maybe just maybe the reason Jon didn’t do anything greatly heroic this battle was because for ONCE it wasn’t about him. It was about everybody battling for their lives together. It was about Jamie and Brienne literally fighting with their backs aganist the wall. It was about Greyworm bravely directing the Unsullied to protect the retreating army. It was about Beric and the Hound saving Arya. Sam fighting to his almost death, Lyanna Mormont defeating a giant, Melisandre being a vital part of the battle and providing fire when no one else could. It was about Podrick and Davos fighting off countless wights. It was about Jorah giving his life for Dany.
it was about THEON GREYJOY taking on wight after wight even after all his men were dead. Theon Greyjoy never leaving Bran’s side and kicking ass alone in ways that not many other men could have done.
It was about ARYA STARK being a badass and killing the NK.
The show isn’t disrespecting your favorite. For once it’s just not up his ass and centered on him and his heroics alone. I for one like the change.

Lyanna Mormont
Lyanna was a 13 year old girl.
She took on leading her house when she couldn’t have been more than 10 years old.
She could silence a room full of grown men with her voice.
She always said what she felt needed to be said.
She learned to fight so that she could stand with her house against the army of the dead.
She chose to lead her men into battle rather than hide in the crypts.
She stood her ground when faced by a giant.
She took up a weapon and rushed the giant.
She slew the giant in her dying moments after it had already crushed her small body.
She died a hero.
Lyanna Mormont was a 13 year old girl and she showed more courage in her short life than most people ever will.

I’m obviously beyond heartbroken about Theon’s death because I loved him so much and I feel like there was more that he could have done. I’m not a fan of the “dying to redeem yourself” trope, especially when it comes to a character who has already suffered so tremendously. I had hoped that he would be able to ultimately find a place in this world and truly begin to heal, because I wanted him to prove that you’re never “too far gone” after abuse.
But that being said, it’s also rare on this show for a character to get a death that’s meaningful and not completely rage-inducing and I’m grateful that he, of all people, got one.
He got to live much longer than anyone expected. He got to stand on a ship and look up at the sun shining behind the Greyjoy banner after everything that he suffered. He got to feel the ocean on his face again. He got to see dragons and look into the heart of winter. He got to make peace with his sister, with Jon, with Sansa, with Bran, and ultimately, with himself. He got to die a hero, standing his ground, protecting someone that mattered to him, and the last words that he ever heard were of acceptance and acknowledgment, which is all he ever wanted.
It may not be what I’d hoped for him, but I’ll accept it. And after all… what is dead may never die!

Jamie galloping towards Drogon with nothing but a spear in season 7 and Jon literally screaming at Viserion in season 8 has the same incredibly-brave-but-dumbass energy.

Say what you want about the Game of Thrones TV show but that scene where the Dothraki charge into the darkness before their lights slowly fade out as their cheers turn to screams before it becomes soul shrivellingly silent shook me to my fucking core

anyway theon sacrificed everything to be back in winterfell and fight for his home and family. he knew protecting bran was a suicide mission and he did it anyway, until the very last arrow, and bought arya the time she needed. rip in peace to the best man in westeros, i love you with my whole heart
