dark academia: stem + medicine
math: solving problems in the middle of the night, equations are written on the windowpane, quick calculations in your head, seeing mathematics as a secret language and barrier from the rest of the world, using probability theory to present a person’s life before their very eyes, understanding the algorithms governing every single step of „fate“ and how to manipulate them for your favor, cryptic notebooks, and lost alleyways
engineering: the power to create something that surpasses that is more than humans will ever be, governing and shaping the future of a whole civilization, late-night philosophizing on the nature and difference between humans and machines, crammed study sessions and tired blood-shot eyes
biology: extensive knowledge about herbology and toxicology, knowing almost every plant-based toxin and toxic mushroom in the local area, midnight at the lab with lowlights on and the dark hallways shrouded in mystery, glancing white lab-coats from the corner of your eye
chemistry: spending hours upon hours alone in the lab, perfecting formulas and conducting research because you just know the breakthrough is so close, sudden heureka moments in the middle of the night, inhaling new substances at secret meetings in old buildings to reach a state no human has reached before, prolonged shared eye contact and knowing smiles, the sound of a pen hastingly scribbling chemical formulas into a notebook
physics: „after all, murder is just the redistribution of matter, and matter is my specialty“, pointing out constellations in the sky, seeing patterns no one has seen before, wearing black turtlenecks and long coats while discussing quantum mechanics, hushed whispers, the melancholy of the endless search for another inhabitable planet, coffee cups left on the window sill
comp sci: the sound of typing at lightning speed, a lone screen glowing the absolute dark, losing track of time as you completely lose yourself in your code, trying again and again and again until it finally works, absolute dedication, crafting algorithms that can be used for good – but also for evil, code marathons isolating you from the rest of the world, being able to change lives at the press of a button
medicine: death looms always an inch too close, becoming as natural as life, white coats looming over the dissection table, staring at Rembrandt’s „the anatomy lessons of dr. nicholaes tulp“ in absolute awe, gloves covered in blood, syringes and needles in hand, hollowed laughter, being the last one in the library, knowing too well what sacrifice means

Prioritizing
Here’s a little handwritten graph for @coffeeandpies re: prioritizing. I like to use this when I have an overwhelming amount of things to do. It can at least show you what you have to be working on this very moment. I can post more about setting priorities later.
If you’re totally unfamiliar with using one of these charts, first make a list (in no particular order) of what you need to get done. Make sure you know all your due dates. Then designate each item to one of these four boxes: 1) urgent and important; 2) not urgent but important; 3) not urgent and not important; and 4) urgent but not important.
You should do everything in box 1 first. Next, you’ll probably do everything in box 4. You can decide when box 2 items need to get done, but don’t sweat them now. Put everything in box 3 on the back burner.

10 Reflection Questions
Hi everyone, on behalf of psych2go, I just  want to say thank you for supporting our work. It makes us want to do more. Here are some questions to help you reflect. If you’re interested in a journaling course we are putting together with more questions like this and a community, consider supporting us on Patreon for an update: https://www.patreon.com/Psych2GoNow
1. Where do you see yourself one year from now?
2. If you could be anywhere right now, where would that be and why?
3. If you could do anything right now, what would that be?
4. What is your mental state at the moment?
5. Are you happy with where you’re at? If so, what can you do more to ensure that you are consistently where you want to be?
6. If no to question 5, what can you change/improve?
7. Is there anyone you can reach out to for help?
8. What resources are available to you at the moment to help you to get point B?
9. What’s the most important thing to you right now?
10. What do you have to give up to be where you want to be?

