreams disappeared somewhere in the background as Lacey still tried to understand how she felt over yet someone else coming for Schaun. "He's lucky to have you looking for him," she said quietly, unsure of what it meant. Was he still with Mara? Man it was messed up. Was she supposed to tell this girl about what had happened? "My stories, they are... I only recently realized that they're not that fun to listen to," she admitted, her voice losing the dazed quality that it had before. "Maybe you should go first? I'd love... love to hear how you've met Schaun." Or maybe she'd love not knowing anything about it and just moving on. Truly, it was hard to say. Ordering the same, Lacey stayed quiet, only offering a small smile to Angel at her comment about the food.

chesterpurr:
He was sated. He’d dealt with his urges and chased prey through the forest, they’d scattered before him, as they should for one of his standing. He was wondering now, he couldn’t find Hatter, or Alice. He hadn’t seen them in so long, why were they avoiding him? Had the Queen of Hearts taken them? Or were they playing a game? Games could be fun. He’d reached the edge of the forest, he rarely left it unless he had too.
While all these thoughts were passing though his mind Chester’s body was moving on autopilot, his clothes torn about the edges, the odd scratch on his face, and an enormous grin on his face. It was an unnerving smile the way a predator would look upon it’s next meal when it knew it was cornered. His gait was leisurely and smooth, despite his posture, hunched forward, back bent slightly and head sticking forward. He saw a person standing close by and froze, one foot half raised. He changed his course and slowly, quietly climbed his way up one of the nearest trees to see the person, the woman, better. He moved closer and closer, until he was staring down at her from his position in the tree.
“You’re not Alice.” he said, voice deeper, rougher, “Has the Queen taken her?”
Tumblr media
The meeting with Regina must have clicked something in Lacey's mind, because every night since that incident she'd dream of the Evil Queen. A man with a hook for his hand would often make an appearance too, but it didn't shake her as much as finding herself imprisoned by the Mayor. Lacey never went to that appointment that Regina set up, because even if she knew that Regina was not some Evil Queen, she just could not shake the feeling that it was best to stay as far away as possible from the Queen. She also tried her best to keep her ramblings to a minimum, after she had quite obviously confused a couple of her customers. She ended up addressing some of them in fairytale names and her father had banned her from work, saying that she was ruining the business and scaring people away.
That left very little for Lacey to do. She'd stay in her room, reading, until it felt like she was locked up in a tower and then she'd get out. Roam the woods behind her house or just sit on the porch until it got so cold that she'd have no choice but to go inside. That day, she had fallen asleep with her face on a book and ended up having the same dream. It started nice, she was kissing someone, her heart filling up with happiness because it was working - what was? - but as always, the dream turned into a nightmare when Regina showed up. Once more Lacey found herself locked up and chained, sobbing into the mattress because she lost him. As the doors to her cell opened with a loud bang and the man with the hook showed up, Lacey woke up, her heart pounding heavily and her cheeks wet from tears. She glanced around her cell only to notice that the door was left open. Very quietly she got up and made her way across the cell, unsure if it was not a trick by the Evil Queen. Seeing no one in sight Lacey climbed down the stairs, not recognizing the place that she was in. But it mattered little to her as she saw a forest through the window of the door and was overjoyed that it wasn't locked. Quietly, but quickly slipping out, Lacey turned for the forest nearby. She glanced over her shoulder to make sure that she wasn't followed as she reached the tree line. She needed to find him, she needed to explain to Rum- "AH!" Lacey gasped and took a step back as someone spoke to her. For a moment she was sure that she had been caught, but then her eyes adjusted to the dark and she saw the face of the person speaking to her.
She knew him. It made no sense, Lacey couldn't say from where, but she knew him. Yet his pose, the way he peered at her, there was something animalistic and terrifying about it. Lacey glanced over her shoulder again, debating whether she should turn around and risk running into the Evil Queen, when his words registered. "The Queen?" She repeated, speaking in a hushed tone, stepping closer. "Has she taken someone again? I'm sorry, I don't know, I didn't check, I saw the door unlocked and I ran," she tried her best to explain at the same time trying to determine if he was safe to talk to. "She had me chained and locked up for... it must have been years," Lacey's time perception was all fuzzy, but it did feel like a forever. "I saw a chance and I took it. I had to get out you see, I have to find... find..." a small frown appeared on her features when she tried to remember who.

