CHILDHOOD: Most of these memories aren’t going to be happy. Kaz’s childhood is rough, and it’s hard to exactly pinpoint an exactly happy moment unless it’s with his elder brother, Jordie, or when their father was still alive. If you’d like to do something a bit lighthearted with his childhood in mind, then be sure to let me know! 

ADOLESCENCE: Memories taken from the events of Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom - there will be spoilers related to the Crows duology with these threads. There will be a bit of violence described here.

Summer days drift along, the cozy air of offshore breezes drifting nothing but pleasant scents and desires for it to never end. Were it only so easy as that, for happier days long since gone to have never ended. “Hm. If only,” someone muses softly, one hand pressed to her cheek as a foot twirls beneath her desk. Shoulders ease with a release of a sigh from Pleiades’ lips, observing the ongoing lives which many have fastened themselves into. Whether of those older residents of a years time or fresher faces, she could only imagine the trials which they faced to be more hardship than what payoff they might be getting---regardless if it be the stars themselves or the very ones under their watchful gaze.

“You know, for all we’ve asked of them, it simply won’t do to only give back what they’re supposed to work for regardless. After all, deities should be gracious when their subjects have far exceeded their expectations. Or something along those lines.”

A wave of her hand at her musings with the lean back in her chair. Shifting a hand to adjust her glasses, she tucks blonde tresses behind her ear in thought of it all. Perhaps, with the knowledge they have now, it would not be so hard pressed to do even a little as that. Fingers are quick to align themselves to her keyboard, tapping away for moments on end as if to calculate the appropriate approach on the matter, let alone to inform the others of her brief decision, and before long the very solution which would usher in a time of rest for the weary souls who have done more than any should ask of them.

Time flows ever on upon the island, unchanging as ever... until a lavender aura, hardly seen by the untrained eye, begins to drift upon the citizens. Aromas of familiarity enticing their senses, the sound of a voice calling their name in the distance which might pull their focus from a task at hand, slowly sapping their strength with each passing second. Tenderly, like a long forgotten lullaby meant to soothe one into a gentle slumber before all goes white...

“Oh, but do rest well, my little subjects... there’s no denying you really have deserved it.”

So what’s happening?

Simply put, all of your muses have drifted to sleep after the more lavender tinted aura has overtaken the wards and even the branches. Whether they were hanging out somewhere outdoors or even chilling in their home, they would have felt their strength slowly fade and a heavy tiredness overwhelm them before falling asleep. Don’t worry, though! Many of the NPCs seem to have caught any in more unfortunate circumstances (standing up when this all happens) so that they wouldn’t have been harmed when sleep overtook them.

How does this work?

Essentially, your muses will experience dreams while in this sleeping state. Or, more specifically, memories that are posed as dreams, drawn from the characters themselves. Your memories can be either big or small, little ones which hardly have any effect other than the smallest blip of happiness or those that have made an astounding impact on you as a whole. Though, most notably, they’re intended to be good memories! Ones that are heartfelt or were of happier moments. Anything that fits in these moments, whether it was time spent on a battlefield or just leisurely laying in a tree eating a fruit, are all capable of manifesting in these dreams.

Likewise, while you sleep, your character’s body will be given all the benefits of getting a good nights rest by tenfold, rejuvenating itself over time the more dreams they experience. If you didn’t feel well rested before, you definitely will feel high energy at the end of it all, at least for a short while before it gets all used up over the next few weeks.

Basically this is the Stars way of saying you all deserve a good rest.

Are we the only ones who can experience our dream?

Absolutely not! More than your own muse can share your dream, whether they’re from the same world or a stranger entirely. You’re welcome to have anyone and even a multiple of people, not just one other, experience the memories with you as you see fit.

Cool, but what about bad memories?

The intention of this is to give people relive their good memories and dreams overall, though that isn’t to say some bad ones can’t slip in due to a hiccup or two. Sometimes it just happens. So if you really want your character to relive some bad memories, we won’t stop you at all, so feel free to slip in some bad memories as well if that’s what you’d like to do.

Are we stuck with only one memory?

Absolutely not! Please don’t feel stifled that you are only kept to one memory or dream. Throughout this time, muses are absolutely able to cycle through many different memories that you want to explore, whether it be your own or falling into another dream of someone to experience. Feel free to shift through as many memories as you want in either one thread or several, the sky is the limit.

