     “ happy birthday. “ it starts out as a soft, low sound; naked body turning under sheets to better face the woman she shares the bed with. already the cabin was hot from the midday sun, the night before having been more of a late morning. her body still hums from all the spots ryan’s hands had caressed. despite the smile on her face, her gaze is far-away, as if looking for something in ryan’s sleep-heavy eyes. lip quirks as she reaches out to stroke cheek, the touch is reverent & tender, not unlike it had been the night prior.       then she leans in to kiss her, a breathless sound forming between them as the words slip past her guard, past the walls she’ built & ryan had slowly chipped away at. a breathless “ i love you. “ before lips capture lips to seal the words between them.

     renora is known, from time to time, to step outside of her own empire to sniff out another; more of curiosity than ill-will. & the mafioso had heard a tale or two about samantha, the big bad of los angeles. she’s content to enjoy her meal uninterrupted, watch the blonde from afar, assess & then go about her business but shortly after her arrival, the woman herself has taken a seat at renora’s table. red eyes lift, focus on the other with an unreadable expression & blinks owlishly. then, lips curl into a deceptively kind smile. “ woof, woof -- someone is territorial. is that any way to treat your neighbor? “ after all, renora was just over that nevada / california border.      “ on the contrary, i wasn’t planning anything. “ a flicker of something passes in her gaze, then diappears. “ you’re samantha -- & judging by your introduction, it seems you might know who i am. in case you don’t, “ her smile fades only slightly, “ renora alvarez. pleasure to put a face to the name. your reputation precedes you. “

Her eyes were cold; they always were. She had no warmth sheltered within her icey bones. She felt nothing, nothing at all. The only time she felt joy was when she was hurting someone else but that was a hollow kind of happiness. There weren’t many things the ice queen felt but THREATENED was certainly one of them. This was the first time she had ever left her table to join another. People usually came to her but Samantha wanted to nip whatever this possibly was in the butt.

She sat herself down at Renora’s table without an invitation, there were three men at her back standing guard. Max, Nikoli and Lex             her three soldiers.
