After his last defeat against his rival, Metal Sonic's existence has been all but relegated to waiting for his next orders- indefinitely. The robot spends his days in a glass prison in Robotnik’s base, watching the world go by as The Doctor comes up with his esoteric plans for domination. Ignored. Forgotten. Useless. While observing the usual mundane tasks around his holding chamber, Metal Sonic one day spots a familiar face. A little hedgehog girl sneaks around the base, her bright pink quills preventing her from camouflaging into their dreary surroundings. She'd helped Metal Sonic once before. Could he convince her to save him from this prison?

Very excited to share my contribution to the 2025 Sonic Big Bang Fanzine. Chrysalis is a 4-part short series which is a prequel & companion piece to Unfamiliar.

One strange morning, Metal Sonic(?) awakes only to find something has gone wrong… His files, database access, and more are gone, replaced by fleeting memories of what was, most of which aren’t his. It doesn’t take long before he realizes he is a real hedgehog now, a being of flesh, blood and bone rather than the cold, unfeeling robot he used to be. Soon, though, he will come to realize that’s not the only thing that’s changed, with an Eggman plan having gone awry leading to his consciousness sharing a space with a certain hated rival. Though, begrudgingly, he may not be so hated anymore…
