Spanish Speaking Alec Lightwood Headcanon

-Alec is fluent in Spanish just like his sister, he just doesn’t speak it in public as often. 

-He mostly reserves it for intimate moments with his family or when he doesn’t want to include Clary in a conversation. 

-When no one else is around he calls Magnus mi corazón (my heart). 

-He started doing that after Izzy pointed out that Jace may have a piece of Alec’s soul but Magnus has Alec’s heart. Also Magnus has always been the type to enjoy a nickname. 

-Robert does not speak Spanish very well. He started learning when Alec was little because he got tired of asking Maryse to translate what their toddler was asking for. 

-Alec and Izzy helped Jace learn Spanish when he came to live with their family. It was Alec’s idea, he didn’t want Jace to feel left out. 

-When Jace or Izzy get overwhelmed Alec will hug them and speak to them softly in Spanish. If it is nigh time he will whisper the old Spanish lullabies that Maryse used to sing to them. 

-Alec now sings those lullabies to Max and Rafael. 

-Magnus will sometimes stand in the doorway of the kids’ bedroom just to watch his beautiful family and listen to his husband sing.

-Magnus loves hearing Alec speak Spanish. He is of the opinion that Alec’s declarations of love sound even more beautiful and romantic when he speaks that way. 

-Alec speaking in Spanish has been requested in the bedroom, just like Magnus speaking his native tongue has been requested. 

-Raphael assumed only Izzy spoke Spanish out of the Lightwood siblings. 

-He realized his mistake one day when he was talking to Magnus, believing that Alec didn’t understand them. Raphael made some sarcastic comment about Alec not being “that good a shot.” Alec lifted his head and in perfect Spanish assured Raphael that he could shoot straight, although that was the only thing straight about him. 

-When Madzie has to do a Spanish project for her mundane High School class Cat sends her to her favorite Uncles because that subject is “not her department”. 

-Rafael was happy the family that adopted him spoke Spanish, it made the transition to life in New York easier. 

-When Luke decided to purpose to Maryse he asked Alec to help him learn the speech in Spanish. Alec immediately agreed but asked why Luke didn’t go to Izzy first. Apparently Luke didn’t trust Izzy to translate the speech correctly, because she would want to add some extra mushy stuff in. 

-When Alec read the speech he had to stop himself from telling Luke that his speech was ten times more sentimental than anything Izzy could have thought up. 

-Simon asked Alec to give him Spanish lessons after he and Izzy started dating. The tutoring came at a price though, for each lesson Simon owed Alec 30 minutes of silence. 

-Alec kept a tally and saved the minutes up until Simon would need to be mute for a day. It was Alec’s favorite day that year. 

-Every morning when Alec wakes up he kisses Magnus and wished him a “Buenos días mi amor” (Good morning my love). 

-Magnus considers it the best part of his day.
