This is a card game called 'the Crew'. I am interested in this game because it is a game where you are cooperating with other players, but you still have to use social deduction in order to find out what 'tricks' that other players need.

This is a card game called 'Regicide'. It is a card game that can, apparently, be played with regular playing cards, but the actual box comes with custom cards, as well as instructions. I really like this game, partially because the way to play it sounds very interesting, and partially because I greatly enjoy the art style of the box.

This is a card game called ' Royal Visit'. I really like how the box for this game, at the very least, looks, especially with the various colours that work well together.

This is a card game called 'Once upon a time'. I quite like the look of these cards, primarily because of the font.

In the opinion of the creators of the linked article, the best quick card game of 2024 is a card game from 2015, Exploding Kittens. It is a game for ages 12+, and is the only one on the list that I am not yet to play. It has a very cute art style, full of cats and explosives, and is actually very strategic, though at first glance it may seem to be highly luck based.
This is a versus game, and the key thing is that since it is a versus game, you do not want the backs of the cards to reveal what card it is. Since mine are more cooperative, that matters less, and as such the different players in my game have cards with different backs, which helps everyone remember what role the other players have.

In the opinion of the creators of the linked article, the best card game of 2024 for travel is Sushi Go, a card game for ages 8+, where the aim is to create the most appetizing meal from a deck of cards. The art style is simple and cute, and it seems to be an enjoyable game, especially for young children.
This game has almost nothing in common with my game, other than the fact that it uses cards.

In the opinion of the creators of the linked article, the best card game for parties is Joking Hazard, an 18+ card game made by Cyanide & Happiness, and which uses the art style from the cartoon. The art style is really simple, with the characters generally being in a white void, and being just a coloured circle, rectangle and lines. People that enjoy Cards Against Humanity are likely to enjoy this game too.
This game has very little in common with my game other than the use of cards. Though it does have one player separated from the others in what they can do, this player changes each round, whereas in my game, it does not.

In the opinion of the creators of the linked article, the best horror card game of 2024, which is not a category that I personally sort card games into, is Arkham Horror: The Card Game, a highly complex game for ages 14+ rooted in the H.P. Lovecraft mythos. The art style of this game is slightly difficult to describe, the characters are pretty photorealistic, but the environments are a little less accurate. It is a simplified card remake of the Arkham Horror board game, and it has an interesting premise of consequences of your actions carrying over deaths.
The main similarity between this game and mine, is that (as far as I can tell) this game is cooperative, just like mine is.

In the opinion of the creators of the linked article, the best bluffing card game of 2024 is Skull, a game for people 14+, in which you are tasked with successfully making 2 'bids'. A bid is essentially a guess of how many cards can be turned over without one of them being a skull. The bid can be raised by other players, so it is imperative that you don't bid too low. The art style is rather simple, simply taking inspiration from dia de los muertos, the Mexican day of the dead.
There really isn't many link between Skull and my game, but the main similarity is the intricacy of the cards. Most cards are relatively simple, but mine are designed with ornate borders, and the cards from Skull have ornate designs all over the cards.

The creators of the linked article are of the opinion that the best card game for kids of 2024 is pokemon battle academy, rated 6+, an entry-point for the classic pokemon trading card game, which as far as I am aware isn't played much by kids anymore, though I may be wrong. I'm pretty neutral on the art style, it's just the classic pokemon style, there isn't much special about it.
There isn't really any link between this game and mine, especially since this is a trading card and deck-building game, while mine uses pre-made decks.

In the opinion of the creators of the linked article, the best card game of 2024 for families is Disney Lorcana, a trading card game for ages 8 and older, which has Disney characters on the cards. Because of the way that the cards are written, with all relevant information on them, it appears to be rather easy to get into, even if you have never played before. It's art style is not one that I am a massive fan of, but it is one that I am relatively neutral on. My main issue with it is that it doesn't seem to have much consistency. Some characters are in their original art style, usually characters from older films, whereas other characters are redrawn to match that style. However that is not always the case, as there are some cards which are redrawn in a different style.
There is not, as far as I can tell, any link between this game and mine, as this is a trading card game, while mine is not.

The authors of the linked article have the opinion that the best card game for adults of 2024 is Magic the Gathering, a well known, and moderately complex card game for people aged 13 and above. The article above focuses primarily on the Lord of the Rings expansions when talking about art, so I will also be focusing on that. The art style of the cards in the expansions is absolutely beautiful, being more in line with the official art for Dungeons & Dragons than the source material from LotR.
This game does not, as far as I can tell, have many links to mine. The main link is that both this game and mine use a fantasy theme for the world.

