Whether you work with animals or youâve got fur kids at home, you know the importance of how scrubs handle against pet hair We get asked all the time if thereâs Scrubs that repel pet hair. While we wish there was something that the hair wouldnât stick to at all, what we know is certain fabrics hold the hair far less than others. We have tested with cats & dogs, with different breeds, and with different âshedâ levels, so we could figure out what works so you can leave that lint roller at home! Cotton based fabrics have a tendency to hold that hair far worse than a poly/rayon/spandex blend fabric. The poly blends are much easier to just âbrushâ the hair off with a quick wipe of the hands as opposed to needing to use things like lint rollers to remove the hair. A Scrub guide for expectant mothers: How to make it through those last few months of workÂ
Weâve been at this now for almost 5 years, so we have witnessed first hand the progression of the scrub world & how there are FINALLY some good options out there for expectant mothers. We find most women go through 3 stages: I can make my current scrubs work, oh my scrubs most definitely wonât work but the maternity ones are massive, and finally the point where maternity scrubs (especially pants) are really the only way to go.Â
Stage #1:Tough it out with your regular scrubs as long as you can, but when the time comes, know weâve got you covered!
Stage #2: Iflex by Cherokee are by far the brand of scrubs our soon to be moms gravitate towards. Theyâre a mid rise pant, with full elastic waist (so no drawstrings to dig into you), but still have all the pockets you need to get the job done. The tops have a fairly long âcenter back lengthâ, so this will give you some extra coverage for a few more months & their knit stretch side panels leave you room to grow. Our Infinity long sleeve tees are another piece that many go for, I mean, they look just like your LuLu long sleeves, but much more affordable AND moisture wicking! Again, the added length on these is a bonus when paired under your scrubs (and can help your regular scrubs last longer) but many just stick with these long sleeves for the remainder of work before maternity leave.
Stage #3: Not every pregnant woman we encounter makes it to this stage, sometimes those Iflex and Infinity pieces make it through! But if they donât, Cherokee has come out with a fantastic maternity line that will grow with your needs, match whatever workplace requirements you may have, and can even get the pants in 3 different lengths (YAY! No more floods and no more hemming).Â
Once you have your uniforms covered, compression socks are another MUST HAVE for those long shifts; They reduce swelling by pushing fluids back up your legs, help prevent varicose veins, and will make your feet SO much happier! Even if youâre not pregnant (or planning to be), compression socks are a great idea for anyone who works on their feet or travels: Flying OR Driving long distances-YUP! Compression socks! Hair Dresser, Line Cook, Dishwasher, Cashier, Nurse, Dental Assistant, whatever your occupation, if youâre on your feet-COMPRESSION SOCKS! They even can come in fun patterns, regular calf size, and TWO wide calf options (we will go more into socks down the road).

Some great tips to maintain the longevity of your scrubs!
ATTENTION NEW MEDICS!

I present to you the seven things that will save your uniform.
In the last three years Iâve come in contact with a lot of fluids that I had to learn (the hard way) how to clean out of my uniforms.
Hydrogen peroxide will pull blood from almost any fabric. The sooner you pour it on the stain, the better.
Dawn dish soap will help to break down grease in your uniforms. Apply to the area, lightly scrub/work it into the fabric and wash in COLD water.
Oxy-Clean laundry spray will work on blood (I usually use it along with peroxide on blood), pen (not permanent), and mud. In my experience, itâs been safe on all materials.
Lysol laundry sanitizer goes in every other wash on my uniforms. Wonât fade colors. Wonât peel vinyl lettering on clothing and leaves a fresh clean scent.
As far as detergent and fabric softener, use something that agrees with your skin. The two pictured are relatively inexpensive. I dilute my fabric softener to preserve the vinyl lettering on my shirts.
AND ALWAYS WASH ANYTHING WITH STAINS IN COLD WATER. DO NOT TUMBLE DRY YOUR STAINED CLOTHING. IT WILL SET THE STAINS AND YOUâLL BE STUCK WITH BOBâS BLOOD ON YOUR SHIRT FOREVER.

Where does your scrub style fit in?

Why is it that although scrubs are basically the same, somehow people seem to wear them so differently? Iâd like to say Iâve always worn scrubs that fit, but there have definitely been times when mine were several sizes too big, and barely held up enough to maintain decency. And now that itâs summer, rolling up the sleeves seems to be the fashion in my hospital. Wish I had the arms to carry that off XD
