You could get a Defender Screenless Series for your iPhone 11, iPhone 11 professional, or iPhone Pro Max. Your device will be very safe in this rugged, time tested style, therefore it’s very much a no brainer.

OtterBox Defender Series

But over the past few years, Otterbox has expanded their line of case styles, not simply in its own branded offerings but also with its acquisition of LifeProof, a company  that was once a fierce rival.

LifeProof cases are broadly spealing a bit dearer, and once distinguished themselves from OtterBox cases with colourful cases targeting customers, with the added benefit  and focus waterproofing. 

So, its cases were continually a bit dearer than the OtterBox styles. The Fre, particularly, is that the LifeProof flagship.

Let’s go, through the Lifeproof lineup first since it’s a comparatively good range to look at.

In 2018, For iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS MAX, LifeProof introduced a couple of new case designs: the Slam and Next.  Next and Slam are very to be similar two-piece clamshell styled cases. Unlike the regular shock-proof cases from LifeProof, this is a one piece designed case instead of a clamshell-style, the phone slides into it, snugly. Part of the case includes a flip-open section that has a storage area for a number of credit cards.

As you hold the case you’ll be able to see that there’s a large sized indentation at back of the case to accommodate the flip-out section. This makes the case significantly thicker than the Defender, though it adds a touch of rigidity and shock protection. 

WATERPROOF CASES

The newer iPhones 11 are already IP68 water-resistant and able to survive half-hour of immersion at depths of two meters. So if a major consideration is your phone being rained on, Next is what we’d recommend as you have impact resistance and the device’s inbuilt waterproofing to rely on.

However for the ultimate in protection and added waterproofing consider Fre. Fre is LifeProof’s tried and true waterproof case style, that also has a scratch prtotector for your screen. This Fre style of case is the one that historically provided complete differentiation from OtterBox and therefore the Defender.

Now, with newer smartphones already being somewhat water-resistant, to start with, it’d appear that Fre is overkill.

Perhaps, but think on this. If we weren’t talking a couple of thousand dollars to buy the device and prices of $275 to $400 to repair or replace the screen a Fre case is chaep insurance and protection.

On iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro/iPhone 11 Pro Max, Fre includes a watertight lightning charge connective latch as well as the permanent screen/scratch guard. This is nice to have should you spend a lot of time around water or at the beach.

SCRATCH-RESISTANT CASES

2. You would like it to be a lot more waterproof than what the device provides out of the box, and you would like scratch protection for the screen (Lifeproof Fre).

3. You would like it to be extremely protective however you want a folding type  wallet case (Flip + Amplify glass)With any of those case options, your phone will be in safe hands.