Is there a wrong way to relive a memory?

Nope! It’s completely up to the mun on how they might want to relive it. If you’d prefer to have your character to be a third person viewer, such as merely observing the memories pan out while they watch on and essentially watch themselves interact with the world as it happened, that’s completely fine. They can still interact with the setting and people in their dreams and memories just the same, though in a way there would be two of them walking around: themselves as they are and the them from the memory itself. However, you can also take it as a first person stance, such as you being put in place of your memory self and interacting that way, as if you were truly reliving that moment.

Can we alter memories at all?

No. Nothing changed in these dreams will permanently alter any memories. Even then, while the memory doesn’t have to play out to every little detail as your character recalls, the core event of the memory will still conclude as it would have. That being said, if your memory is of a farewell to someone, you can’t alter it to where they would stay indefinitely and the dream would find a way to make it end how it would have come to pass. However, little interactions are perfectly okay, such as telling someone you love them when you hadn’t before and receiving a response that was never given, or more playfully removing an item from the scene which would make the memory figure in question have to look to find it, etc.

Do we have to have our characters participate?

As with every event, this is very much optional! Maybe the aura didn’t affect your character at all, so you’d still be awake. Hopefully it might not be a little too strange walking by and seeing some people napping on a random patio or against a wall, though... but at least the NPCs are still wide awake to take your coffee orders and drive you around, right?

“Ugh.” Great - just what he needed to hear. 

At the explanation, Kaz rolls his eyes in an almost overly dramatic fashion. He understood experiments, hell, he was fond of conducting his own to see how far they would go and what his limits could be. But being apart of them, against his own will? Not exactly the biggest fan. 

“Right.” 

“I see. And what is this place called?” Spi.... something? Truth be told, it went in through one ear and out the other when he first got here.

Zeed motion the well dress stranger as he squint and point toward a alley way that this well dress man about to cross by as hidden in the dark. There two skin heads with NULL tatoo on their head who holding VERY sharp knifes. They seem to be waiting for certain sharp dress man to make a turn.

“Maybe don’t dress so fancy in the bad side of town? I mean judging from your cloth you should be able to hire a body guard or two right? You know martial arts? Got anything to defend yourself with?”

Zeed NORMALLY don’t get invovle in other criminals business….but those two NULL groupies have robbed him blind after he accidently got drunk in a bar and left him with nothing but his boxers. So Zeed feeling like acting like a PROPER hero just this once….DON’T EXPECT HIM TO DO THIS OFTEN THOUGH.

“Of course you can go in and scare them off. If you walk away they’re gonna  chase after you or….you can pay me what? Ten- twenty stars? What currency does the city use? I blast them to you so you don’t waste your daily limit on whatever smancy fancy powers you have. What do you say? Mr…..” 

The man comes off a tad too strong for Kaz right off the bat - so much so, he wants to just push past him and continue on his way. He stops himself from doing so, however, when he notices his gaze at the alleyway ahead of them, and he indeed spots the potentially dangerous people ahead of them, waiting for him to make a turn - ready to jump him, gut him, take everything from his form. 

Zeed continues to talk, but it all practically goes in one ear and out the other. But he picks up on the tone of his voice, the eagerness in wanting to keep him safe at the cost of a couple...stars. He takes a mental note that stars must be the currency here in this unfamiliar city, and lets out a low laugh. 

“No need.” 

With a wave of his hand, Kaz shakes his head, and allows his hands to properly rest atop of his cane. 

“I don’t have any fancy powers-” He’s not Grisha. “But I know how to fight and fend for myself. If they’re looking for a fight, then it looks like they might have picked the wrong person for it. I’m no fool, but unfortunately, it seems I might have taken a wrong turn and ended up somewhere I shouldn’t be...” 

Finally, he turns to look at the man, taking a proper look at him. He doesn’t look like he could fight - let alone look like someone that could steal from him. But maybe he’ll be pleasantly surprised, if this group of thugs decide to approach them to loot them. He realized he asked for his name, and he’s not much for simple pleasantries. Especially not at a time like this. 

At least there’s another name he can go by. Something that instills fear in those around him. 

