Additional IDW: Megatron is part of the disenfranchised working class (v simplified terms, there's lots of racism too) and is a miner/poet/written revolutionary who turns into a gladiator when circumstances push too hard. OP is a cop who agrees the system needs to be changed and comes to Megs' defense on multiple occasions. They disagree about the way to change the system, Megan chooses violence, and a four million year civil war ensues with them leading opposing factions. Then Megs defects after the war leading to the angst mentioned above.
we need more divorcebaiting. how strongly can canon imply (without technically outright stating) that these two characters are bitterly, acrimoniously divorced? essential we explore this

#mtmte#idw1#idw megatron#yup#it's a lot easier to swallow his struggle to come to terms with/attempt to make up for his shit when you're like#Not actively watching him abuse Starscream or try to murder entire populaces or successfully murder entire populaces#Or cyberform planets or approve death camps or authorise the djd#don't get me wrong i fucking *adore* megan's arc#but like.#getaway and the other deserters have a very valid reason for why the apparent 'slap on the wrist' nature of his sentencing pissed them off#i'd be pissed off too but it's a lot easier to shift that off when you're reading the story#vs the characters experiencing it who don't give a fuck abt the narrative weight of attempted redemption#and who just want their fucking friends back
