Concentration Final (Flower Pots)
What is the central idea of your concentration?
This concentration deals our hidden happiness in an age where it may be clouded with distractions, worries, and stress. I chose to represent happiness with flowers as the bright colors and natural shaped always tend to make me (and others) happy. Just like a flower, happiness is always blooming in some part of us. Simple studio portraits will emphasis style and color through juxtaposition with certain background photos, such as flowers, to create the subjects’ hidden sense of happiness. A part of the concept was the idea that happiness surrounds us. This is done through ambient backgrounds and floral patterns
How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea? You may refer to specific images as examples.
Each photo in my concentration has some sort of flower or plant blooming from the head of of the subject. Surreal photo editing techniques are utilized to create the parts in the face or head where the flower may come out of. These techniques include using masking layers to create multiple layer of depth and using the bevel tool to create the edges of the files in the head or face such as seen in 12. Overtime, I added some variety in my photos but adding these effects in different locations on the head or face. Other photos utilizes drop shadows and blending tools, such as the bevel and emboss, the to create a sense of depth, such as seen in 9. The ambient background was created unsung the pattern tool as well as a somewhat transparent gradient layer over the whole background. This added a separation between background and foreground to give more focus to the subject. Each photo was kept consistent with a bright, saturated foreground combined with a darker, unsaturated background.

Concentration Photo #8
This week I will try something a little different from my usual formula. The example video im using does not quite follow my concentration but it still has the same surreal portrait techniques I want to use. I think at this point I know enough to do my own masking layers with the flower collage part.

Blog Post Make Up
Ive been wanting to make some cool double exposure portraits in photoshop and I think this is a good time to learn how to. I want all these to be self portraits and maybe display some of my inner moods I go through each day. I want to start off with 4 photos but I might do more if I have the time. I also want to print these out and mat them as well.
Points: 80 points (20 points for each photo)
Public Connection: Post on instagram forum #doubleexposures

Concentration Week 2
Goal: This week, I will be working on surreal hollowed faces portraits. Photos will be taken on Tuesday (1-22-19). Two different photos with two different poses. Bright red and orange (separate photos) roses will be used for background/texture images. The red roses will hopefully give off a loving a more loving nature, while the orange roses will display off a more friendly, fun attitude.
Week 2 Subject: Felicity Hacker

This video tutorial dictates how to properly photoshop an face at an angle, including edges and shadows.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAzM_MRwN-U&frags=pl%2Cwn
This example is similar to the last, except is deals with cutting out only parts of the face and a frontal view of the subject instead of an angled one.

Concentration Week 1
Goals: This week, I will be working on face collages. The basic premise of this style is cutting out and replacing the either all or major parts of the face. I plan to take these photos in studio Tuesday (1-15-19), after school from 3-4 pm.  I plan to have two final photos with two different poses.
Week 1 subject: Indigo
Subject will be free to bring her own change of clothes of this shoot
Interview of the subject will be before photo shoot
Examples:
https://www.instagram.com/p/BqCZ8T6lyLc/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1pvapt15j6zg9
pose one will be facing straight towards the camera, this will make editing more simple and straight forward
https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq1G8PGF5K1/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=ka4x09okjs9v
pose two will be at a slight angle, this will make editing secondary pictures in more difficult, but it will also make the figure ground relationship more interesting

