i think when we used to point out that a story didn't need a sex scene what we meant was "this story reduces its women to mere sex objects and gives them no interiority so the sex scenes are gratuitous and geared towards the male gaze" it wasn't the sex that bothered us per se it was the objectification of female characters while givig them little to no consequence to the overall story but nowadays people mean "sex is icky and gross and has no merit to ever be portrayed in our arts which should be good and pure and never ever make ME feel discomfort" and it's like. i bet a bowl of unfrosted flakes looks real good to you rn

Sorry we really went from free the nipple, take back the night, slut walks, and ending gender/sex segregation in sports being fucking milquetoast feminism 101 concepts to fucking girl dinner and "I just worry about fairness if we let trans girls play against cis ones" and "it was right of that woman to call the cops on a black man for existing near here in public during the day time because men are all violent monsters" and "radical feminism isn't transphobic we just need to kill all men including trans ones those oppressive traitors" and I will legit never be able to be normal about it. What the FUCK happened. I'd say I wonder what the feminists of my youth would say about this but I'm one and lemme tell ya I want to throw up. Go fucking read bell hooks or do something else useful please because all of this learned helplessness, gender essentialism, and transphobia dressed up as feminism is actively holding us back.

some of the things that are recommened for vaginoplasty are so funny like. there's a four week period where i'm "encouraged to sensually explore the area" but "not allowed to climax" like okay doctor-mandated edging. if you say so lmao

yeahh i could just never really understand the "fucked stupid" trope i mean there's no way someone could go so hard you forget how to form words! it's just not realistic. now if you want to come over here and prove me wrong i'm all up for it but i highly doubt it. but again if you're really set on proving me wrong my door is open and unlocked and here are my coordinates. if you're interested

thinking thoughts about Weapons (spoilers below)
and specifically the idea that “tell an adult you trust” is just. Not Enough. For a kid, the grown ups in their life control EVERYTHING. How can you tell your teacher when you know it’ll ruin everything you do still have? When you have to go home every day scared out of your mind? Justine was doing everything right, she was concerned, she checked in with him, she told the higher-ups something was going on. But apparently “sitting Alex down in a strange room with his suspiciously braindead father and some strange woman no one in town knows and only asking ALEX questions” was enough for the authorities. and I don’t think that’s a plot hole at all I think that’s the point. Kids can only advocate for themselves so much, and that’s only if they’re not terrified of advocating for themselves at all. Sometimes you DO need to “overstep.” Sometimes you need to keep pressing.

I know there was intent to parallel school shootings but I felt more like childhood SA.
The signs that he was being abused were there. But Justine was worried about getting in trouble with overstepping again, and the other kids picked at his softness in the same way Gladys did, nobody noticed his long walk home, the store didn’t glance at a child buying tons of soup every other day, the police had bigger things to worry about, the school avoided calling child services for as long as they could.
Then when other children begin to be abused, the entire community comes together to form mob justice, not to actually fix the problem or become a community that can help take care of children or prevent it from happening, but by finding the “perpetrator” and punishing them with violence - even if they’re wrong.
The drug abuser who has important information isn’t trusted despite actually being correct. The teacher with alcohol abuse problems is doubted in spite of being the only person who wants to investigate the child being abused in front of her. The father who lacked emotional depth with his son hopes to make up for it via revenge, but even then he smashes his way through the world.
The parents that let the abuser into the home are forever apart from their son. The other children revealing the abuser finally makes people believe that something wrong is happening, and the abuser is “eaten alive” by the community, the principal who avoided calling cps for weeks is “destroyed,” and the children can’t speak for years.

sometimes a horror film is a very clear metaphor for the way the white suburban nuclear family facilitates violence. sometimes a horror film is an excuse to watch children tear someone limb from limb. sometimes it's both.
