“There’s only a little left, you should grab the other bottle too.” She said without hesitation. Wine was always required for a night in like this, lots of it.. “I could eat anything, but we have junk food in the second cupboard on the right. Just don’t tell Maisie it’s there, she’d eat everything if I let her.” She hated watching people eat unhealthily, but she wasn’t about to tell Sam that they couldn’t, they never seemed like the type to worry about things like that.
Night In | Melody x Open
“The answer to snacks is always yes,” Sam smiled, getting up, “Want me to grab some from the kitchen? What have we got?” They took another long drink from their wine. “Also maybe we should just bring the rest of the bottle in here. Something tells me we’re going to be drinking all of it.”

Melody just liked watching guys flex... She’d never been interested in girls, it just wasn’t for her. Someone at the old estate used to joke that she was straighter than a steel pole but she never took much notice of it. “I might.” She smiled at her sister, leaning forward to put down her glass after another sip of wine. “I’m definitely up for it, do you want snacks first, though? We might get hungry and it’s never okay to pause Clueless.”
Night In | Melody x Open
“Walking Dead’s good,” Sam agreed, “But I don’t watch it for rugged boys for obvious reasons,” they chuckled. They liked gritty shows like that, though. As long as they were fictional and obscure enough to be so far from reality that it was entertaining. “You’d like In The Flesh, then,” they replied, “It’s another zombie show without really being a zombie show? Hard to explain, you should look into it.”
They nodded, “Me neither. You game?”

“Tell me about it.” Melody tilted her head round as she watch Sam going through the options on the screen. “But I have to admit, I like the walking dead. I have to watch it when Maisie’s asleep.” A little smile appeared on her lips, turning to her younger sibling. “And there are some very attractive people on that show.” She wasn’t going to lie, there had always been something about the rough, tough guys that attracted her, she’d just always gravitated toward the quiet and gentle type.
“Oh wow, I haven’t seen that in years.”
Night In | Melody x Open
Sam nodded, flipping through titles. “Alright, comedy it is. I feel like they don’t make enough of them these days. Everything’s so dramatic, the world is always ending, or some hetero engagement is always in danger of falling apart.” They rolled their eyes. “What about Clueless?”

“I do but not tonight.” She shook her head, shifting in her seat and pulling both her legs underneath her, trying to get comfortable. “They require more attention that you or I are able to give right now.” The older brunette raised her glass slightly, suggesting that alcohol made her unable to interpret movies. It was completely untrue, but she just didn’t feel like watching women in big dresses and men stroll around as if they owned everything in the world.
Night In | Melody x Open
Sam smiled, picking up the remote and flipping through titles. They were pretty terrible at making decisions, but they were sure the ever-opinionated Melody would be of help in their movie selections. “Well, it depends on what kind of movie we’re feeling. Nothing depressing, we could do a nice comedy, or like a period drama? Do I remember you telling me you like those or am I totally making that up?”

“Perfect!” Melody smiled again, picking her glass up against from the table and raising it too. “Berry sisters night in.” Since Sam had changed their name, she couldn’t stop thinking about them like that. Sure, they’d double barrelled it but it meant a lot that they’d taken on at least a small part of her. “What movie are we watching, anyway? I’ve got netflix, so you can pick pretty much anything.”
Night In | Melody x Open
Sam let a small smile creep across their lips, raising their wine glass. “Amen to that, sis.” They took a long drink, needed to at least get buzzed tonight. They hadn’t gotten proper drunk since the adoption of their son, and they kind of missed the feeling.

Mel’s jaw locked for a moment of silence. She wasn’t happy with it, but there was no way to force Leila to tell her anything. “Alright.” She finally agreed, pulling her arms up to cross her arms unhappily. “Anything that might be of concern, you tell me.” She wasn’t kidding, either. She needed to know what was going on. It’s not like she wanted to hear any gossip, but even the smallest hint of something being wrong and she needed to know.
“ Well, I was thinking I just talk to you after every lesson? But I have to tell you that I’ll might not be able to tell you everything. I’ll tell you everything that might endanger her, but when I’m supposed to be her teacher, she needs to trust me, and she won’t if I tell you everything she might tell me. I won’t keep anything from you that might put her in any kind of danger, I promise you that. But if she tells me something harmless but personal I’ll keep it to myself, ok?” she knew Mel wouldn’t like that part, but it was the only way this would work.

She gave her sister a smile, tilting her head down to catch a glance of their face. “It’s fine, we can still watch a movie and get drunk and eat too much food if you want to. I know I do.” Mel was always up for drinking wine, she had turned into a regular house mother who drank every night and acted as if it wasn’t considered a problem.
Night In | Melody x Open
Sam avoided Melody’s gaze. “I’m sorry…it’s dumb. This was supposed to be just a nice night in for us and then I went and got emotional. Stupid me.” They let out a humorless chuckle. In truth, Sam was still shocked every day that they had lived to adulthood. They had never expected to. “I know. I just…need to get better at asking for help.”