In the opinion of the creators of the linked article, the best overall card game of 2024 is Jaipur, a relatively simple card game for ages 10 and up, with the simple premise of trying to get the most points. It has a rather appealing art style, which looks hand drawn to me, but I could not find whether it was or not anywhere. The theme of the art and gameplay is that of Indian traders, and as such whenever a card has a border, it is very intricate.
There are not any similarities between this game and mine, as far as I can tell, but there are quite a few differences. The main difference is that this this game has a limit of 2 players, while mine is designed to be played with 3-5 players, though it can be played with 2.

How a change in subject can cause a change in audience in Operation
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Something as simple as a change in theme can massively change the target audience of Operation. For example, I may be interested in playing the base game, but I may not want to play the minions version. This could also be inverted, with someone only playing it because it is minions themed. With Rudolph as the subject, it is a similar story, though in this case it would likely be more seasonal than most other versions, likely being played mostly in winter.

How have the graphics changed in 'Operation'
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
One change in the design of the cover, is the orientation of the patient. Out of the four box arts shown, none of them have the patient pointed in the same direction. The text has also changed quite a lot, starting off quite jagged and in positioned in the top-left, before transitioning to covering the entire top of the box, and being much more bubbly and rounded. This potentially could have changed who would buy it as a smoother font may make parents think that it is more child oriented than jagged font may have done.

I think that some of the games in the above list have beautiful art, but around half of them I am less sure of. I am not a massive fan of the art for Carcassonne, Descent, Heroes of the grid, or Sentinels of the multiverse, and I am rather neutral to Wingspan's art (though I have heard that the art is gorgeous, and I have not seen many images of it. Some of the images are beautiful, but others are not, based on what I have seen, so I am neutral to it currently.
Because the images for the games are organized in a vertical list format, the first image that catches my eye is likely to be the first image in the list, which was the case. However, if the list were organized in a manner in which you could see all the game images when the page was opened, my attention would likely be drawn to the art for 'Root', because of it's simplified and colourful style.
I feel like this images does make for a good board game cover, though whether it is the best is debatable. The only other cover that I feel comes close is the cover for 'Kill Dr. Lucky', so it is between those two for which is the best.

How would I go about pitching an idea to Hasbro?
As stated in a previous post, Hasbro is not currently a board game company that I would wish to pitch my idea for a board game to. However it is still a good idea to look at the requirements for pitching an idea, and how I would do it.
First off, It would require carefully reading through the Terms & Conditions of the submission, as well as agreeing to them. These include, but are not limited to: the inventor waiving any claim or action against Hasbro for 1 year; that the inventor is at least 18 years of age, as well as above the age of majority in the jurisdiction in which the inventor resides; and that the inventor is the sole owner of the concept, with the alternative being that any collaborators must execute a hand signed confirmation of consent to the terms, within 10 days, with the confirmation being provided to Hasbro by the inventor.
Next, the submitter would need to provide information of name, address, and contact information. They should not include any other personal information, social media accounts, or photographs of anyone. The content of the game must also follow the following checklist:
DO NEED:
Information about you: Your name, email address and phone number
Information about your idea, its name and a description
A sizzle reel/video of your invention that's under 2 minutes (see below for more details).
Photos and documents of your invention (detailed sketches, CAD drawings, storyboards, photos of your prototype, technology specs, any granted patent information, etc.)
Think about what market your idea might belong to
DON'T NEED:
Please do not submit proposals for Hasbro to reintroduce any of its old games, toys, or puzzles, and remember that all submissions will be evaluated based on Hasbro's core values, such that you should not submit any materials that depict, among other things, racism, sexism, bullying, torture, sexual acts, terrorism, swearing, cruelty to animals, taking drugs, drinking alcohol, or intolerance or denigration of a particular religion, creed, or political philosophy.
Please also do not submit digital game and content concepts, video games, computer games, mobile apps, scripts, screenplays, storylines, plots, characters (including the appearance thereof, as well as any unique and identifying combination of character traits assigned thereto), and motion picture, television, and other entertainment programming concepts (collectively, “Entertainment Concept”)
You would then need to provide them with various information of the game, such as CAD drawings, Storyboards, Prototypes, etc.
You would then need to inform them of where you think your idea would sit in the market, as well as what categories best describe the idea.
