Yuno Kashiki Trial 3 Voice Drama Translation - The melting temperature

hi as promised in uhh a few posts ago i decided to do a shitty tl of yunos t3 vd

I also made a google doc version for anyone who would rather read it there instead

i am in no way a professional translator and just did this for fun so it would be appreciated if you could read other translations as well (mostly because i mostly interpret rather than translate, which means i could be wrong) - not that I don't understand japanese, but I don't think I'm good enough to convey the nuances between the characters.

Es: Yuno...

Yuno: Warden-san..

Es: For the 3rd trial, you're first in row, huh.

Yuno: ..Yeah, that's right.

It feels strange, huh? Haruka's not here.

Es: ...

Yuno: Haruka...I thought I decided to myself that I would look after Haruka, but somehow, I thought that he wasn't something I could touch, because he was beautiful, and I'm dirty, you see. ('beautiful' here meaning pure, innocence)

Es: *sighs* It was my fault.. Even though I knew...I have known that it would be as Muu said.. even though I knew it would come to this.

Yuno: Is that so..? That might be the case. (she says this in a doubtful tone)

Since if you say that, it might make things a bit easier for you.

Es: ..right...

Yuno: I really have to stop bullying you, right? (said in a playful tone)

Since this is the last time we'll see each other. (Only 'Since this is the last time' was omitted but it is to be understood with the context that this is the last trial)

Es: You sure have a knack for hitting right where it's sore.

Yuno: Of course, I don't think that choosing death is a good choice, but when he died, I was a little envious.

It made me realize how much of my life had been wasted- because I didn't really have anything important to cherish.

...It made me think "As I thought, Haruka is so beautiful."

Es: Beautiful? Haruka was..?

Yuno: Yup. Shidou and Mahiru too.

They may be murderers but.. they were incredibly beautiful.

Es: ..I don't really get it.

I haven't thought of it that way yet.

Yuno: Warden-san, are you sad?

Es: Yeah. You're right.

I'm sad that they died.

...I wondered what should I have done-

Es: ...

Yuno: Isn't it okay to be sad? Really. Since you're the warden who has always stayed with us, you at least have the right to be sad.

Es: ...Isn't this very kind of you, huh?

Yuno: ...It's normal.

Es: It's a bit unexpected. I thought that no matter the situation, you would stay detached from your surroundings.

Yuno: Honestly, I used to think so too.

Es: What made you like this..? Is it the result of being continuously forgiven?

Yuno: Eh? Nope, I could careless about that.

Es: ...Truly, you're the type to not give fucks about the warden.

Yuno: Because I don't really want to become the kind of person to give a fuck about the warden.

Es: You're not wrong.

Yuno: Right?

Es: Was it Mahiru...The one who changed you? You've changed because you've been looking after Mahiru all this time, haven't you?

Yuno: That might have been the case. But whether I've changed or not, I don't know.

It could just be that I couldn't catch up to the pace of things. (someone enlighten me on what could "はっしゃがきになれないだけかもん" mean because i bullshitted my way through this line)

I was by Mahiru's side when she died.

Es: I see... Thank you.

Yuno: It's really nothing. After Shidou died, I couldn't do anything.

I could only watch as she weakened day by day.

Es: ...

Yuno: But... we did talk a lot. Up until the end, Mahiru really loved talking.

Mahiru is really maiden-like. Dreaming about things like romance, wanting to become her beloved's bride, and raising a child with them.

Es: ..I see, that's very Mahiru-like of her.

Yuno: You don't really see people like her much these days, do you?

Honestly, it's so laughable, you know? The dream of such a good-natured person was to have a baby, and she came to talk about it with a dirty woman like me.

Es: Yuno...

Yuno: It's interesting, isn't it? What I killed was something Mahiru wished for from the bottom of her heart.

Makes me feel like "So what's the point if I'm forgiven?".

Es: ...

I'm going to recite exactly the lines I was told.

Yuno: Eh?

Es: "Isn't it okay to be sad? Isn't it okay to not smile?"

Yuno: What are you saying..?

Es: It's okay to not smile. It's okay to not pretend that you're cold.

...Even you have the right to be sad, don't you?

Yuno: None.

Es: ...Why?

Yuno: ...I don't have that right.

Es: You were always with her, right? You always talked together, right? Even if she was a murderer... she was a close friend, right?

Yuno: Friend..?

Es: I'll say it one more time...sigh..

You at least have the right to be sad, don't you?

Yuno: A close friend... was she? Even though we didn't know where each other came from. (assuming that she was talking about their origins/homeland? Originally I see it as them not really knowing eachother outside of Milgram)

Es: Yeah. I think so.

Yuno: ...Haa...haa...

I can't do it... I can't..

Es: There's no need to stress too much about it. If you're sad about something, you just need to say that.

Yuno: Haa.. I can't say that I'm sad.

I can't say that I'm sad, can I?

Why?

Because even though I killed a baby, when I killed it I didn't think anything of it.

And then when it's Haruka's turn- Shidou's turn- Mahiru's turn-

I can't just say that I'm sad, right?

Es: Yuno..

Yuno: I don't have the right to say that I'm sad, do I?

Haa... I knew it all, from the start. Ever since I was young, I've always known what I have to do to please the other party.

It's boring. Everything is utterly boring!

Es: Let me hear it, about your story.

Yuno: I did what I could (to please others), I knew that there was another life within me. I just... thought it was disgusting. "From here on, what kind of hard life would I live-" I already knew.

It became bothersome.

Es: So that's why.. you killed it.

Yuno: Yeah. That's right... No, I don't know.. Was it really like that?