Glow up tips/ideas
Here’s my little guide how to glow up in your life:
First, get your life together:
Organise and clean your home -Having clean home will make you feel better and lighter and therefore you will be more positive.
Have a life admin day -Write down all the stuff that needs to be done, all the appointments you need to get and everything that needs to be fixed. Then schedule in a day every month or every two weeks when you tick off these thing off your list.
Do your damn laundry
Create routines -They can be long and strict or short and very opened
Fight procrastination in all the ways you can
Take your mediaction and have regular health check ups
Now it’s time for mental health:
Make sure you eat and drink water regularly
Get a therapist if you feel like you need/want one
Practise your hobbies or find new ones
Listen to your favourite music
Meditate
Create a happy atmosphere for yourself -Buy plants and flowers, let your favourite music play in the background, let in as much ligh as you can.
Warm beverages
Be as positive as you can
Try to complain less
Don’t talk shit about people, especially not behind their back -You spread negative energy and hurt yourself in the process.
Say nice things to people, compliment them as much as you can -Being nice to poeple will affect your own mood for the better.
Talk about what you love, not what you hate
Get enough fresh air.
Glow up your mind!:
Read more books -Does not matter the genre
Watch movies and series
Learn new language -Even if it’s just a few words
Watch documents
Talk to people smarter than you
Try learning random fact every day
Find a new hobby
Think of ways to make your life better and help your surrounding -Minimalism? Zero waste? Vegetarian? It depends on you.
Find a new friend
Help people
And lastly the physical glow up:
Find out how much sleep you need and stick to it -Usually 8 hours are the norm
Play around with make up -You will fail and it might look wonky from the beginning. And maybe you won’t even like it. I want you to experiment.
Make sure to go make-up-less sometimes if you wear it often
Drink water -It won’t magically clear your skin completely but it will get better.
Wash your face in the morning and in the evening, but no soap if possible
Use as little skin products as you can -Sometimes less is more.
Lip balm
Eat vegetables every day -Every. single. day. It’s the best thing I have ever done for myself.
Eat oatmeal -It did wonders for my hair.
Stretch regularly
Exercise -Find something you have fun doing and do it as often as possible.
Avoid food with too much grease and sugar -You can have it but try to reduce it.
Prepare your outfit the night before -It gives you time to think about what you’ll wear and it’s nice to have it ready in the morning.
Get clothes you feel good and confident in
Get your dream hair colour! -Get crazy if you want
Learn to be comfortable with your body
Don’t shower every day -I know, I know… but listen… It’s actually much healthier for your skin to shower every other day and wash your hair even less. Plus it saves a lot of water.
Get a perfume -Have a scent
Get enough sun -You don’t have to be tan but getting sun on your skin is very healthy and it’s visible in other ways than tan.
Smile and spread joy
If you’re happy, show it -It’s contagious
Remember that beauty comes from within. That is why I put these tips in that order.
I hope I helped and have a great year!

I havent seen anyone talk about this yet so im making a post.
So lets say you’re researching something for a paper (or just for fun) and the research paper you want to read is behind a paywall, or the site makes you create an account first, or makes you pay to download, or limits you to only 5 free articles, or otherwise makes it difficult for you to read what you want.
Tumblr media
do not fear! copy the link to the article
Tumblr media
go to sci-hub.se         (the url is always changing so its best to check out whereisscihub.now.sh to find what the current url is)
Tumblr media
slap the article link in there

25 Ways to be More Sustainable on a Student Budget
whats up!
in case you haven’t heard, our planet is dying. whilst us students can’t all afford to shop at zero waste bulkstores with our stainless steel lunchboxes and branded water bottles, here are 25 small things you can do to live more sustainably (and without breaking the bank):
go paperless with your notes
donate or upcycle old clothes
take shorter showers
switch off your plugs overnight
bring your own lunch (instead of buying takeout)
reduce your meat intake (especially beef!!)
buy fruit/veg that are in season in your area
buy local (as much as you can)
reuse old takeaway containers to store/freeze food
use the bus/train instead of taking an uber or driving
buy wonky or non-aesthetic vegetables
sew up/repair broken clothes instead of throwing them out
avoid fast fashion where you can
turn off the tap when brushing your teeth!
check out charity shops or apps like depop when buying clothes
buy books second hand (from sites like worldofbooks or abebooks)
make sure your rubbish goes in the right bin!
always carry an extra (reusable) bag in your backpack
watch films online instead of buying dvds in plastic cases
reusable water bottles !! reusable coffee cups !!
freeze leftovers to reduce food waste (and make extra meals!)
re-purpose old fabrics (flannels into wash pads, sheets into produce bags etc.)
buy single bananas!! (these get bought less and often go to waste)
clean and reuse old sauce jars/bottles
swap sellotape for biodegradable washi tape!!
when it comes to the climate crisis, every little helps. thousands of people making the smallest changes can amount to a world-saving level of difference!!

little reminders
do you have homework due tomorrow? do it
did you get any homework today? do it
did you get an assignment notification? break it into small chunks, schedule these chunks and make a start on it.
do you have an exam tomorrow? do some light revision. or if you’ve left it until the last, turn off your phone, put it in your desk drawer and revise until you’re done. make sure you get at least 4 hours of sleep if you’re cramming, 8 if you’re not.
do you have a quiz tomorrow? do some v light revision, and redo some homework problems or handouts on the topic.
how much tea/coffee/general caffeine have you had today? how much water have you had? switch your next coffee refill to water.
have you brushed your hair? tame that mane.
have you showered? have a warm shower right before you go to bed so you feel sleepy when you come out.
are your feet cold? put on socks.
are you working your hardest? push a little harder.
when was the last time you allocated relaxing time? pick a cutoff point for your work, whether it’s 9pm or 1am, and spend 15-30 minutes (depending on the time) to wind down by reading a book, talking to family or friends, taking a shower and generally doing whatever you want.