Collage Portraits: Simple studio portraits will emphasis style and color through juxtaposition with certain background photos, such as flowers, to create the subjects’ character.
Visual Questions/design problems:
How will color and style create characters?
How will the juxtaposition of photos (collage) create character?
How will studio lighting and setting help create better photos?
Examples:
https://www.instagram.com/inside_a_ginger/p/Bqcx4xRFGpf/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=ys0wpsmxljox
This collage replaces the head of the subjects with seemingly plants, one plant is small and spiky while the other if long and soft. This is something I will attempt to recreate in my photos, maybe even using two people with contrasting character at a time as well
https://www.instagram.com/p/BqyoyOwlxZ8/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=2ux478rpvw12
this example has the subject’s face cute off and replaced with and image of flowers. this is will be the main focus of my photos as I will be cutting through their face to “see” into their minds
https://www.instagram.com/p/BrLVwSqF6VS/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=1v1jigapb2kjm
This photo shows a little more action in the frame but has the subject holding her own face and flowers in her head. This might show how the subject looks upon themselves vs whats inside
https://www.instagram.com/p/BrHS_1zlKdm/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=3tiwvireufcv
This older portrait collage shows replaces his hair/headgear with flowers displaying his personality proudly. This is an example I am less interested as it takes out almost all hair on the head, which can be essential to the subject.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BrTE9hmF4u9/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=7uhxgff164y0
Ideas: The basic outline for the project is interview the subject to extract a personality. The main studio photo will have the subject wear clothing of his choice choosing to focus on a primary color. The background photo will be based on the personality/choice of the subject. This can anywhere from a bush of flowers to a red brick wall.

Figure Ground Relationship, Proportion/Scale
This is one of my better photos this year, I like this photo as it does a great job demonstrating figure ground relationships with distinct contrast between the dark subject and light background. The use of lighting and shadows also help solidify this relationship. The multiple sized wheels in each photo also show scale in relation to one another.
Mountain of the Sun
20.7x11 - Digital Photo
https://flic.kr/p/2dyHGzV
Balance
Another one of my favorites does a good job of creating balance with positive and negative spaces along with contrasting colors. The silhouette of the mountain creates a nice split between the bright orange sky and dark black mountain (my two favorite colors).
Fences
8.8x5.5 - Digital Photo
https://flic.kr/p/29iPrb1
Repetition, Unity/Variety
This photo of a half painted run-down old fence does a great job demonstrating repetition, unity and variety. The line in between the fences bring out the repetitiveness while the slants and differing colors bring out the variety.
From the Treetops
17x12.1 - Digital Photo
 https://flic.kr/p/2dyHGqM
Unity/Variety
I love taking photos of leaves, especially ones with vibrant colors. This photo has units with all of the leaves laid out on the backdrop while also displaying variety with the different shapes and color.
Another Brick
8.8x5.1 - Digital Photo
https://flic.kr/p/29iPrRu
Emphasis
I think unique photo of a dirty brick pathway emphasizes the shape of the brick through color. A few selected bricks are mask with an almost transept fill of a bright color.
Through the Forest
13.6x8.2 - Digital Photo
https://flic.kr/p/2dyHGz4
Repetition
I love taking photos of nature, especially trees. I really like this photo because the bare trees lined up perfectly to create this contrasting dark lines with a bright sunny background.
Up Above
20.3x13.5 - Digital Photo
Repetition
https://flic.kr/p/2dyHGuV
I really like the lines in this photo as well. The lines on the building all lead to the double cranes in the background. The bright and shiny building, and the construction sight in the background make and interesting scene.
Birds?
27.2x27.2 - Digital Photo
Emphasis
https://flic.kr/p/2csMBwh
This was a fun photo to work on. I really like the silhouettes if the birds in the plain sky so I emphasized on a single one while unifying the rest with a slight motion blur made with stacked layers. I also took advantage of the simples shapes and edited in bright colors.
Up and Down the Bend
9.2x12.9 - Digital Photo
Emphasis
https://flic.kr/p/2ckEE5N
This cool shot of construction workers on scaffolding came out pretty great. The beam of light on them emphases the subject and draws attention from the cool lines and shapes from the scene.
Inside the Box
12x9.8 - Digital Photo
Emphasis
https://flic.kr/p/2cb4zgB
I like this photo as I utilized the simple shapes and colors of a whiffle ball in a box of cubes.
Down the Road
14.6x9.7 - Digital Photo
Repetition
https://flic.kr/p/2cb4zfV
This building at the time caught my eye with all of the lines i saw, especially from a low angle, I like the road imagery in the photo along with the vibey split tone colors.

21.6x14.4 - Digital Photo
Unity/ Variety, Figure Ground Relationship.
https://flic.kr/p/2dyHGpp
This is also one of my better photos created with a simple white backdrop, natural light, and kitchen utensils. The selective surfaces and dark shadows and create good figure ground relationship.
