The 2021 Nina Lore Is Batshit Insane (Lovingly)

Yeah, so um after finally finding the Nina interview, I had to dig into this cause omg.

So the story starts off normal, right? A detective is currently investigating the recent murder of the Hopkins family, with Nina being the sole survivor and taking on more of a Jane role in the rewrite.

But then not even a few seconds later, we're slapped in the face with the reveal that Jeff is considered a fictional character in this universe. And that Nina had liked his story, and that the only reason he'd targeted the Hopkins family is because he had heard Nina talking about him.

That's a terrifying concept. Imagine the weight of guilt on your shoulders that your family died horrifically just because you read a story.

Within the lore of the remake, it's very heavily implied that Jeff is not a human, but an entity of sorts. Having the ability to manipulate the environment around him.

The implication is that the events of Jeff The Killer did happen. But any record of report of the event, including Jeff himself, has been wiped from existence. All besides the story, making people believe that he is a fictional character.

We learn that after escaping the orphanage she'd been placed in, the same has happened to Nina. In order to hunt down Jeff, she had to become nothing but a ghost as well. Wiping her existence completely, any file the detective had on her gone.

The climax of the story reveals that Nina has supernatural abilities as well, using them to kill the detective, as he's the only one left aware of her existence.

So Nina is also apparently an entity now???

Okay, as many problems as I have with the remake, I gotta admit that Nina having supernatural powers kinda sounds cool.

So yeah, um... the 2021 Nina story was crazy lol.

Attraction/Obsession ≠ Love

Hi mini (or not so mini) little Nina rant because I’ve been thinking about this a lot.

So, I think most of us have seen this post by Alegotic-twelve that Jeff and Nina’s relationship was never supposed to be romantic, and Nina’s feelings towards him were never romantic at all.

Well, I’ve seen some arguments that Nina was/is attracted to Jeff, and Ale may have just said that now because she’s still ashamed/embarrassed about what happened when Nina’s original story had come out. And while those points are valid, I’d like to politely argue against them.

I’ve also thought about this a lot because I think about Nina a lot and really wanted to talk about this lol.

So, the main two parts of the story where people want to make this argument are these two points. Where Nina is said to have an attraction to Jeff and when she blushes after reading the second note he left (which I’d like to remind everyone that she did not know they were from him yet at that point).

Attraction

One of the main arguments that Nina had a crush on Jeff is that the story states she feels an attraction to him.

Attraction doesn’t automatically mean a crush or romantic attraction. The definition of attraction is “the action or power of evoking interest, pleasure, or liking for someone or something.”

I argue that Nina had an emotional attraction to Jeff. Feeling connected to him because she could relate to him and had a desire to be more like him personality/character wise.

It’s even stated by Nina herself that her attraction is more of an admiration.

Yes, she had the plushies, but so does everyone else who has a favourite character? Just because someone or something is your favourite character doesn’t automatically mean that you’re attracted to them in a romantic way.

Blushing

Blushing does not automatically equal romantic desires/attraction either. It can mean shame, embarrassment, self-consciousness, shyness, fear, or anger.

Nina is stated (or more so she thinks she is) to be confident in herself, liking the way that she is.

If this story is written under the impression that Nina is obsessed with a story that was based off a real life serial killer (arguably confirmed when Jeff himself shows up), she probably doesn’t have that many friends. Understandably so. I don’t think most people would want to be friends with a girl that admires a murderer of all people.

So, Nina could be blushing out of self-consciousness, because she’s not used to people wanting/stating that they want to be her friend.

So What About The Obsession?

Once again… obsession does not automatically mean love or romantic attraction.

Also… never once in the story is Nina stated to have an obsession. The only words used to describe her feelings for Jeff are attraction and admiration.

However, if obsession were to play a part: I’d argue it would be more of a matter of wanting to be like/be better/even be Jeff. Not a wanting to be with him or for him to love her.

And the reason I say that is because of the scene that describes Nina murdering her victim in the introduction of the story.

In both the original story and the interview with Ale, Nina is stated to have chopped/torn a man into pieces, removing several of his organs and hiding them around the house in a gorey version of an scavenger hunt. Behaviour we have never seen Jeff (at least at the time) do. If that doesn’t scream “I’m the better serial killer,” I don’t know what does.
