In 1909, the biologist Jakob von Uexküll noted that every animal exists in its own unique perceptual world — a smorgasbord of sights, smells, sounds and textures that it can sense but that other species might not. These stimuli defined what von Uexküll called the Umwelt — an animal’s bespoke sliver of reality. A tick’s Umwelt is limited to the touch of hair, the odor that emanates from skin and the heat of warm blood. A human’s Umwelt is far wider but doesn’t include the electric fields that sharks and platypuses are privy to, the infrared radiation that rattlesnakes and vampire bats track or the ultraviolet light that most sighted animals can see.

The Umwelt concept is one of the most profound and beautiful in biology. It tells us that the all-encompassing nature of our subjective experience is an illusion, and that we sense just a small fraction of what there is to sense. It hints at flickers of the magnificent in the mundane, and the extraordinary in the ordinary. And it is almost antidramatic: It reveals that frogs, snakes, ticks and other animals can be doing extraordinary things even when they seem to be doing nothing at all.

These 15" dolls were hand sculpted myself and then digitized for me , modded to work as a jointed figure and then printed. This edition was professionally cast in a translucent resin. just come across this screenshot again - one of most out of nowhere things kossai find during searches of glamourbomb communities !

if remember correctly , this was actually from larger glamourbombs community , which gain reputation for love-and-sparkles glitterbombs as community hit " mainstream " - glamourbombing was smaller community that stay truer to intents and faerie origin .

so needless to say this was very odd post out in that community - yes , original post really did suggest to spirit children away for fun and games !

human performance

kossai do not really feel shift is right word for experiences - faeriehood and traits thereof natural state , while things like language and social adaptations ... well , just that : adaptations to get through world that hold particular standards in these areas . 

while sometimes have experiences that others would name shifts , as in change of mental state , for kossai these experiences more so ... that those filters come down for some reason - maybe on purpose , maybe just run out of energy to maintain - and revert into more natural faeriehood . in these states , kossai can then recover from pressures of filters , and feel better connection with inner core .

therefore , think make sense to talk about and name these experiences in inverse too : that this unnatural state is human performance , and what lie at core is faerie nature . could also use this to talk about specific concepts and troubles : faerie social nature , human language performance , etc . theoretically could apply in any way , but may find overlap with phrases that already exist like work performance - might be good or bad , as depend on needs of conversation .

this might resonate more with fellow physical nonhumans than folks without physical or holotheric experiences - and obviously regardless of experience , if shifts already work fine to explain , that is great and no need to change . but maybe someone else have similar problems as kossai , and shift feel like inaccurate way to talk - that if anything , these experiences would be " human shift " , but even then have to specifically maintain state and follow set of rules … well , maybe idea of human performance framework is more fit .

Going through a transition right now. I was born a lycanthrope, my ancestors are lycans, I am physically a lycanthrope (and always will be, at least through an ancestral connection). But we've realized we need a different form, a different center. And that this different form has been staring us in the face for years.

We are a phoenix. Not the traditional kind, like your standard fire bird. More like a draconic fae raptor phoenix. But the core feature, of fire, death, and rebirth is there.

The phoenix identities ties much more into our cosmic purpose of being an Omen. And Omen of Death, and rebirth for those who choose it. The cyclical nature of existence. A symbol different to all those who lay eyes on it. A symbol of destruction, creation, life, rebirth, undeath, freedom, and more.

In a way, we're transspecies. We were always meant to be a phoenix. Our physical body is complicated. The original child was a lycanthrope due to their ancestry. We are changeling, but we weren't swapped with the child. We became a part of them to keep them alive, but we subsumed their original consciousness.

Because of this, we experience this constant liminal existence. Lycanthrope by ancestry, fae by birth. Wolf, phoenix. But phoenix is what we need more right now.

We'll always be a lycanthrope, its always there if we need it. But the lycan in us needs rest, respite, relief. Release from the constant rage and subjugation and trauma it has faced all these years. It needs rebirth. That's what being a phoenix means to us right now.

the trees you grew up with have not forgotten you. their branches still whisper your name in the breeze and their roots remember the paths your feet once traced through their shade.

Having a New Moon lycanthrope in our system means we experience different kinds of shifts during the dark moons. The transformations usually start in different parts of the body. Most of the time, our shifts start in the face, especially our teeth and muzzle.

The New Moon shifts start in our arms, the muscles get so heavy and achy, its like we're dragging limbs of lead.

Our current understanding of these lycans is that their abilities are actually powered by dark matter, and thus they are incredibly dense when shifted, having far more mass than should be present for their body size.

The connection to the New Moon is because the moon itself is a sort of prism for different kinds of magic. The full moon reflects the sun's light, transmutating it into lunar magic. The new moon is a result of the moon channeling dark matter in the absence of light.

Our new moon shifts are, in theory, more powerful in many ways, but we have yet to be able to harness the magic properly. It is much harder to control unless one completely turns away from the world of light.
