Intro Help
Tumblr media
Hey everyone! I am using canva to make my how to write guide and found a great template to fill out. My only problem is that I can not come up with a good into at all for this guide. Should I talk about the three accounts at all or just go right into my tips? How much of my analysis do i mention?

I think that any way works! For my own project i ended up just putting it into the introduction because I wanted it to be the main focus. But if you have a whole slide just dedicated to it that also looks good and will fit I think.
Peer Request 3
Should I just include my research question in my introduction or keep it on its own slide? Or should I add more information to this slide so it isn't just the research question?

I think that your sample content and tips look great! When i read them from the perspective of a content creator all of the tips make a lot of sense. I would only add some examples of how your sample post relates to your tips but other then that all good!
Peer Request
Tumblr media
This is an example of the content I created for the How to Write Guide, showcasing some of my tips. I have included some tips below, do you think they're written in an appropriate language for content creators? Do they convey quality advice?
the first tip I want to emphasize is the importance of timing your posts correctly. In our constantly refreshing digital world, the initial moments after posting are crucial for maximum engagement. Posting during peak downtime, or when you know your audience is most active on Instagram, is the best way to ensure maximum engagement.
I also found that each of these accounts post constantly, almost once a day. Staying active and engaged with their audience keeps them coming back for fresh information.
Another crucial tip, even if it seems obvious, is to use eye-catching designs, vibrant colors, and enticing language. The content must be captivating to attract users, and research has shown that bright, appealing cover photos play a significant role in achieving this.

I think that all of the data looks good on the graphs and makes sense, just make sure there is a title on all the graphs to know exactly what is being shown. I would just play around with some color maybe, but other then that yeah it looks good!

Do my graphs have enough information? Can you look at them and know what the caption is and how many likes each photo received for each person? It was hard to create graphs for all three dancers I chose since they each have a huge difference in what they post and the amount of likes they post. My research question is how different dancers with different styles connect with the dance world. Looking at the comments and likes I was able to see who people relate more too.

Focusing on the project!
Tumblr media
This project has definitely been a struggle for me but I think that I may be getting a hang of it! I have been struggling with the design and how i want to show my analysis, canva has been a lot of help.
What are your ideas/suggestions for graphing your data so it's reported in multiple, meaningful ways?
A lot of my data I had used excel to make line graphs that were comparing a lot of data. I went to canva also and I added some pie charts and some extra bar graphs also which I think helps the readers understand my data better and helps me get my points across.
What elements of data matter in your space?
The main elements of data that I am focusing on are the likes and comments of each post. My RQ is to find which type of instagram post gets the most engagement. When collecting the data I am trying to find out the averages of video posts compared to pictures to see which ones got more engagement overall.
How to Write Guide: what will be the hardest part of content creation?
I think that just figuring out what I want to put in the actual sample posts has been the hardest part for me. I keep thinking of different things to put in them but I keep deleting and redoing it. I also don't really think of myself as a content creator so I have been struggling making a guide for them if that makes any sense but my analysis section is helping me put it together a little more.

Assignment Question?
Tumblr media
One of the main questions I have is, where should my appendix go in my paper? In some of my feedback I was told to put some of my data in the appendix but I have never made one before and am kind of lost on how to do it and how much data I should put in it. Another question I have is, how much "content" should we create for the how to write guide? in my case I am using instagram posts, how many posts should i make?

Module 2 absolutely helped me also when collecting my data! It is great that you can recognize successful content, i struggle with this myself still but that will improve hopefully. I had no clue on data collection before this class so this module was great.
Data Analysis
Tumblr media
Things from the Data Analysis in Module 2 that are helping me now on content analysis is, that I now have an understanding and background knowledge on media data that I didn't have before. I can now recognize 'successful' content and understand what decisions had to be made to make it so 'successful.

I completely relate to this practice will go a long way. In my own case, I feel like i cant really make good conclusions unless i am looking at a lot of data, but then i feel like i am overanalyzing. This is also something that i have never done before for a class and i feel like it is kind of fun.
Original Writing 3.3
Tumblr media
I feel like I still need practice on analyzing data to draw conclusions about writing. I have never had to do this for a class before so it is all new to me. Knowing how to analyze data I am able to record data from all three of my content creators I chose to answer my research question. I need to record more data from my content creators instagram to fully analyze why they post what they post and how it gets attention from the audience.

What digital space are you planning to focus on?
As of right now I am focusing on Instagram. I decided to mainly focus on instagram because of the practice that we had on the last data collection project. I was actually at a toss between youtube and instagram though but i found better accounts to collect data on when i was checking instagram also.
How are you narrowing your account choices?
At first when looking for accounts I couldn't think of a single topic that would have three accounts and I was lost. Then i started to think of different hobbies that might work and i ended up doing different nature accounts on instagram. I have been trying to get outdoors a lot more recently in the past couple of years so when collecting data this will at least be something that I find interesting.
How does your experience analyzing data to draw conclusions about writing help you with this project?
Because we have this extra experience associated with data collection it can help us read between the lines when looking at the engagement on posts. It will also help us answer our research questions easier that are associated with our current project. This also allows us to know more about the writers decisions when releasing the content and how it relates to the elements of web writing.

Questions about the content analysis project
Tumblr media
So far In the project I am just about to finish finding the Instagram accounts to look for, I am just narrowing down some that have a similar amount of followers. The main question I have is about the research question we are supposed to develop, should our question focus on web writing elements or can it be something unrelated? Lastly, what should our sample content look like, for the how to write guide? Should we make Instagram posts and use those as an example?

