Lover’s Oath: A Moonstone Varian x Werewolf Hugo AU

It has all sorts of my personal favorite tropes: childhood (best) friends to lovers trope, noble royalty x personal knight trope, immortal x mortal trope, reincarnation trope, (destined) soulmates trope, cosmically bonded trope

and because I love both the medieval period & modern era settings—I said yes to both ...both is good

This little project has been consuming my soul behind the scenes since last September 2024. It’s a story concept that sparked in my mind after reading When The Stars Came Falling, How to Train Your Werewolf by @aziraphalesbookkeeper and Now That You’re Here, Dear Fellow Traveller by @littlemisslol-fic back to back haha—I took heavy inspiration from bits of world building lore established by these different fics that I really liked and combined them to create a whole new plotline for this AU from there, but added with my own spin on the take laid out by said lore of course!

Which I’ve been making concept arts/visual keys of in between other projects and I will post them in parts. I’m very excited to share and show them with yall!

the thing about sabrina (both what she does and the backlash against her) is that none of it is new. none of it. women are punished for being too sexy and not sexy enough. too feminist and not feminist enough. sexy but in the wrong way, feminist but in the wrong way. any time any woman in the public eye has done anything sexual, whether in her career or in her private life, it gets litigated as everyone decides if she's doing a cool feminist thing or personally responsible for setting the movement back 50 years.

like the podcast You Must Remember This (which i HIGHLY recommend, it's a deep dive into hollywood history) has a whole season called "erotic 90s" about portrayals of female sexuality in 90s media and people have literally never been normal about it. "britney is corrupting the youth" "thelma and louise will turn women into man killing lesbians" "madonna is destroying feminism" like nothing new under the sun.

Varigo Week 2025: "Because I love you, idiot"

okay so i've seen some people express the opinion that it would made more sense if new memories/varigo didnt have their first kiss (yet) immediately after the eternal library fiasco because a lot just happened and they need to process that first—which I can totally understand really

(plus in the bullet script posted by the creators, it didn't say they shared a kiss, it just says they've confessed soooo yeh and besides I do think it would feel so much more rewarding/satisfying if they had their first kiss after they've mended properly and worked through their rebuilding relationship where they're in a place of being on the same page again after a decent chunk of time has passed)

So I propose a compromise, instead of a kiss it's a forehead touch—which is the headcanon that this is how ingvarrians express affection

when Hugo asks Varian why he's still willing to start over with him, Varian just have their foreheads rest against each other—no other words were spoken and they just stay still there in the moment because Hugo understood that Varian just said "because I love you (too)" through that simple action—and he presses closer in return
