Bri shurged and chucked self consiously. "Well, sorry, it's hard to be cheerful when you're about to go into a bloodbath." Bri looked down nervously, not exactly a great way to make allies. "Umm, anyway, thanks." Bri laughed nervously, "I won't, as long as you don't." Bri looked back up at Saye, trying to look her in the eye, something she had been working on, as she looked for a new topic. "How do you hold your breath for so long?"

ooc: Hey! So, I'm your district partner. In Muff's reaping I basically made it seem like he was going to try to protect you in the games. So I was hoping that you might agree to an alliance between the two of them? And also that we could do a para together so they could get to know each other better.
Yeah, sure that would be great :) only problem is that I'll be gone from tomorrow until sat :( ill try to start something later today.

Bri shrugged as she grabbed onto the edge as well. "It's okay. I don't have any siblings or friends really, so I don't have as many people I care about. Plus my parents will have an easier time eating without me." She looked down, " I do feel bad about making them worried, hoping I might come home when I probably won't." She glanced back up smiling again. "Could you teach me to swim better? I can barely swim one length of the pool." She laughed a little at herself.

Bri's eyes widened as she surfaced breathing raggedly, and almost hit a tribute in front of her. She wiped her hair out of her eyes quickly but sunk a little until she regained rhythm. The only swimming she had done was at a small pond, more for the purpose was that she was hot, not doing laps, and definitely not often. "I'm so sorry!" She gasped, "I couldn't see where I was going, sorry." She smiled a little ruefully, "I'm not very good at swimming, as you can probably see." Bri slowed her breathing a bit as she adjusted her position in the water better. "Oh, I'm Bri, Bri Panfields from nine." Bri vaguely remembered that the girl in front of her was from district seven or eight.

Three, two, one.
Bubbles floated up from Saye’s mouth as she looked up from the bottom of the 20-foot-deep pool. Technically, she was supposed to be swimming laps, but Saye just liked to stay in the water until her fingers got all pruny. She was already a fast swimmer; she didn’t need to practise. Instead, she would dive all the way to the bottom of the pool and pretend she was at the beach, diving for seashells. If she closed her eyes, she could almost feel the little minnows darting between her toes.
Reluctantly, Saye returned to the surface, her lungs collapsing under the weight of water without the sweet taste of air to inflate them. She gasped and dog-paddled in a circle, finding herself face-to-face with another tribute.

Pebble Bracelet Token
Tumblr media
The bracelet was woven by Bri's father. He hardly ever has time for her or money, even though he tries. For her eleventh birthday he bought the twine and made it for her. She learned how to do it herself soon after, but always kept it with her. When she got better at weaving, mostly grass, weeds, and leftover grain stalks, she would thread in a little stones or pieces of unsharp glass with twine her father had left over. Most were put in on important day, or special memories. Even though the stones are all found in the forest, she normal finds them in the river and wants each to be beautiful and match the others. Bri doesn't remember what they all mean, but whenever she feels down she can remember all the happy memories. She still has about a quarter of space on the band left. Even though the reaping wasn't a happy day, Bri's dad brought her another pebble, bigger than the others to thread in as a goodbye present. In order for the gamemakers to accept it she threaded the extra twine on the inside of it to hide it, she didn't know if they would let her take in more than one thing.

Bri worked at knotting since she only knew a square knot. Finally she accepted the inevitable and walked over to the fighting area. The girl from 11 was working on hand fighting there. Might as well try to make friends, Bri thought. She hesitantly approached her then tapped her, Zaei she thought, then said in one breath, "Hi I'm Bri and I don't know how to hand fight and I thought maybe we can practice together if you want maybe." She looked down sheepishly. (Sorry about the comment and post I'm just trying to figure out how this works (: )
After Zaei built up her optimism once again, working on the trapping area where she knew she excelled, her dark brown eyes glanced to the middle of the training center… the hand-to-hand combat area. C’mon Zaei… you’ve got to try new things. How are you going to survive if you can’t do this?! She...

The Improbable l The Reaping
As usual, Bri woke with the sun. Today was a day off, a festive, exciting day. But no one felt excited here. Everyone dreaded today, reaping day. She got up and her mom gave her an apple the Bri had collected the day before. "Wash up, the Reaping starts in two hours." He mom said.
After Bri was out, her mom handed her a simple blouse and pretty green skirt. They were old, her mother and her dead aunt had both used them in their first reaping. Every penny possible was spent on food, so clothes were almost always hand-me-down.
Her name was in three times and it was her first year. They needed  the tesserae desperately because her mother had been demoted. She was sitting on her mat, and panic threatened to seize her. Stop, she told herself, there are only a handful of girls that have their names in less than me. Most 15, 16, 17 year olds have their name in dozens of times.
To soon, she was presenting her finger to the peackeepers, then she was in her age group. Kis Bay, the escort Had on a bright green suit, which distracted Bri from his drone about the honors of the hunger games. Nobody was moved and he finally started the video which even a child could recite. "Amazing!" he said, smiling and cheerful, "Ladies first!"
Bri made herself pay attention unlike many of the others who were zoned out and shaking with fear. "Bri Panfields!" She sucked in her breath, keeping back tears. As she moved to walk to the stage, she looked back, hearing her parents but her view was swallowed up by peackeepers. Bri stared at the sky as one tear leaked down her cheek. She quickly wiped it, mounting the stage. "Anything you'd like to say dear?" Kis Bay asked. "I will not die." she said calmly more for herself and her parents then anyone else. "Ok, that's great sweetie." Kis said and walked to draw a boy out. As the boy was called her resolve to pay attention slipped away. She numbly looked at her parents, barley seeing them. Happy hunger Games to me, she thought.

→ Bri Panfields | 12 | District Nine | FC: Ellie-Darcey Alden | Taken
Daughter of poor grain farmers, Bri spends most of her time outdoors in the grain fields. At only 12 years old, most of her day is dedicated to harvesting or taking care of the grain. Her parents want her to get an education, but their inability to even put a meal on the table makes it harder for to go to school. But, being the adventurous girl she is, she often runs into the woods out of pure curiosity, watching the animals and studying plants. Bri was raised with exceptionally humble parents. Though she doesn’t get to see them much due to work, she understands the situation. She loves her mother and father very much, and loves exploration almost as much. She isn’t afraid to venture into new places; she let’s her curiosity drive her. Although she isn’t afraid of many things, one of her biggest phobias was to be reaped. Her first reaping was the one where her name was drawn, and all she knew was that compared to the tributes of District 1, 2, and 4, she had no chance.
