Reading about what US military officers do as a job is so fucking funny because it means Stanley is...a middle manager. He has to approve time off and file reports and handle disciplinary actions. Like every other manager. Just with people who shoot people for a living and live and eat together. He probably has an office.

And yes, he's grumpy and asocial, but he's actually not allowed to really socialize with service members under his command anyway.

And then Xeno sets him up as commander-in-chief and lets Stan handle all of the military shit because quite frankly anything is a better use of his time than micromanaging Stanley, who does not need to be micromanaged. Or managed at all, really.
