"Where's your beard? No, nah, no, no, that guy had a beard. Nah, that guy wouldn't shave for the Pope!" - Babe Heffron to Ron Livingston on the BoB Podcast
Considering the photos we have of Lewis Nixon shaved, and the photos we have are mainly because Dick Winters wanted a picture with his Nix, who was he shaving twice a day for? Hmmm?

#and my heart melted#band of brothers#winnix#lewis nixon#dick winters#the tags are so precious#=>#you trust me with this razor next to your skin. what an honor#*nix as dick is heavy breathing around him and lathering him with shaving cream and possibly sitting on his lap while doing it* yeah honor#sinners sunday in the church of rpf#archive this immediately#omg this

1917 was a hell of a year for work gossip at the Nixon factory. How the hell does some guy have the equivalent of $5000 in today's money in his pocket while drunk and end up in the canal just as they were draining it for repairs? And Highland Park is not next door to the Nixon factory.
And guess nobody gives a damn about that crime scene at the boat house. "Why did you leave your coat and vest?". Um...what about all the blood?

Just dropping in to say that as an archivist, it's so inspiring to see all your research! When I upload records to our digital archive it can feel like I'm sending them into a black hole, never to be seen again. You remind me why I do what I do :)
I. LOVE. THE. DOCUMENTS.
Seriously, I have been rooting around online NARA like a pig looking for truffles. I am requesting OMPF and devouring them. I go through all the Winters PDFs and the damned Craver court martial so much if I could wear out online docs, they would look like a broken binding book.
Last week I found letters of Grandpa Lewis Nixon pestering the shit out of the Secretary of State and President Teddy Roosevelt so he could try to sell submarines to Mexico. This week I'm going nuts because the harbor rats of Jersey are robbing him blind.
Fuck, I know about his prostate because of a death certificate.
You have no idea the depths of forgotten newspapers I have searched for information on George Darland, Iowa's unluckiest man and Chuck Grant's Father-in-law. All because someone scanned newspapers that went defunct in 1925.
I LOVE IT. I can't get enough of these little pieces of personality and putting together something to make these people more dimensional, have them be seen, care about these women who had so many kids.
Being able to look at these records and say "I see you." means something. Even if it's too late.
And I get upset for my friend Norma Jean Darland Grant who just wanted to go overseas but had a Captain who could never understand what this poor girl had been through and denied her that. (What's your problem, Ruth? You really think 'sulky' is a word you should be using on official paperwork. That sounds personal. Fight me.)
Don't get me started on Chuck Grant's shooting. Every person involved there has been background checked and scrutinized. Mocked even (Tab deserves it). Hated for being a shitty doctor (Soltz I diagnose you with being a pompous bitch and shrink for hire. Stupid and poor is not why that person in a car accident/run over by a subway train/blow jobs acted like that. ) Loved more for being the one guy in Austria still working while everyone else is drunk or fucking and bringing some sass to the standing when testifying (I love you, Ron Speirs.)
I have so much on Lewis Nixon III now due to archivists who have not quit or responded with 'Oh my God, why do you know this much about this guy?" and instead took my questionnaire and found his paperwork.
Archivists did this. And I wish you could see the excitement when we find these tiny scraps of information. Librarians did this. Tiny pieces to a puzzle that will make a better picture than 'guy shot in the head'.
I love it. You're doing amazing work. It matters. It matters to these people who would otherwise be forgotten and to people like me who just love getting mad at people from the past on behalf of dead people I never met but adopted because of Tom Hanks RPF masterpiece Band of Brothers. So, on behalf of everyone, thank you.

WHY would call Nixon Nitration Works instead of the police?!? They always seem to be at the plant for some theft or another. I guess her parent worked there? No idea.
I have no idea what happened to this girl, I can't find her in the papers again.
And back then Millville was what would be renamed Nixon. Not the Millville that is down near Bridgeton where Lipton would be working in the 1960s.
