Trolls AU Idea

Wip Drawing: Smidge who is a tomboy but with a twist…she has a girly side to her. So she’s a girly-tomboy!

This is a possible AU idea that I have thought of while riding in the car back home after a long trip, which explains why I have been quite offline here and there. But I’m back!!

I was thinking about exploring this AU to see how it would go. And yes, I do love working on multiple projects.

New Trolls OC

For my Spruce AU Series, this is Wade, known as Wade the Hair Whipper, since he’s is known for being good at whipping his hair. Now you may think this guy looks handsome, charming and good-looking right? He sure is but here’s the thing though…he is Spruce’s rival. Yeah, his looks can be deceiving. He kinda gives me Kuzco vibes. Like Kuzco from Disney’s The Emperor’s New Groove. So, Wade is known to a self-centered Troll who loves and seeks for his attention, especially out in public and on social media like Troll Tok and Trollsagram most of the time. He is selfish, cocky, arrogant, egotistical, spoiled, and a bit insecure and ignorant at times. And if someone else takes his spotlight (mostly Spruce), Wade will try to gain the spotlight again by creating dances moves and content on his social media platforms. When he finds out that Spruce is at the same college as him, Wade feels threatened by this, becoming vengeful and would do anything to be more popular than Spruce, even when it means competing against him to get better grades than him while also trying to humiliate and bring him down with his words or actions. And yes, he and Spruce will definitely interact at college and have their rivalry.

Translation:

Bruce (pissed off): JOHN DORY, GET DOWN HERE AND TAKE YOUR MEDICINE RIGHT NOW!

Bruce: If you don't come down from there, I'll tell Branch, and he won't be nice to you!

JD (in wild mode): *hisses aggressively*

Bruce (even more pissed off): And don't hiss at me!

Okay, guys, looks like it's Bruce's turn to appear in my little AU! Isn't he cute? (⁠✿⁠^⁠‿⁠^⁠). At first, I was a little unsure of how to draw him exactly, and like with Clay, I had some trouble with his hair (Bruce's bangs are weird). Although I mostly struggled with his body, because you know, Bruce is a big guy, and I wanted to do him justice in my art, but I also didn't want to go too overboard. However, I think I managed it. He looks big and really good, even with the beard and chest hair I decided to add to give it a little something extra. (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠). It doesn't look too bad, but I think I'd like to improve my body and facial hair skills, because Bruce and JD definitely look really good when people draw them with beards and everything. It's just something that suits them.

But anyway, we'll talk about the details of the drawing later, because it's time for the lore! (⁠ﾉ⁠◕⁠ヮ⁠◕⁠)⁠ﾉ⁠*⁠.⁠✧.

So, earlier on JD with Braces, I told you that John was suffering a lot thanks to the various treatments he had to undergo due to his poor dental hygiene and the fact that he hadn't seen a dentist for 20 years, which led him to develop three cavities, tartar, a broken tooth, and a significant underbite that was tormenting him. And dealing with everything, especially the recent installation of his braces, left John a mess. He's super tired and in a world of constant pain that makes his mouth a living hell and his face a generally throbbing piece of meat, which made JD just... well, unable to take it anymore. The man is exhausted and can barely contain how bad he feels, so he ended up letting his younger brothers take care of everything while he suffers.

So JD is constantly being pampered and cared for by his brothers without the guy bothering to put up a fight. He lets the guys take him everywhere (in the bunker, because he's forbidden from going out in his condition. Which John readily accepts, because he's also not keen on traveling anywhere other than his bed, the couch, or the garage to visit Rhonda), feed him whatever they want, and generally make sure he doesn't die of something anytime soon. At this point, John is in a state of absolute meekness that wouldn't normally be seen in him if he were even slightly better.

So you can imagine how genuinely sick the poor wretch is. XD

But of course, it's not like John was expected to suffer so badly. Obviously, his dentist prescribed some medication to help his teeth heal and others to help soothe the terrible pain the Troll must be experiencing. Things like an antibiotic to prevent infections (from tartar), anti-inflammatories, and some aspirin-like medicines because the pain in his mouth sometimes gives him headaches, so he has to take medicine for that as well as his teeth.

And look, John Dory didn't mind the idea of taking medicine. He would take anything, legal or illegal, just to make the pain, all the pain, go away, even if just a little bit. So the man was willing to let his brothers take him to the ground just so he could take a break from his hellish mouth.

The problem was that the medicine was DISGUSTINGLY bitter.

The Pop Trolls are a very natural tribe, so most of their medicines come directly from forest plants and herbs. And of course, like Pop Trolls, these folks have ways of making the medicine taste more pleasant and easier to swallow, since the medicinal plants they grow would have very strong and unpleasant flavors (which would also indicate their effectiveness, but we'll talk about that another time). Also, after the union with the other tribes, they would have more medicine in other forms.

