ㅤ‘  Not  to  the  party,  from  the  party,  Gabbi!  ’  Sigh!  ‘  Only  the  starts  at  ten  part?  Who  waits  until  ten?  Why  do  they  wait  until  ten?  How  do  they  stay  up  until  and  past  ten?!  ’

“ who  parties  before  ten?    answer :    parents  and  lame  people.     so  don’t  be  a  lame  person,   riley  and  bail  an  hour  into  the  party. ”   a  smile  is  on  their  lips  but  a  look  of  challenge  is  in  their  eyes.    “ wait   ..    do  you  still  have  a  bed  time?   no  judgement,   just,    couldn’t  be  me. ”

ㅤ‘  It  starts  at  ten!?  If  it  starts  at  ten  then  what  time  are  we  leaving?  ’

“   dude,    i  don’t  know,   probably  before  ten?    what  part  of  it  starts  at  ten  did  you  not  understand? ”

“ as  a  cucumber, ”     they  say  with  a  grin  on  their  face,   hands  buried  in  the  pockets  of  their  jacket.     a  laugh  soon  follows  as  she  takes  a  couple  steps  closer,    “ my,  my,   what  a  gentleman, ”    she  teases,   sitting  down  on  the  hood  of  his  car.    “ gabbi, ”    they  say  as  they  stare  forward  then  towards  the  other.   “ that’s  my  name,   if  you  were  wondering. ”

their  head  rests  comfortably  in  eleanor’s  lap.    their  fingers  interlaced.   gabbi’s  falling  hard  and  fast,    but  she  doesn’t  know  where  the  ground  is  or  when  she’ll  inevitably  hit  it.   eleanor  has  easily  become  one  of,   if  not  gabbi’s  only  safe  person.    they  felt  that  was  a  bit  intense  to  admit  so   ..   friend  will  do  for  now.     if  friends  meant  you  kiss  occasionally  and  do  whatever  they  were  doing  right  now,    then  yeah,    best  friends.

the  movie  playing  on  the  screen  in  the  blonde’s  living  room  had  been  tuned  out  about  twenty  minutes  ago.   all  they  can  do  is  look  around  and  steal  the  occasional  glance  up  at  eleanor.    the  look  of  concentration  on  her  face  as  she’s  actually  watching  the  movie  makes  gabbi’s  heart  flutter  in  their  chest.

being  caught  staring  wasn’t  that  unbearable,   just  made  a  light  blush  come  to  gabbi’s  cheeks.    they  didn’t  advert  their  eye  contact  or  anything,   but  they  were  met  with  a  smile  and  the  words :

“ i’m  glad  you’re  here. ”

that  made  gabbi  feel  like  someone  had  just  punched  her  right  in  the  gut,     nerves  starting  to  take  over.    “ i’m  glad  i’m  here  too, ”    they  breathe  out,    realizing  they’ve  been  forgetting  to  breathe  for  a  while  now.    embarrassed  gabbi  glances  back  to  the  tv,   giving  eleanor’s  hand  a  squeeze.

letting  their  own  awkward  tension  subside  they  look  back  towards  her,   reaching  up  to  be  obnoxious  and  poke  her  on  the  chin  a  couple  of  times.   “ thanks  for  having  me  over, ”    they  want  to  leave  it  at  that  but  then  the  words  keep  coming  and  they  just  don’t  seem  to  want  to  stop.    “ i  always  enjoy  the  time  we  spend  together,   because  you’re,  like,   really  cool.    cooler  than  you  give  yourself  credit  for. ”
