The Jhenny Follow-Up: @jhennyclothing
Sometime earlier this year I got the chance to chop it up with Jhenny (Owner of JhennyClothing), a really dedicated and talented guy from San Diego who makes clothes and has even organized a few shows for some folks in the underground. Be sure to follow him and check out his online clothing store (links at the end of the interview). Today Jhenny rejoins me, and we discuss the future of JhennyClothing, his feelings regarding making clothes and his views on it, and a bit more throughout the follow-up interview. Enjoy!
Tumblr media
A: I want to start off by saying welcome back. How have things been for you since we last talked?
Jh: Glad to be back, I’m happy we’re doing this follow-up, everything’s been all good for me, I’ve really improved my designing, printing, and shipping lately, I also got a lot more supporters of the brand now, (some international ones too), so that’s really cool to me.
A: When it comes to your work today compared to it in the past, would you say you’re happier with the current works and designs you’ve been doing as opposed to your older work? Or do you like them equally?
Jh: I’d have to say I’m happier with my current work, because the print quality is a lot higher (less fading and more durable sewing), and I’ve found my niche, I think my designs now are more representative of what I want JhennyClothing to be and stand for. But don’t get me wrong, I still love/wear my older stuff, but I feel like my brand has really matured and gotten better since a year ago, ya know?
A: Yeah, I get what you’re saying, and I agree. What would you say is the most important quality to have as a designer of clothes and fashion?
Jh: I’d say mentally, to view society’s fashion trends and interests in kind of a third person view/perspective, then put your spin on them (without coming off as corny or lame), and having good social skills so you can network/collab with others. When it comes to the physical qualities however, I would recommend to learn how to print, sew, design, and package your orders, so you can be fully self-sufficient
A: What’s it like to collaborate with others? Do things go well generally, or do you ever encounter friction?
Jh: Collaborations with others are a lot of fun. It’s cool to have a design/hoodie or tee that brings both of the brands/parties together, and  I always make sure everyone gets paid and the credit they deserve, so it usually ends up all good.
A: That’s good shit man. What goals do you have for the coming year if I can ask?
Jh: Definitely one of biggest goals for 2018 is to improve with every collection I release. I also want to get all my orders shipped faster and   do more collabs with friends and people I fuck with.
A: This may be a bit of an unorthodox question to ask, but does making clothes invoke an emotion in you? What goes through your mind during the process?
Jh: That’s a good question, but yes making clothes does invoke an emotion in me. Each design I make comes from a period of time (past, present, or future) in my life, whether I was happy, sad, or any emotion in between. When I’m printing and sewing my clothes, I feel really happy and fullfilled because i’m bringing my ideas to life. To answer your second question, whenever I create my clothing I try to make it as best as I can, by making it as “Jhenny” as possible.
A: During our last interview, you mentioned that you had helped organize a show in San Diego. Are you considering organizing shows again this year and doing things outside of JhennyClothing this year?
Jh: Yeah, I organized a show in San Diego with some friends back in June, it was a good show and good experience to have but just really stressful and time consuming, so this year I’m going to focus mostly on clothing , but I got to do a merch booth showcasing and selling some of my new stuuf at the Slug Christ, Chxpo, and Mackned show in San Diego earlier this month and it was really cool. I sold a lot of shirts and got to talk with some of the performers for a little bit, so I definitely want to do more merch booths in 2018 for sure.
A: That sounds amazing. Do you normally run the booths by yourself, or do you have help?
Jh: I usually have a friend or two to help me make sure everyone gets the right size shirt or stuff like that, but mostly I run them by myself.
A: When can we expect a new collection from you? Do you have anything in the works at the moment?
Jh: Early January I’m planning on releasing a JhennyClothing x Lord Saiyan hoodie for his upcoming “Ape Lord” tape. Come late January/Early February, I’m going to release a solo Jhenny collection, lots of 1/1 pieces and honestly some of my favorite and best work yet, so I’m really hyped and it’s definitely gonna start the year right/set the tone for JhennyClothing in 2018. I’m also going to do a one year anniversary “Body Bag” hoodie restock with Dirt from his “fire walk with me” project. As far as in the works, i’m working with Dxct on a pretty big collection(dropping soon), but I’m excited for 2018, I’ve kinda been slacking these past couple months so I’m looking forward to getting back to constantly releasing collections and clothing.
