@srabaskerville I think Jongwoo's use of the jagi really depends on how their relationship develops. He might never say it. He might test it out on his tongue and decide if he likes it or not based on Moonjo's reaction; if he likes the reaction, he might use it again.
It's hard to imagine him adopting it into his daily speech like Moonjo (the jagi is glued to his tongue like sugar!), but he might use it on special occasions, if there's a feeling he finds easier to express making use of the word, or if he's aiming to cause a specific effect on Moonjo.
If he was using it for the first time in their lives (or if it was a rare occurance), that would certainly catch Moonjo's attention and distract him long enough for Jongwoo to do or say something else, for example.
I like to think he understands Moonjo enough to know not to use jagi (derogatory), though. This one would backfire on him.
Just imagine. He wants to mock Moonjo? Hurt his feelings? Humiliate him? That's not the right approach to do that. Not only Moonjo finds Jongwoo's meanness exciting (when turned at him directly), but he'd also enjoy being called jagi no matter the sentiment behind it, as a result of putting the idea of being of great significance to Jongwoo above being liked by him.
Being Jongwoo's jagi (a part of him), acknowledged by Jongwoo himself, is more important than how Jongwoo feels about it.
Now, about being able to bear another person looking and touching the insides of his mouth—I suspect Jongwoo would find out very soon after the final showdown, since he still has those stitches Moonjo so carefully put there. They might have opened during the fight(s) or still be intact, but should be changed or removed before causing additional scarring.
I don't know if, while he was staying at the hospital, any doctor/nurse could have taken care of that or if an actual dentist would be summoned to take a look. They might not even know of it if he doesn't mention/complain about it. Jongwoo might decide to avoid the experience entirely and keep the stitches for as long as he can. Or, if the uncomfortable reminder bothers him too much, he might request for them to be removed as soon as possible instead.
But doing it at the hospital he's recovering at (considered a safe space), surrounded by other people (even if not in the same room), it's not the same as making an appointment with a clinic and going there by himself. It's less likely that a negative response would be triggered at the hospital.
Later, at a dentist's clinic, I guess it could happen, if he felt unsafe...? Countless things there could be a trigger, had he developed a trauma. The chair, a tool, a smell, the dentist itself. If he could predict his own discomfort beforehand, it'd be a good idea to choose a dentist that is nothing like Moonjo (a short female dentist in her 20s, for example), or to bring someone he trusts with him. A solution would have to be found, for the instances when visiting a dentist were unavoidable.
However, even when we can predict our distress and take measures to prevent the most unpleasant outcomes, they might still happen. Jongwoo might still respond to triggers with a panic attack or thrashing about.
I don't think it would be weird if he didn't feel unsafe, though. All dentists are unsettling, but no one is quite as unsettling as Moonjo. As long as there was nothing restraining his hands and he could still be on guard to defend himself if necessary, he might be able to endure it till the end without (causing) trouble.
On the other hand, he might also get lost in memory lane if it's a long procedure. I believe that could be more treacherous than being in the presence of a normal dentist, since it's more unpredictable, and could take him literally anywhere.
It's important to note here that Jongwoo had a lot more contact with stalker/cannibal/murderer/creepy neighbour Moonjo than he had with Dr. Seo, the dentist. He was only at his chair once, and Moonjo wasn't hurting him at the time (he was only being his usual creepy self—his words were scarier than his actions). The next time there were teeth involved between them, was when Moonjo gave him the bracelet, and we all saw how Jongwoo eventually got attached to it.
I think it's more likely that Jeonghwa, Jieun or Mr. Ahn would develop a dentist-related trauma than Jongwoo (in his case, the other sides of Moonjo would have left more profound scars in his psyche; the dentist thing could still affect him, but probably not as much as the rest).
...
Everything I said so far was considering a scenario in which Moonjo is dead, of course.
If he was alive... Well. What was the first question again? “Would Jongwoo be able to ever see another dentist?” Uh. Yes, maybe... If Moonjo didn't get to them first lol
It's not an AU but Jongwoo calls Moonjo hyung?