ishalldestroyyourhappiness:
If Regina had any idea what was going on in Lacey’s mind she may have struck the girl there and then. As it was she was more focused on how she could get these silly notions out of Henry’s head and, almost as importantly, who on earth this W.G was. The initials were ringing some bell and it was irritating her. “I shouldn’t think so. Young boys grab flowers from the forest to bring there mothers and he’s too young to be frequenting bars. Beyond that there’s nowhere else I hear you go.” The girl had annoyed her, so frankly Regina was throwing verbal punches thick and fast. She rolled her eyes, all this was giving her a headache. “You said that not me, God. There is something wrong with you and you went on muttering about why you never should have left.”
Regina felt a nasty grin come up on her face at the look the other was giving her. She was angry, oh yes. But more importantly she knew there was absolutely nothing she could do to stop her. Regina would, and always did, win. She wasn’t about to stop now. “Good girl.” she said when the other agreed to her meeting. “And make sure you’re completely honest with the good Dr. Hopper. He and I are, very close.” And confidentiality or not she could get that little bug to give her any information she desired. The matter seemed settled to her and the girl would be stupid to push her any more than she already had. Regina could hardly believe she’d been so uppity. Not that it mattered, this was her town. “It’s exactly what I wish, for your safety as well as my town’s.” She felt her usual smirk on her face as she strode past Lacey to the door only for that light little words to follow and verbally smack her upside the head. She stilled, hand on the doorknob and turned back, her expression falling to one of hate, “Might I remind you that I am going home to my son, who loves me, followed by an evening out with a handsome man.” she paused, “And you’re surrounded by flowers and a father who cannot stand you. Still sure I’m the lonely one?”
Tumblr media
Lacey could have replied, but she stayed quiet on the comments about Henry and the insult thrown at Lacey. Yes, it was what she used to do. Funny, because getting a drink was the last thing on Lacey's mind at that moment. She felt an actual urge to rather try and research what was happening to her. Which was once more a very strange impulse. There was something wrong with her, there was no doubt about it. Although Lacey was not planning to see Dr. Hooper - not especially Regina made it absurdly clear that he was her lackey. "Of course. I'll be extremely honest." Frankly, most likely, she wasn't even going to go. What would Regina do then? Lock her up for being insane. That is exactly what she would do. The thought was unsettling, but Lacey didn't let it show. She'll think of something. It wasn't the first time she was in a tricky situation.... right?? Everything would have been done and over with if Regina hadn't stopped. Sure, maybe Lacey should have kept her mouth shut, but it was far too late for that. She could see how Regina's face quickly changed, but for some reason, Lacey felt absolutely calm. Her emotions were absolutely insane lately. "At least I can own up to it," Lacey replied, just as calmly as she stayed, holding the door wide open. "Have a nice day, Madame Mayor." Lacey couldn't have made her voice sound more fake even if she tried.

“I mean it is really nice, but I don’t know that its nice enough for normal people to leave their whole life behind,” Angel stated while looking through her own menu. Her eyebrows furrowed, “Do you need some ibuprofen? I think I have some in my bag?” Angel rifled through her bag and pulled out a bottle to shake a couple pills into her hand. “Here you can take these. That’s a really odd way to describe a headache. Maybe they are migraines. You should probably go see a doctor. And as for what happened to me, its kind of a long story.” She glanced back down at her menu, “So, how are the pancakes here? Or do they even serve breakfast all day?”
Tumblr media
"Most of them are drifters, I suppose. Or people like you, who came here looking for something. You won't believe how often they find it here. Are you looking for something?" Lacey asked, glancing up at the girl. It was people for some, a job, a place to start over... Glasswall should have read "Where people come to stay" on its sign. How come has no one ever said anything about it? As the girl pulled out painkillers, Lacey thankfully took them. "Oh, thanks, that's great! I've been eating these like candies the past few days." Which, probably, wasn't that great. "Well... I've got time if you wanna share? Stories... I love stories. Of heroes and such. Adventures..." the words came out of Lacey's mouth before she even realized that she was saying. It wasn't true. Lacey wasn't a big fan of reading. What was happening to her?? "You're at Granny's. Everything is great here. The pancakes are great. The waffles are great. But personally, I love the hamburgers. With ketchup."

