One of the best summaries we've seen about strength training for runners. It's been said hundreds of times but we'll say it again, how essential strength training is to your success. It doesn't take a big investment of time and while the video focuses on exercises done in a gym, it's amazingly easy and not that expensive to outfit a home gym in your basement, garage, etc. And if you feel like all your fitness time is needed for running and there's no room for strength...cut your run short by a mile or two and make the time. It's that important.

Think you’re a “shoe-in” for that new PR?
Maybe, maybe not. But we can tell you this much. It’s not the fancy carbon plated shoe, but the runner wearing the shoe, and the body of work they have put forward, that matter most.
Shoes don’t make you stronger and faster. Smart training does that. You can’t “Vaporfly” your way to to a new PR, BQ or any other type of breakout performance if you haven’t put in the work necessary to set yourself up for success
If you have done the work to be ready for the big day, and you’re looking for that little extra edge that just might put you over the top, then sure, go ahead and buy the shoes. Think of them as a reward for the hard work you have done, for putting yourself in a position to succeed. In this case, they might make the difference.
Just don’t think of them as a silver bullet.

Kudos to our client Alexis Espinoza on nailing today’s #woodlandshalfmarathon! This is a tuneup for the big target later this year, the #buffalomarathon. So our plan today was to start conservatively and grow into the race, hopefully running a #negativesplit and he did it! 6:42 pace for the first 10k, 6:37 pace by 20k, and he held that to the finish. Now the training benchmarks all move down to reflect increasing fitness. There is lots of work to be done but we are clearly moving towards that #sub3marathon goal! This is how we do it with patient building and tailored training. Wanna learn more? Go to Breakoutrunning.com!

It's a good idea to take a rest day on the day of your shot. But if you are otherwise healthy you should be ready to get back out there the next day. All that said, listen to your body and take more rest if you need it. See more in the article.

If you haven't been by our site in a while, pay is a visit. We've simplified the design. We still are evaluating whether an online store really works for our business, but you can still engage us through the contact form. If you need a coach, were here for you!

This is something we are advocating as well. Initially we emphasized it in only our programs for masters runners but it's becoming clear the benefits of occasionally just running for time, and not obsessing over what the watch says, can benefit even young, fast runners.