Thinking about it made me dizzy, and then I fell down the stairs.

Es: ...Fell?

Yuno: Yup. I fell.

So for a while, I thought that this (MILGRAM) was the afterlife.

"Ah, so I died with the baby, huh?", like that.

Es: That's wrong, isn't it? (referring to MILGRAM being afterlife, but Es probably dont know either lmao)

Yuno: ...I remembered. My memories up until I got here.

I fell from the stairs, lost the life inside of me, and got hospitalized.

But a bit after getting hospitalized, I went back to school. ("went back to school" refers to going back to studying, resuming her daily life)

..My last memory was when I was discharged. I didn't think anything of it, did I? Even after losing the baby inside me.

Es: ..That's...how it was huh?

Yuno: All I thought was just "Hopefully the wounds will heal, as if nothing ever happened, and everything will return to everyday-life."

What really is "life", I wonder?

I felt like it was weird... the me who couldn't feel anything.

Es: ...I can't say that I can really understand your feelings.. But- Even so- That doesn't mean you don't have the right to be sad when someone dies-

Yuno: Something like getting sad when others die- Only realizing the weight of people's lives now? Is that something you can forgive?

All that I could do for her is only to stay awake- by her side, that's all.

Es: ...It's precisely because of that that you're hurt. You just... didn't look at your own wound.

Doing that would just make the pain worse. (i heard "痛みを増させてだけだと思う" for this phrase which could be wrong)

Yuno: I really don't know what you're on about. You're just a kid right?

Es: I don't know at all.. Compared to you, I'm still just a kid.. But.. I've seen inside the depths of your heart, I've always listened to your songs...

From my perspective, you are not a cold person at all.

Yuno: I see.

Es: Yeah, that's it.

Yuno: Warden-san, what are you going to do?

Es: How do you mean?

Yuno: Are you going to keep going on? MILGRAM, I mean.

This place is already on the verge of falling apart, isn't it?

Is there a reason for you to keep being the warden?

Es: ...Indeed, I still don't know.

In the meantime of meeting the other prisoners, I'll think about it.

Yuno: ..Is that so. That's fine too I guess.

Es: ...Hey, since this is the last time, may I hear you out?

Yuno: Hm?

Es: What should I have done for you to be satisfied?

Yuno: What do you mean by that?

Es: Whether you were forgiven or unforgiven, you would've remained unsatisfied, right?

Yuno: Hm.. I think so too. This current MILGRAM, I can't stand it... I said it before didn't I? Human judgment is inherently imperfect.

Es: ..I remember very well.

Yuno: I roughly know how you have judged other inmates but... when it comes to me... It's just a matter of like-dislike. Different positions lead to different opinions- that’s just how it is. (i interpreted "立場は違えば、思うことなんて違うだもん" as "when you're in different shoes, you think differently" whereas she says that we are wrong for trying to judge her off our flawed standards influenced by different upbringings)

Es: That's true... No matter which prisoner it was, there's no such thing as a perfect answer... I really do get it. (being unable to give out a satisfactory answer to everyone)

Yuno: What I really wanted...? (she trails off here) I get the gist of what you're saying. Maybe I wanted to be scolded? And what else... I guess I might've been lonely? For me, it feels wrong and right at the same time.

Es: What do you mean?

Yuno: "This isn't that off..." or "It would be strange not to think like this..."

Don't force on how I should feel for myself. There isn't just one reason, there might be no reason at all.. So please, all I ask of you is not to take me so lightly.

Es: ...It's very you to say that.

Yuno: ..I just think that's how humans are.

Es: I see, I'll take note of that.

[bell rings]

Es: It's already time..?

Yuno: Really..?

Then this is farewell, isn't it?

Es: ...sighs..

Yuno: Hey, warden-san.

Es: What is it?

Yuno: Come here for a bit.

[Es takes approximately 6-7 steps towards Yuno]

Yuno: Here.

Es: ...! Yuno...

Yuno: A hug...pft..*giggles* Usually, I would charge it for around 2500¥... I'll give it for free. (apologies in advance if this is a mistranslation, again, i bullshitted my way through this as an interpreter)

Es: ...How dirty of you. (said playfully and sarcastically)

Yuno: *snickers* Just kidding of course. I just thought if it was Mahiru, she would've sent you off like this too... she asked me to - There, hug's over!

How do I put it.. well... try your best!

Es: ..Yeah.

Yuno: I've said lots to you, even now I still truly think that MILGRAM's full of bullshit.

Es: *snickers* You're still at it?

Yuno: If I hadn't come here, I might've never thought about self-reflection at all. Surely the things I did dissipated into everyday-life. Surely I would have forgotten that there was once another life within me.

Es: Yuno...

Yuno: Thank you for thinking about me... I- no.. I mean the other one, even though they died.. Thank you for caring about us. ("もうひとり" i have no idea if this is talking about the aborted baby or Mahiru, both works well so i decided to not clarify it in the translation)

Es: ..Me too, I was happy to get to know you. I won't forget.. you and the other. (Es stop jumping on the bandwagon who tf is もうひとり)

Yuno: Well… at least that was good. Thank you once again, warden-san. Bye bye. It'd be nice if we could meet again, right?

Es: Yeah. Me too. Thank you...

Prisoner number two... ah no.

Yuno: Hm?

Es: This isn't needed anymore.

Yuno: You're throwing away your hat?

Es: Yeah, from here on, I'm no longer the warden. Since it's the end, I think it would be nice to be just me.

Yuno: ...Isn't that great, Es?

Es: Kashiki Yuno, sing your sins.
