THIS. This is the part of Djenks Xmas Eve story that made my heart grow three sizes. Seeing Ed’s name in association with the words “satisfaction,” “content,” “meditation,” “beauty.” Ed, too, is a lover of beauty, a lover of fine things, and he’s in a space where he feels safe to express that. He’s relaxed enough to take pleasure in small delights and accomplishments. This is akin to folding socks, but this time, it’s truly on his own terms. He’s not resigned or making the best of it. He doesn’t simply have the relief of having (been made to) lay his burden down. He is actively doing what he has consciously decided he wants. He is living the life he has chosen, and he’s happy.