I also collected data on this post and was just as shocked. I assumed that because the wrap up post for this event got a lot of likes that this would also, but I was wrong. I wish instagram let you see more details about the posts also i think that the time of day the post was created is an important factor when analyzing the data.
“share an example of a data piece you recorded that surprised you”
Tumblr media
This post only had 20 likes, which surprised me because I feel like events on campus are more of the popular kind of posts. Maybe that is also a bias from me, though, as I used to enjoy campus events no matter what the main general theme of them was. I think the sense of community was what I enjoyed the most about them. Other posts on this account that got more likes were ones with actual students in them. I feel like while that does make sense, the actual event itself is what brings the students together. Instagram does not allow the viewer to see exactly what time stamp this was posted at, so maybe if it was posted early morning of April 26, I assume many students are night owls (again, maybe just pushing my bias onto this assumption as I am a night owl) and that is why it got less likes than other posts? I think that the lack of data we are able to access as a viewer of the account definitely affects how we interpret the data.

This is a great strategy that i also have been implementing into my writing. One thing i struggle with when doing this though is not writing enough at one time and i will write only a sentence or two when i could have written more. But so far i have been loving this and I think that you have a great strategy to use for the semester.
dividing up the project
Tumblr media
How am I dividing up work to make it more manageable? in short terms, I'm just doing a little each day. Just a few sentences or answering a question or two after I get home from work will cut down the amount so I won't have much to finish by the due date. By doing this it makes the assignment more manageable so it doesn't all pile up on me on the day its due.

One step at a time is a great strategy for not getting too overwhelmed! One thing i will take from this post is to do more background research before starting my writing, I tend to just dive right in. I also used instagram for my data collection and i agree that it was super easy, and i agree that going through everyone that liked each posts was the only tiring part.
Original Content
I’m trying to approach this project like I do the rest of my classes, one step at a time. I find that breaking it up into smaller bite-sized chunks makes it less daunting to take on. I like to start a project by getting my footing and learning the background information by completing the readings or watching the required videos. Then I’ll complete the smaller assignments, easy ones I can knock out of the way quickly. Bigger assignments I usually split into a couple of days, but I still prefer to sit down and crank it out rather than dragging it on longer than necessary. Data collection has been generally simple, Instagram makes it easy to quickly find likes, comments, locations, and tags. The only thing that took a bit of time was going through who liked which post and who didn’t.

I can relate to you when it comes to posing at night, almost all of my posts so far have been made sometime after 8pm. I really like the idea of taking the day to learn from peers and look at different examples and then posting later in the day. I wonder if a change in time when posting will boost engagement from peers?
Content Strategy
Tumblr media
After completing my data analysis project, my definition of content strategy is producing the right type of content for the target audience during the peak hours of media consumption. I noticed my Tumblr posting patterns are that I post more at night than in the morning, I think this is why I never really receive feedback from classmates on my posts. Posting at night means I am able to focus on my content strategy throughout the day. I find more inspiration to create my own posts at night while I tend to interact with others’ posts throughout the day. When I reply to peers I reply to the ones that catch my attention, which is easier to do when the first thing I see is an image. My Tumblr posts show the content strategy of a busy college student as I usually post when I have free time during my busy schedule. The typical “basic college student” is always seen as being up really late and working around the clock. This is mirrored in my posts, as many of them are made late at night.

Here is a small look at my data chart that I did for the Data analysis project, (I couldn't fit all of the chart in one screenshot). I am wondering if anyone added this chart into the second part of their project? Another thing i am wondering is, did anyone else make a graph as another way to show the data? What kind of graph would work best to express all of the data, I am thinking a simple bar graph would be good but let me know. I have also seen some other post recommending to add color to the data collection chart which i never thought of and will be doing!

Heres how I am doing my Data Collection Project!
Tumblr media
Share how you are dividing up the project so you complete small parts each day?
Because this is one of our first big projects, I have been giving myself more time overall to collect my data and to write. As of right now I split up the second section of the project into two days of writing and have compleated about half of it as of making this post. I am hopeful that by splitting the writing up like this it wont be as stressful of a work day tomorrow. When doing the writing I have also been setting timers to take breaks as to not burn myself out and get stressed.
Share how you are collecting data, why?
For this project, I chose to use the English world languages departments instagram instead of my own. When collecting my data I decided to monitor each post for fifteen minutes refreshing the post every five minutes just incase more data occurred while monitoring. After refreshing I would have made a note on any change but after already collecting my data there was no change in likes or comments after each refresh.
As you are collecting data and analyzing - what patterns are emerging?
One pattern I realized in collecting my data was that the post involving the community got more engagement via likes on the posts. An example of this is one of the post I collected data on showed the spring graduation and included pictures of professors and students celebrating. This post showed a lot of the community and a big event which ended up getting a lot of engagement and the most likes. The next post to get the most likes was another big event that showcased some pictures of professors and community members coming together for an end of year celebration.

Dr P Check-in Post #3
Tumblr media
What assignment questions do you have that will help you complete the assignment successfully?
Part One
I am feeling very confident in the data collection part of this project, should we split the two sections of the project into two different submissions?
Part Two
For the second section of the project, i was wondering, what sort of designs should we implement into this section, would our data tables we made work? Can we put more picture examples from the posts that we collected data from? Lastly, how formal should this essay section be?
