Bronx River Art Center is currently seeking applications from independent curators for our next art gallery exhibition period of July 2021 to June 2022! The submission deadline is February 22nd, 2021; send questions and application materials to opencall@bronxriverart.org. The selected curators will be responsible for contacting and sourcing all materials from artists, writing exhibition texts, and facilitating a public program. We encourage curatorial proposals by emerging and independent curators who are attuned to stretching boundaries and familiar with local Bronx artists. This call for proposals aligns with our mission of supporting emerging artists from underrepresented groups, such as women and artists of color and addressing relevant social and environmental issues. Sign up for BRAC's free Teen Project Studio +2.0 program this winter! The program is open to teens and young adults ages 15 - 26. The project, in collaboration with photographer Caroline Mardok, won the Plywood Protection Project, organized by @WorthlessStudios and will be installed in May 2021. TPS+2.0 is a unique opportunity to experience and learn about the visual arts & creative industries in an interactive and challenging way. Sign up for Teen Project Studio 2.0, a free 11-week program for teens and young adults ages 15-26! This winter, participants in Teen Project Studio +2.0 will continue working with @kan_landscape_design to design a public art installation honoring the Black Lives Matter movement. The installation will take place in The Bronx, located at the triangle plaza on East Tremont and Devoe Avenue at 179th Street, near the BRAC building. Teen Project Studio not only teaches young artists about making public art, but grants them the opportunity to be part of an actual project and involves them throughout the entire process: from design, to prototyping, to final installation. TPS +2.0's last project was the Hunts Point benches commission from McInnis Cement. @holmessamantha's "Mundillo/Little World", created with the support of @nyc_dotart and the Bronx River Art Center, is currently on exhibit just outside the West Farms Square - East Tremont Avenue train station. Collaborating with Bronx-based lacemakers to inform the Puerto Rican patterns woven into the steel, and with the aid of @4thstatellc to bring it to life, Samantha Holmes' metal sculpture is a monument to women's work and the cultural dynamism of the Bronx. The numerous openings in the steel offers an ever-changing composition from whatever angle you view the piece: be it from the ground or from the subway stairs. BRAC has worked together previously with Holmes on a 2018 installation titled "The Cavalry" in nearby Starlight Park.