tenderfoot-schaun:
Schaun stared in disbelief as she let loose her tirade. She slept around. Okay. He knew plenty of people who did and he wasn’t going to judge her harsher because she was a girl. That was stupid. She slept with married men. That tidbit was a little harder for him to swallow. All he could see for a moment was his mother crying as his father walked to the curb where his new flame sat waiting. A trick of the mind and Lacey was that flame. and he had to shake his head to bring him back to the present. This wasn’t the same. Lacey wasn’t that woman. She was just alone and lost. He hesitated before pulling her close. “You’re not a bitch, Lacey.” His voice was rough as he spoke, the emotions from his past welling up inside him. “Whether they tell you or not, they know and they take advantage of the fact that you have no idea what you’re worth. I looked at you that way because you are. You are precious and anyone who tried to tell you differently is out of their fucking mind.” His grip on her tightened in anger, not at her but at the string of men who’d made her doubt that. Taking a deep breath, he forced his hold to relax so he didn’t hurt her. “They suck. And if you feel that way, then you can do something about it. Things don’t have to stay like that, you know?”

As Schaun pulled her closer, Lacey stood stiff. She wasn't sure what she wanted, but she was damn sure that she shouldn't be talking with him. Not after everything, not after that note, not since she was apparently going crazy. Yet, as she stood there, her mind rebelling any sort of human contact, her body slightly relaxed into his touch and before she knew it she found herself crying softly into his shoulder. Maybe it was his words that affected her that way, or maybe the fact that she had been trying to fight it all alone and it caught up to her. She just wanted it all to stop. "I-I can't," she breathed out into his sweater, her voice quiet and hoarse. Was it true, though? Hasn't she changed so much already? Then why every fiber in her body was fighting against change? There was something she needed to remember, something so big, and then she could change... "I'm sorry I..." A feeling of panic set in and Lacey pulled away, wiping at her cheeks with the back of her hand. "I can't just wake up and be a different person." But wasn't that almost exactly what happened? Lacey felt an urge to get back home - at least there things were safe.

“That is a little odd isn’t it,” Angel said thoughtfully. “I mean I came looking to stay, but if that many people do come through and stick around….” She was caught off guard by the question. “Ummm…. yea…. yes I have,” she replied, thinking of her birth mother, as she played with the collar like choker on her neck. Turning the attention away from her response, she started, “Are you okay? Here! Maybe you should eat something?” Angel opened the menu in front of Lacey. I really wonder what’s on this girls mind. Ugh. It’s none of your business. If she wants to share she will. Still coaxing her wouldn’t hurt.  “Look. If you want to talk you can. Believe me I have no room to judge.”

She murmured to herself, ignoring the girl in front of her at the moment. "I'm sorry, I keep getting this headache and it comes and goes and it's like there's something so important that I just forgot... it's so annoying." Maybe Lacey was ought to go back to the bad. Maybe it was just a huge hangover after all those years she spent drinking? "Oh, you have?" The thought that someone else may have experience the same had her suddenly very alert. "What was it then? Maybe, just maybe, I'm not going crazy after all?" Or maybe she was ought to visit the psychiatrists. Although she wasn't very keen on it, not after how she behaved the last time she saw one... "Eat... yeah. That sounds great..." she murmured, opening up the menu.