A: Shit, I’m really looking forward to that February collection man. If this isn’t too open of a question, how do you feel about competition, if at all? Are you influenced by any by some chance?
Jh: Hell yeah, glad to hear you’re excited about the upcoming stuff! As far as competition goes, I think it’s a good thing to have other clothing brands in the industry. It forces me and other brands to make better clothing and go harder, ya know? I am definitely influenced by other brands as well( like i’d be straight up lying if I said I wasn’t lol) but yeah I keep my influences wide so I don’t just stuck making “one certain type” of clothing.
A: Where do you hope to see JhennyClothing go as a brand this year? Will you expand into further articles of clothing, aside from shirts and hoodies?
Jh: I see JhennyClothing doing bigger collections, more 1/1 clothing, and being sold in physical stores. Yes, most definitely, I want to start making hats, socks, bags, and even shoes.
A: Awesome, that’ll do it man. Got any final words to give?
Jh: Yeah, first off I’d like to say thank you for interviewing me and always supporting, second I want to thank everyone else who supports me, I couldn’t do it without y'all <3, Shout out to all my friends and family as well for always being there for me, during times of happiness or sadness and for always pushing me to keep going, 2018 is going to be a great year and I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve been working on!
A: Thank you again for your time.

Rozz Dyliams: Faith, Hope, Charity: An Album Review
Tumblr media
Released December 22nd of 2017, Faith, Hope, Charity is the 12th album by Rozz following Dylvia Roska earlier this same year. The project is 20 tracks in length and it’s arguably one of the best in recent memory. Not to say other albums have been bad, but I will say there are some prominent strengths this album boasts while also having things it could have improved on. There’s also somethings it could improve on, but I’ll get into that as I go along.
Pros: Theme Consistency, Features, and Production
A big thing I personally enjoyed from FHC Is the fact that it’s been one of Rozz’s longer album and more consistent in maintaining the vibe of a horrorcore album. Albums that suffer from a lack of consistency that come to mind are Henwell and Brokaw and All Night Long, both good albums, but they seem to be looser, more experimental projects compared to this most recent album. The features in this tape were pretty great, seeing CrimeWave return to collab with Rozz is always good fun, but I especially enjoyed the later track ‘Triggered’ with a long overdue collab with K-Fix, who was previously featured in 'Murder Show’ from The Relic back in 2014. There are some other good collaborative works on this tape, but I won’t spoil anymore because I really want to talk about the production on this album. For a long time, there seems to be a lot of self produced tracks, and the only major stray from that with Rozz is when he collaboratives with PurpDogg, a certified OG and beat making wizard. FHC has a lot of producers involved, and I was more than happy to see John Mello producing for the song 'Instant Rush’, and it is definitely in the top 5 for me personally. OmenXIII produces for the track 'Simon Of The Desert’, and it definitely keeps shit interesting on this project. Overall, I can say Faith, Hope, Charity is a project with a lot of replayability, and sits pretty positively with me, although this is I can’t say’s a “perfect” album(but pretty damn close).
Cons: Transitions and Song Organization(this is kinda nit-picky but hear me out)
Tumblr media
Look(get it?)
I really enjoyed FHC, but I have to say the song transitions are just a bit…questionable.. Sure, there’s exceptions, but some of the more jarring ones are with 'Want’ and 'Roadman’ and 'Instant Rush’ and 'Drag Em’. It just sort of felt mismatched in early and late parts of the album as well. Rearranging some of the tracks would definitely improve the flow of the album, and would make it just a bit more enjoyable and smooth.