The woman nodded slightly, taking in a deep breath and exhaling out slowly. “Okay, that sounds fine. You can just text me if anything goes wrong or you need me, you’ll text right? Or call?” She didn’t know why this made her so nervous, the thought of having a magic bearing daughter when she’d grown up around it, it felt wrong somehow.
“ She’s more likely to set things on fire if I don’t teach her how to use it properly. The most important thing about Magic is to being able to control everything you do. Not knowing things, not controlling things usually leads to tragedies. But I’ll make sure to talk everything through with you before we start something new. I’ll check first what she has already figured out on her own.”

Melody blinked at the response, a small frown forming on her forehead. “I didn’t mean.. It doesn’t matter if you moisturise, Sam.” She never realised how seriously people took the things she said until then. Mel put her glass down and took Sam’s hand in hers, trying to be sisterly, though she wasn’t sure it was working. “You know I can teach you anything you want to know right? Anything, I’ll learn it too if I have to.”
Night In | Melody x Open
Sam sighed. They could feel their sister judging their skin and lack of adulthood. They took a long drink of their wine before turning to her with a sigh. “I’m sorry, okay? I never had anyone to teach me…anything, really. I was in an orphanage for most of my life, and they didn’t give two shits to tell us to wash our face or anything we needed to know to be real grownups someday. So I’m bad at…being a grownup.”

“Yes well...” She didn’t agree. Sam had patchy skin, some was dry, some was oily. It was all over the place, they really needed some kind of professional help. She wondered is Ermaynia had dermatologists like back home... “Some of us just put more thought into their appearance. It’s the face you show the world, it has to be ready for battle. So to speak.”
Night In | Melody x Open
Sam groaned, taking a long sip from the wine glass. They couldn’t fathom some of the things Melody insisted were an important part of self-care. “I don’t think I have ever moisturized my face in my entire life, and I’m fine.” They wondered if they would ever get like Melody, a real grown up who had a skincare routine. They somehow doubted it.

Melody wasn’t comfortable with a teenager taking charge of her own teenager, but what other choice did she had? It took her a moment but she slowly nodded her head in agreement, pulling a strand of hair back behind her ear. “Alright but- Nothing I haven’t already approved, alright? I don’t need her setting things on fire or bouncing off the walls with magic.” Honestly she had no idea how any of it worked.
“ If only you knew a Witch.” Leila said with a smirk. “ You know I went through similar things Maisie is going through. I mean magic wise. It’s excited and scary when it starts.” she has offered her help before and Mel had rejected it. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t try to help her again. Especially when she brought it up herself.

The brunette just smirked, sliding both glasses onto the table as she sat back into her seat, drabbing a towel over her face lightly and as she’d told her sister to do. “Did you rub your face to dry it?” Her brows both perked up, eyes watching the younger brunette. Rubbing your face was never a good idea. “Because that’s going to make it worse. Or maybe I’m just used to using face masks, and I moisturise.”
Night In | Melody x Open
Sam chuckled, watching Melody go off to the kitchen. For two people who really couldn’t be more different if they tried, they got along pretty well. It wasn’t always perfect, and they did disagree on a lot. But when it mattered, Sam knew their sister would have their back. When Mel came back, they frowned. “Your face doesn’t look as irritated as mine felt when I took my mask off, what gives?”

Melody too looked down at sam’s clothing, opposed to her designer jeans, light pink blouse and kitten heels... Sam was comfortable. Why could Mel never just be comfortable? “Very funny, Sam, I’ll be back in a minute.”
She took the glass, turning on her heel to make it over to the kitchen to get them both some top ups and to get the green gunk off of her face.
Night In | Melody x Open
“I’m presentable!” Sam said, in a mock-offended tone, handing forward their glass. “Just a different kind of presentable than you are.” They shook their head, looking down at their own outfit, a flannel shirt, jeans, and their nice sneakers. They were certainly different than their sister. Sometimes it felt like the Princess and the Pauper, but it wasn’t something that bothered Sam.

Melody’s brows pulled together. “I suppose that could have happened. I never knew who my father was.” If it was true that it could jump a generation, it was very possible but it didn’t really matter anymore. What good would this information do? “Besides, it’s not important. She’s a witch, and I have no idea how to help her.”
“ No, I don’t need to, but I can, if you need someone to talk. And, it’s still possible the Witch side came from you… Darwin and stuff, even prominent genes don’t always show and will jump a generation. Not that this happens a lot.” she wasn’t a scientist, but it was something that could have happened right?

She’d finished her glass before Sam had finished their sentence and stood, rearranging her blouse for a moment. “I’m not prim, I’m... presentable.” Mel defended, holding out her hand to her younger sibling. “Would you like some more? I need to wash my face.”
Night In | Melody x Open
Sam rolled their eyes and nudged Melody playfully. “Har, har, har. You’re so funny. Not everyone is as girly, prim, and proper as you are.” Sam had never liked all of that pomp and glamour, which would explain their gender identity. Melody was her opposite in this way, but they balanced each other out.