“Dirtyhands. And what should I call you?”

At a minimun Rhein wore five golden rings at his fingers for each hand, at a minimun he must look like he is money, and wealth and everything that inspires within breathing notice. 

At a minimun, a golden chain that connects both sides of his coat slags down, unchained for once and trails on the floor. Rhein footing stops suddenly, the weight felt cleanly. 

He takes a moment to force a pleasant smile on his face before turning to the other. His handsome expression slightly dampened by his fake smugness. 

 “It is. Are you going to let go of it?”

“Perhaps.”

Although he doesn’t smile, there’s a small hint of playfulness in the tone of his voice. He leans down, moving his cane just enough so he can scoop the chain up from the floor and hold it in his hand, only taking a quick glance at it. 

“Looks expensive. You should be careful about how you wear your jewelry, ya’know.” It sounds as though Kaz is going to drop it off into the stranger’s hand - but he doesn’t, only holding it up so he can look at it.

⚔️ //  it  was  late.  the  ECLIPSE  had  came  and  went  as  it  always  did  every  so  often.  this  time  ,  however  ,  the  sight  had  made  byleth  restless.  CONSUMED  by  thoughts  of  her  home  and  the  war  she  could  not  play  a  part  in  ,  byleth  had  taken  to  wandering.  her  roaming  had  carried her  through  the  residency  sector  ,  past  the  swamplands  and  out  towards  the  steadily  quieting  marketplace.

            she  hadn’t  been  looking  where  she  was  going.  and  ,  so  it seemed  ,  neither  was  HE.  both  took  a  step  back  at  the  same  time  ,  and  just  as  quickly  ,  byleth  was  scanning  the  newcomer  over.  a  kid.  about  as  old  as  some  of  her  students.  a  cane.  kept  close  to  his  side  ;  weight  bearing.  wary  eyes. 

            “—it’s  fine.”  a  quick  ,  darting  glance  behind  her  shoulder  and  the  townhouses  beyond  informed  her  of  where  he  might  have  been  heading. “… i  take  it  you  are  a  neighbor  of  mine?”

Kaz can’t help but to follow her gaze, looking towards the townhouses. All have the same structure, same looking buildings - it’s all but clear to him that this was supposed to be a designated living place. (how boring, really - but he doesn’t comment on it.) It only takes him a few seconds of investigating for him to turn his attention back towards the woman, who seems to be observing him.

Understandable.

“Depends.” 

The answer is obvious, really - but cutting the conversation off so short feels a bit rude, doesn’t it? 

“Which one do you live in?”

“Um, well… sort of?” He’d had pacts with them for quite a while, and helped them evolve (though that was a moot point here), but it wasn’t like he’d raised them since birth. “It’s… complicated, I’m…”

Letting out a sigh and a shrug, Emil crouched down again to pat each of the monsters on their heads.

“I’m not human?” Might as well be outright with it- it wasn’t like he had any reason to hide that fact, after all. Not that he wanted to get into all the details, but he could at least say some parts. “I’m a sort of spirit- monsters like them are pretty important to me, and I guess I am to them as well.”

��Ah, is that so?” Kaz takes the information of the other not being human in rather quickly - practically unphased at what he’s being told. He pushes himself up after taking a few more moments to observe the monsters, taking in a deep breath as he does so. 

“By the way they’re acting right now, it looks like you’re pretty important to them. They seem pretty smart, too... seeing that they’re giving you something for the holiday itself. They see you as their father.” He doesn’t smile, but there’s a hint of sincerity in the tone of his voice.

Father’s day... 

It’s a holiday he’s never heard of. It was never something celebrated in Ketterdam, and if it was, then he had no clue of it. (Or he just didn’t care.) He didn’t necessarily have a father he could celebrate, after all - all his memories of his father all go back to the farm. He remembers his father being kindhearted, and raising him to learn and know more about farm life that he still holds close to his heart. 

Just in case. 

The memories aren’t hazy, persay. Nor were they things that he’d rather not remember. 

They’re just things that he doesn’t let himself think on too long, lest he’s to allow himself to fall victim to his underlying feelings of the subject. He wouldn’t allow himself to show vulnerability, not where others could see it. 

If he were back home in Ketterdam, sure. 

But not here.