But since the great union had only happened so recently, their compatibility with Trolls of other species would still be tested. At least, the Techno medicine wouldn't have the same effect on a Rock Troll as it would on a Techno Troll, and in a dental case as delicate as John Dory's, it was safer for him to consume the traditional medicine.

Pure and unadulterated, because John Dory supposedly couldn't consume too much sugar because of his healing teeth. And most of the ways the Pop Trolls made their medicine more "consumable" required it to be sweetened in some way, so...

John almost threw up the first time he took his medicine.

Because the medicine he had to take was absolutely... GROSS. And JD had been lucky enough to eat some pretty awful things for the past 20 years, so he knew what he was talking about. He just couldn't stand that disgusting bitterness in his sore mouth and force himself to swallow, so he ran away. And his brothers had to catch him so he could finish the rest of his medicine.

Which was surprisingly difficult, because despite not being at his best, John Dory still fought them all. And he does it every day at the same time, every time it's his turn to take his meds. He always runs away and hides somewhere in the Bunker, which makes the rest of Brozone have to pick on his ass. The only one who's able to overcome John and make him swallow his meds is Branch, and he's usually not very gentle about it, so no one has a good time after that.

And yeah, Brozone was generally very surprised to see John just running and jumping around like he wasn't sick and wasn't, well, him. The guy has a bad back, a sore face, and he may not be the thinnest or most visibly fit of the brothers, but when John wants to, he's fast, strong, and agile. I mean, he somehow survived the Neverglades on his own. Of course, he's not completely useless at physical performance. Even if everything hurts.

So yeah, John taking his meds is quite an ordeal. But it's an ordeal the brothers are willing to go through just to keep their older brother healthy. And after John swallows the medicine, he's even more depressed and defeated by the foul taste in his mouth, which leads the rest of them to try to make him feel better.

And that's the lore. (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠).

So, I genuinely believe John Dory would be athletically skilled; he just has some back problems from old age or maybe other injuries he received, according to my headcannons. But I once saw some concept art of his design and read a note that mentioned John was stocky because he was strong, and well, I think that should have been something John could have kept. Sure, he wouldn't be as strong as Bruce, but he would certainly be one of the more muscular brothers, and I think, despite what we saw in the movie, the guy would have been able to lift Branch. Only he couldn't because, again, he has back problems. XD He was also (and still is) quite acrobatic, but once he got Rhonda, he started taking it easier and kind of relaxed when he no longer had to travel through trees and jump from one side to the other constantly, but he can still do a flip or two with a few stretches. On the other hand, I like the idea that Branch is by far THE most athletic of the brothers. So he can definitely outclass John easily.

But anyway, I hope you enjoyed this new post! (⁠✿⁠^⁠‿⁠^⁠). Like I said, I really liked how Bruce turned out in the drawing, especially since it's my first time drawing the man. It's also the first time (I think) I've drawn someone crouching and on top of something, as well as the first time I've done a profile face that doesn't look horrible. (⁠≧⁠▽⁠≦⁠).

I don't know, I think I'm using this series of doodles to experiment more with my drawing skills, and I think it's working. I'm doing things I don't normally do, and they're not coming out as bad as I feel they always do, which makes me really happy! ✧⁠◝⁠(⁠⁰⁠▿⁠⁰⁠)⁠◜⁠✧.

And if you were curious about the rest of the divisible text in the drawing, here are the translations and a little more Lore: the piece of paper says "I know you're the one stealing ice cream at night, John. Stop it. >:(". It's a note Branch wrote to John when he noticed some of the ice cream he kept in the freezer was disappearing and "apparently" no one knew about it. But Branch isn't stupid. He keeps careful records of his supplies, especially food, so of course he knows someone's been stealing the ice cream, and it's John. And yes, John Dory has been stealing the ice cream at night because he has trouble sleeping and ice cream is one of the few things that makes him feel better, so he sneaks into the freezer to steal some.

But don't worry, John isn't that stupid. He always makes sure to brush his teeth thoroughly every time because he doesn't feel like going back to the dentist soon, but his brothers aren't happy about him eating out of hours and so late at night either, so they're looking for a way to solve it.

For the rest, the other two little notes on the fridge are from Poppy and Viva. :) Each one says "Poppy was here. (⁠◠3◕⁠)" and "Viva too. (⁠ﾉ⁠◕⁠ヮ⁠◕⁠)⁠ﾉ⁠*⁠.⁠✧", respectively. And yes, I plan on drawing them in some future shot because I want to draw the girls. Also, I think it would be nice to see them trying to cheer JD up in his situation, I just can't think of what their scenes would be like yet. (⁠￣⁠ヘ⁠￣).

As always, I'll keep an eye on things.