Outro: Final Thoughts
Tumblr media
Rozz is a really creative and awesome guy. His music saved me, and keeps me tethered during difficult times in my personal life. Sure I’m trying to be objective, and maybe I’m not all the best with getting my point across, but I hope my writing doesnt harm the general view of Faith, Hope, Charity. It’s great and worth checking out on its own merits. I just like talking about the stuff I care about. I hope to see more from Rozz, and I’m excited to see his future projects.

What 2015 Meant (to me)
This is a bit of an online esaay to a degree. SoundCloud became a big part of my life these last couple years, and I've decided after a really extended hiatus to talk a bit about the year 2015 and the works around it. Maybe this is good or maybe it sucks..Idk..
Tumblr media
The $uicide/SESH Rise + Wave
To talk a bit about $uicideboy$ and TeamSESH(In its hayday), we have to go back to the very aesthetic year of 2015, when the very wonderful albums of Powder, SoThereWeStood, Banshee, Frayed, and my favorite collaborative project SongsThatRemindYouOfHome. What I'm trying to emphasize with going back to look at this year is this was the year a huge amount of exposure was shown. Hell, 2015 was even referenced by Ruby in the song GOODBYE from a recent 'Kill Yourself' saga. For $B, 2015 was the year where two important things happened; Grey/Grey and Now The Moons' Rising were dropped, and the song Paris released in the previously mentioned album, becoming a staple for them and helped to break into a bigger audience with the video having garnered almost 43 mil at the time of me writing this. The sudden shot in mass appeal has rewarded them with commercial success, and while still having no record deal, $crim and Ruby became millionaires and have even been invited to a Lil Wayne concert as guests. While Bones may not have taken in as much of the limelight, TeamSESH still regularly drops consistent merch and projects, not to say $B hasn't but they have baselined to a degree, making way for people like the folks in DoomShop, RAMIREZ(of both G*59 and G.O.D.S), and many others to respin and retread what's been established, and that's a good thing. On that note there's someone, who really shot up at this time and only recently again have been making waves in the scene.
Tumblr media
Topoff In Wonderland
CjTopoff definitely has been 'Cult'ivating his work these past years, and I still really appreciate his work overall. While 2015 had 3 albums released via bandcamp for Topoff, Mr. Johnson's Acid House is by far his best album that year. Phonk Wonderland, Psychedelic Topoff, Nature Walk, and Mr. Johnson's Symphony are all timeless and important to understanding Topoff as an artist, but also psychedelics in general. In this regard, few artists, with the exception of TreZ and a handful of artists, really capture what tripping is all about, and that blows my mind. I'm not done with this theme of psychedelics and self discovery, as I talk about arguably one of the most important artists to emerge from the underground(in my opinion).
Tumblr media
The Self Discovery Of Rozz Dyliams
Dylan Ross has been my absolute favorite artist in recent memory. I actually had the pleasure of meeting him a handful of times in the last 2 or so years. I fell in love with his album The Relic and for a time I did the most I could to find and document his work. While his older work still speaks to me, 2015 was a pivotal year as a major event happened, and that was the name change to Rozz Dyliams. The self title album with the same name is arguably a staple to Rozz's discography as well as for the sad/alternative rap scene that Soundcloud has helped to make. Nothing is more passionate than Rozz's tracks, and while he had some goodies as Dylan Ross, tracks like Anaphora, Church Camp, Can't Pull Away really cement that while Rozz has taken more of a horrorcore aesthetic, what he does at heart is still the same mystic shit he's always done. Albums like GaleForce Beach also enforce this notion, with songs like Feelings, A Drop Of Doom, GaleforceBeach(title track) and the mentioned Anaphora, as well as the album Sapio Stare, with tracks like Perfect, Below The Ankle, Never, and Shadow On A New Moon, all these tracks highlight the witch-like aspect of Rozz's work, and him really focusing on that builds an identity, style, and flow which is yet to be matched in my opinion. A mix of violent horror and cosmic, unknowable love and beauty.
Outro..I guess
So I mean, I guess that's all I wanna say. There's no real point to talking about 2015 and some of the highlights for some artists for me, but it's nice to peek deeper into artists and their work. Everyone is still learning. I'm still learning to. I hope you enjoyed this...whatever it is. Love ya.