Regina huffed before snapping back, “My Son. Who, unlike you is at an age where for a few weeks he can get away with it. As it stands he has spent too much time going on about curses and Enchanted Forests and I don’t need anybody else encouraging such thoughts in his mind.” The whole reason she had the boy in therapy was to keep him from delving more into his fantasies. Regina waited with crossed arms and an expectant look on her face. And the girl started reading and Regina had to keep her jaw from dropping, it was as though she’d been speaking the language her whole life! How on Earth had she acquired that skill? And then she was off again, falling into La-La Land. Regina shook her head, the girl had definitely gone through some kind of mental break and frankly she wasn’t about to let such things slide. “Who?” she asked, “Who is ‘supposed’ to have left?” She was determined to get some sense from Lacey. Damn. And here she was almost hoping for another chance to cause trouble for Margaret. Her eyes narrowed in on the note Lacey produced, and she snatched it away, stalking a few steps back to read it, “I thought you might like this. It’s a lovely story. W.G… W.G?” she muttered, where did those initials ring a bell? She didn’t know but she would make sure to find out, shoving the note into her pocket.
Regina brought her phone out and was already finding Sidney’s number, she’d get that lazy excuse for a reporter on the case and find out just who this W.G thought he was, stirring up trouble in her town. She’d make him pay. “Your own time?” she fired back, something like disbelief in her town, “I think not.” She changed her mind and dialled a different number, keeping stern eye contact with Lacey while the phone rang, “Hello, this is Regina Mills. Put me through to Dr. Hopper, immediately.” There was a short delay before the man picked up, “Yes, hello. I’d like to make an appointment on behalf of Ms Lacey French… Why yes she’s been acting most disturbingly of late and I’m afraid she may cause harm to herself or others… Oh no, there’s no need to get the hospital involved, yet.” That last word a threat just for Lacey, “Excellent. Be sure you contact her soon Hopper. You know I hate waiting for good results.” With that she hung up and smirked at Lacey. “Don’t think for one moment I won’t intervene as I see fit. This is my town. And you will obey my rules if you expect to find any kind of happiness within it.”
Tumblr media
Regina's answer about her son gave Lacey an idea. She probably should try to ask him. Sure, it was a weird idea that the mayor's son might have some answers, but what else could Lacey do? She was quite willing to do just about anything to make the headaches go away or to at least understand what she kept dreaming about. "Don't worry. I've never met him." And if she was planning to meet him, Regina didn't need to know that. Rubbing her temples she tried to get rid of the sharp pangs that would still come and go. "What?" She murmured, frowning a bit. "What are you talking about? Who left?" Did someone leave? Lacey wasn't sure. Hearing the note being read out loud she grimaced. Maybe it wasn't entirely rational, but Lacey definitely blamed the note and the book for how she was feeling lately.
She watched how the Mayor pulled out her phone and slowly Lacey's frown turned into annoyance and then slight anger. Who the hell did she think she was, ordering Lacey around like that? However, a part of Lacey screamed at her that she shouldn't get into a fight with the Mayor. Regina was dangerous and evil and Lacey knew that she was capable of far worse. Not that Lacey had any idea how she knew that, but it was as clear as knowing that the sky was blue and the grass was green. "Very well," she mumbled, a clear frown on her face. Fine, she could play that game. She could go see a therapist and then get back to her usual life. Besides... a small voice in the back of her head was being rather insistent with the ever so present whisper saying 'but what if you are insane?' Lacey closed the book and walked over to the door, turning the sign to 'closed' as she opened the door for the mayor to leave. "I'll close up then, if that's what you wish," she spoke, her voice clear, no sign of despair that it had just a moment ago. "What a lonely life you must have to be so resentful," Lacey then added, watching Regina innocently.

