i also just dont rlly like boxing myself in. i dont really think of myself as above it as much as i feel like im kind of incapable of consistency in my work. So its hard to imagine ever being able to confidently sell my work or even promote myself as an artist when i dont know if i could replicate any of the stuff ive drawn even here

long kinda blue ramble im thinking abt drawing its really only tangentially related to this blog LOL

the thing that really got me about art school that i now think about all the time is as we moved towards marketing/general career training in jr year a lot of my professors would stress that i needed to find a style that was Me and summed me up & wasnt generic like i always draw. they would tell me hey. Every person your age draws like you. Especially w the anime-adjacent style its just not gonna fly in a western market

Which is like... yeah i know my style isnt unique in the slightest its also just not polished at all or very appealing. 🧘‍♂️ Its not a lot of things that clients want and its also very very generic. Its why i tried to make most of my school portfolio animals/anthropomorphic animals bcs that was Slightly less common. But i also knew i wasnt going to change the way i draw people bcs i genuinely enjoy drawing fanart and i want to keep making it. Its what makes me happy!. But i do think about what my profs said all the time now its like.... damn!!

ik being aggressively insecure can be pretty annoying to see so i try to dampen it. rn making fanart on this blog is what makes me happiest and i want to keep trying to feed that happiness and hopefully i can feel like my work is worth something again

i was wondering how the fuck hatsuyo was typing her name on a typewriter when japanese has so many characters i didnt think it would work with any kind of automated writing machine pre-autocorrect. i looked up what a japanese typewriter looked like and was like "damn shes doing all this for 2 letters" only to find out in the original text shes just using. an english typewriter.

ooe spoilers + eyestrain

okay some designs ramblings. i tried to stay close to their silhouettes from the game though i really wanted to make an shorter and her hair a tiny bit fluffier. her dress is off-white but the off-shade is the fuckass green. i tried to go for the light summer-y vibe. as for her face, i don't really think her and ariake should be that similar, as she only gets compared to naomi but never shotarou. however, there is some degree of likeness. her skin is more tanned than riko's because i imagine that riko doesn't like appearing in public too much. the other point of difference in them is the shade of their hair – an gets a colder, blueish tint, while riko has red undertones.

riko's clothes are that modest because i'm entertaining the possibility that she has burns on other parts of her body. side note, i can't for the life of me remember what side of her face is scarred. i'm so sorry. i keep thinking of isshiki when i think about her burns. their circumstances are too similar it's insane.

riichi definitely inherited her resting bitch face.

i think it is possible that some of her belongings from the time she was an actress survived the war. simply for the mental image of an trying out her old dresses and yukatas and kimonos.

one detail that i hadn't noted on the design is that an probably has some nice jewerly, likely gifts from the men that liked her.
