So I've decided after posting this next page (which I hope will get to you by this weekend), I'm taking a mini hiatus for the comic for like, 4-6ish weeks. It's a good place to pause without a cliffhanger I think.

I'll still be on here reblogging and talking and probably working on a side piece or two, but I really need a break to better structure where I want the next pages to go and get some solid roughs / concepting out before I get back to it.

I tend to really like my long term projects to have a solid backlog / safety net and I haven't been able to do that with school and life just being a wee bit hectic right now. A break will let me sit down and really sink my teeth into the comic and get a better foundation set in place without worrying about slapping up pages immediately...make me feel less like I'm flying by the seat of my pants 😅

This is a weird rant but I FINALLY figured out why it took me so long to accept Brock's mullet as attractive and why I still don't necessarily like his beard....it's because in the show style, especially earlier seasons, it looked so...artificial? Like a plastic cap of perfectly moulded hair you'd put on a Ken doll or something.

Irl even when natural hair has symmetry, it's really not. Up close, curls and waves are always different sizes, shapes. It's only when you start to style it down with gel and hairspray that you can get it to look 'perfectly symmetrical'.

Look at earlier seasons of Brock, particularly a "closeup" of his beard for example

Like....every circular bounce of his hair is basically the same size as each other, and they're almost perfect circles. It makes it look less like hair and more like a pattern. It gives it a sort of artificial, cookie cut style.

But THEN look at later seasons of Brock

Almost every circle is different in size and shape, and there's some ovals too. There's almost no symmetry to it, which makes it just look like natural hair. Which I prefer (and kudos for the artists to pick that up in later seasons too, it just really brings more life to him I think)

Anyways, thanks for coming to my TED Talk it just hit me as I was doodling Brock's beard this morning