“Oh. Yeah. No I’m not. I’m actually from Detroit,” Angel smiled, tucking her sketches onto the seat beside her, “I’m actually here to find an old friend. I actually am looking to live here kinda long term. Ya know?” Did she say Evil Queen? Maybe the girl was a lot more tired than she thought. “Well your accent is really cool, whether you speak french or not. I’m Angel Street. Nice to meet you. Oh, what were you going to say about the people coming through town?”  The conversation was at least proving to be interesting if nothing else. Still she wondered of there was something wrong, but then again maybe she was home schooled or…. something? Whatever it was, lacey was a little odd, sweet but odd.
Tumblr media
"Detroit..." Lacey repeated, a thoughtful expression on her face. Having never left Glasswall before, any other town really seemed like something magical. She once again felt the urge to get out from Glasswall and see the world. Travel. Have adventures. The sudden sharp pang which hit her made her stop dreaming about things which were simply unattainable. "Ugh, thanks." Lacey never really thought much about her accent. Which was weird, given how her father never had one and picking it up randomly seemed rather curious. However, she couldn't fixate on it that much. "The passersby they tend to... they tend to stay...." Lacey frowned a little as she said that. They did, didn't they? Almost everyone she met who claimed to be just passing through, they stayed. "Have you ever woken up and suddenly realized that some things just made very little sense?" She suddenly asked Angel, a bewildered expression on Lacey's face. How come they all stayed?

tenderfoot-schaun:
Schaun cursed to himself and went after her. The hurt expression, the curling of her shoulders cut at him. He’d never say those things about a woman, not that Lacey knew that. She probably thought the worst of him. He reached out with his uninjured hand to stop her and turn her toward him. “Hey,” His voice was soft. “I really was yelling at the car.” He gestured to his injured hand. “She bit me.” He tried for a smile, but it came out forced. There were a million things he wanted to say, a million questions to ask. Each thought tripped over the next in his mind. Finally, he decided to just go for it. “I know you probably hate me right now and I can’t even blame you for that. I am sorry for it though. The whole … situation is just … Well, it’s not something I ever saw happening, especially not after my dad. So, I probably overreacted, but I want you to know that I don’t hate you. I don’t think any different.” He was rambling and he needed to stop. He knew that a future with Lacey was likely not to be. The thought made him sad, but maybe it was for the best.
Tumblr media
Lacey just wanted to get home. But she knew she had to deliver the flowers first and really, with all that had been happening, should she even be concerned about all that mess with Schaun? No, she shouldn't have been. However, despite how she tried to rationalize it, she could not force herself to forget about it.  That was when Lacey felt his hand on her shoulder and she stopped to look at him. Her eyes wandered to his hand for a moment and she shook her head a bit. It really didn't matter though, did it? She listened to him apologize and she took a deep breath as she squeezed her eyes shot. "Stop. Stop apologizing. To me you didn't do anything wrong. You know why? Because it's true. Because I am a bitch," opening her eyes she stabbed them at his, determination and also something hidden and pushed deep down glinting inside. "And I know you're going to tell me 'oh no, you're not', but I am. That's why I got so angry back then - because it just proves time and time again that I am an awful person. I sleep around constantly. I've been with married men and sure I always say to myself that it doesn't matter, because they never tell me, but most of the time I can guess and I just never really cared about it. And I got angry, because you looked at me as if I was... precious and it was such a huge lie on my part, and I should have asked, but I didn't, because even if I had known I would not have really cared." Lacey's voice trembled as she said the last words, because for the first time she realized just how true they were and gods how could she have done such things? She fell silent for a bit and then glanced away, unable to take his gaze. "So no, you may not hate me, but it doesn't matter, because right now I hate myself enough for the two of us." But the worst part was that even though Lacey knew what she had done, deep down she felt as if she had never even been properly kissed. That moment she really wished she could be as ignorant as she used to be right before those damn nightmares started.

ishalldestroyyourhappiness:
Regina let out a noise of irritation, “You aren’t the only one who’s been a little too obsessed with fairytales lately and I have heard enough about it.” Frankly the way the girl was going she may get Hopper or that British boy over here to check her out just in case. “Book?” she asked, eyebrows rising. Without another word she moved over and picked up the book. She narrowed her gaze at it and flicked through the pages. It was written in French? Regina had taken the subject and could just about make out the words, the odd one beyond her. “Read it. The first paragraph of the page.” she demanded, passing the book over to the girl, she had just read and wanted to know if Lacey was lying or not. “Someone?” she stepped closer again, “Was it Margaret? The school teacher?” she asked, thinking that woman might be spreading trouble just like Swan was.
Regina was waiting for the girl to crumble. Aside from Swan no one was stupid enough to try and stand up to her. They all knew she owned this town and everyone in it could be made to bend to her will. And frankly, she was irksome enough of late that it wouldn’t take much to really rile her up. “Really?” Regina asked, feeling the beginnings of disconcertion. Why the hell was this girl not quaking in her boots? She knew enough of the girl, and had heard more than one rant from her father when he delivered, she shouldn’t have a spine! And the more she spoke the more the feeling within Regina grew. She brought her hands up and crossed her arms. Bringing her chin up as well, her whole posture screaming superiority. “Oh I could think of a few things that seem to have come over. An obstinate disposition for one.” she said wryly, not understanding how the girl could be the wreck she knew her to be one minute and someone with courage the next. She took a deep breath. “Be sure that you do. I think if were to continue serving the way you are only bad things would happen. You might want to consider paying a visit to Giminy’s while you’re at it.”

