Reading the wheel of time and constant running into the phrase “she crossed her arms beneath her breasts”. It’s in every chapter, i swear to god. what happened to “across her chest” or “across her stomach” or “across her ribs”.
Small pet peeve but my god is it getting on my nerves. cause as someone with boobs i literally never think about it as crossing my arms beneath my breast

To my dear friend, Jek,
When this letter reaches you, I will be dead. ---------------------------------------------
Before Beloved faces their death, they write a series of letters to say goodbye to the friends they are leaving behind. However, Jek is not having it and is fully ready to go punch the face of the man who led her friend straight to her death. Amber may have been blinded by her love, but Jek isn't. And Tom what-his-name deserves it.
AKA: What if Jek came to yell at Fitz at the end of Tawny Man, and a lot of problems were solved a lot sooner with a lot less pain?

Do you love JayVik? Does the idea of soulmates so entwined that their love goes beyond the bounds of friendship and romance appeal to you?
Then let me put you on a book series called the Realm of the Elderlings. Fitz and the Fool take this concept and blow it to the stratosphere.
I’m talking soul-bonding, tender kisses in quiet moments, feelings of unrequited love (but also kinda not) and literal soul-crushing agony (in the best way).

Thinking about this Reddit post again. I haven't read through all the comments, but "Fitz could never feel safe coming out to Robin Hobb" is permanently burned into my brain.
(My rambling is too long for the tags, so this is my compromise.)
I do sometimes wonder if 2008 Robin Hobb just didn't know the nuances of queer identities. Like, it's fair to think Fitz is sexually attracted to Beloved, but I don't personally care about that. However, there is definitely something queer about the bond between those two and we all know it. I can also see it being romantic and not sexual, or some kind of intense queerplatonic partnership, but it is most definitely not straight.
It's wild to me that she would have said otherwise. I can't help but wonder if she'd have phrased this differently if she knew that, for instance, sexual and romantic attraction are separate categories.
I don't even feel like she needed to say anything on the topic, which is why it's so wild to me that she wrote a whole Thing about how he's straight. My more charitable interpretation is that she's sick of everyone making everything about sex, which, fair. But... well. That's not what she said.
That doesn't mean I think the books should have ended differently. Part of the tragedy of Fitz as a character is that he can't let himself be who he is. It was a heartbreaking and beautiful ending to a heartbreaking and beautiful story.
Side note: I haven't really done any fact checking on this one. I don't know if the original website post exists anymore, but I'm curious if anyone has further information on it, because this is just a link to a quote, so it's hard to verify.

literally. the whole paragon scene where he made fits experience that was genuinely insane. the whole series feels quite inconsistent with the rest of the books, and it’s a weak ending. there are some parts i liked but other parts where im confused as to why it went that way or concluded that way
some of the things i think hobb wasted in f&f (by far not all):
1. rosemary. i don't understand the point of setting her up as chade's apprentice, doing virtually nothing of note with her, then having her decide she doesn't want to be an assassin anymore, and even that we learn from a third party. why is she here.
2. kennitsson. also a waste of a character imo. based on how much fuss there was made around him when paragon docked at divvytown you'd think he'd be, like, an actual character involved in the plot beyond being utilized for a single event that immediately led to his death. otherwise he did nothing. fitz just mentions in his narration that oh yeah there's this guy on the ship and he's spoiled but he's trying to learn and he's kinda into this... 13-year-old girl... and now fitz is worried that he'll be like his father so we get a scene with paragon where hobb can't resist the siren call of bringing up rape again and making fitz feel the memories of it, in detail.
3. the fool's nascent elderling transformation due to the dragon blood. literally disappears in book 3. i thought it would've been a much bigger deal.

Robin Hobb wrote an entire series where Fitz spends his time sleeping with random people in the kingdom and the whole time he's like ' man... That felt empty and soulless and I miss having a soul deep connection with someone.... Unrelated, but I wonder what my beautiful ethereal platonic soulmate the Fool is up to ...'