"Who else is obsessed with fairytales?" The question came out before even Lacey had any time to think of it.  But somewhere deep inside her mind it felt important for her to know anyone else who might be thinking or even talking about fairytales lately. And it wasn't just because she loved the stories - wait. Lacey was never really interested in fairy tales, has she? Why would she think that it was? But it quickly lost importance as she watched how Regina picked up the book. Why she was suddenly filled with inexplicable dread? Before she could react, the book was shoved into Lacey's hands and her eyes were running over the lines that she had almost memorized by that point. The headache was coming back, pounding in her ears, but Lacey still managed to open her mouth and read the first few sentences out loud in absolutely perfect French. However it didn't take long for her to break off and press her hand against her temple as she slammed the book on the counter. "I can't, no, I can't, this headache is killing me," she breathed out, squeezing her eyes shut again. The emptiness was back, filling her insides. "Please, please don't make me read it again, I just can't I miss him, I should have never left..." Lacey's rambles were slowly becoming incomprehensible as she covered her face with her hands. As soon as the book was put away, Lacey could feel the headache subsiding, her thoughts becoming clear again. At the question of some teacher, Lacey just shook her head and slowly pulled out the note which was placed in between few book pages. Handing it to Regina she began rubbing her temples. Frankly, she didn't care about the note, she just wanted the headache to stop.
Her newfound courage helped little with the constant pains and for some reason it felt like Regina was only making things worse. So she stayed quiet as the Mayor spoke, keeping her posture straight and her chin up. She wasn't going to let the Mayor win - win what?! Clearly Lacey's thoughts made very little sense, but she had a feeling that she wasn't supposed to let Regina know that. Regina was still a threat and Lacey couldn't shake the feeling that the woman had taken something from her. Something very important. That was why, despite the headache and the disorienting thoughts in her head, Lacey managed to keep her chin up as she eyed the mayor. "I'll make sure that I do," she replied, her voice shaking just a tiny bit. "On my own time." She was just digging herself a deeper hole, wasn't she?

firefliesanddaydreams:
“Is everything okay,” Angel said, trying to lighten the mood, she continued. “I know it’s not my business, but feel free to talk. If you want to. If not we can both eat in peace, either way I don’t care. At least we can both eat sat at a table.” It really was getting busy in the little building. She wondered how there can be so many people in one place in such a little town. “Seriously though, if you need anything let me know,” She smiled, turning her attention back to her sketches. Angel figured it wouldn’t take long and the girl would be talking or asking questions.
Lacey just smiled at the girl as she talked. She had never seen her around before and that usually meant that she was new. Glasswall was small enough that everyone knew everyone. It was rather nice to be sitting with someone who didn't know everything about Lacey's past. Plus, with everything that had happened recently Lacey could really use someone who didn't judge her. "You're not from around here, are you?" She asked, gripping her mug tightly in her hands. "Not that it's bad. I'm just not sure if you will find here what you are looking for." Maybe Lacey was being just a tad too pessimistic with a person she had just met. "I meant... the passersby that come through here, they..." Why did everyone choose to stay in the town? Glasswall had so little to offer with such horrible people running the town. Wait, why horrible? "She's not the Evil Queen..." Lacey murmured under her breath, trying to remind herself that the Mayor was just Regina and no one else. "I'm sorry, I.... I'm Lacey. French. But I don't... I don't think I speak French." Even she realized that she was sounding like a crazy person.

ishalldestroyyourhappiness:
Regina had been angry, assuming that Swan had been taking Henry about town so he could spread that damn story to the whole town. And then when Lacey finally sputtered out her reasoning Regina went still. “Dream?” she asked, “Why on Earth are you dreaming about an Evil Queen from some fairy tale? They aren’t real. They’re useless drivel used to encourage children to sleep. They should be put away once they’re old enough to tie their own shoes.” she snapped, irritated beyond belief that someone other than her son was indulging in such nonsense. Was she going to have to increase his time in therapy? It may seem harsh but it may have been a good idea. If Henry heard other citizens were talking about such things it would only fuel the fire. She made a noise of irritation as the other spoke again. “I’m quite aware. Oh all the reputable skills you’ve put about town your language aptitude is not one of them.” she had her hands planted firmly on her hips, “I was dressing you. You, Lacey French.” she said the name slowly, “Which makes the copy of Beauty and the Beast you have laying around all the more confusing.” There. She’d made her points and been firm, now the girl would crumple and get herself sorted out or else Regina would have to speak to her father. The man’s rent could always go up, especially now she was so close with the bank they were practically in bed together. And then… That! Her eyes widened, her mouth dropped slightly and for a few seconds she was in shock. The girl had a backbone. She didn’t like it. And her eyes narrowed and she took yet another step closer, “Now you listen to me, little girl.” her voice in that deep, slow, threatening tone again. “I am not some patron at that bar you all but live in. I am the Mayor, I own this town! And you best be very careful, because if you make me any angrier? Well, you have no idea what I am capable of.”

A small frown appeared on Lacey's face as Regina spoke about fairytales. "I never said they were real," she explained, her voice quiet. "You can't decide what you dream. It just happens.  It's all because of the stupid book." She should have never picked it up. And she definitely should have never read it. Things were only getting worse after she did. However as Regina insisted to talk about the book, Lacey glanced almost fearfully at it. It was insane to blame a book for all that had been happening to her, but she really didn't know what else could have caused it. "Someone just sent it to me. I..." she was about to tell the mayor that she could actually read it, when she decided to keep it to herself. There was absolutely no need to share something which was simply so unbelievable. The courage which flared up seemingly out of nowhere and started coursing through Lacey's veins kept her in place even when Regina started threatening her. For some reason deep down Lacey felt like she could withstand anything that the Mayor threw her way. Because she already had once - and because if she didn't have courage then what was the point of her? Yet, the feeling was new and she wasn't yet sure how to deal with it.  "I'm starting to get the gist of it," Lacey replied slowly, a small frown on her face as she tried her best to understand what was happening. Whatever it was, one thing remained quite obvious - there was no need to get into a fight with the Mayor. Especially not when Lacey rarely felt like herself. "As I've sad, I've had very little sleep lately. I'm not sure what has come over me." Or why was she suddenly so calm when she knew full well that Regina was a threat? "I'll close down for today. Wouldn't want to scare any customers..." She was really ought to take a day off. Her moods changed instantly, she kept having the same nightmare and the hallucinations... maybe she was just sick?

firefliesanddaydreams:
“Hey! Its fine! There is no where else to sit. The place is packed,” Angel said. Sure, she didn’t really want company, but she wasn’t about to make some one stand to eat. Especially not this girl. She looked so… frazzled? Angel lightly touched her hand, “Look. You don’t have to talk or anything if you don’t want to. I’m not one for conversation usually, but you look like you need to sit for a little while.”
Lacey stilled and glanced around as the other girl pointed out that the place was packed. On one hand, that made her want to leave all that more, but she also knew that she definitely had to eat. Besides the girl seemed sweet and Lacey could use someone nice to keep her company. “I... thanks...” She breathed out as she sat back down. “Yes, I suppose I need just to sit and relax for a bit. Lately I’ve been quite out of my mind.” Figuratively and literally. Not that she was about to go and tell people that.
