Was it the night he brought her tea before he went to bed, or when she brought him tea for breakfast?

Was it the day she did the dishes, or the one when she put away the laundry?

Was it the afternoon she met the trade delegation’s tour, or the morning when she made sure the boys had washed behind their ears?

Was it the morning he saw them cuddled in bed, fresh from lovemaking, or the deep night when they comforted him from his nightmares?

Was it the afternoon he set his shoes beside hers, or the morning she accidentally put his on?

Was it the weekend she kissed them goodbye before their trip, or the one when he kissed them as they departed?

Was it the night they stayed up, waiting for her, anxious for her safety, or the afternoon parade in recognition of her contributions?

Was it the time Rohan came running with tears only she could wipe away, or the time Kai sought out her advice?

Was it the first night he spent alone with her, or the first night they spent alone without him?

Was it the cuddles, or the kisses, or the sex, or the soup, or the tea, or the bandages, or the books?

Was it the first anniversary or the second?

Was it their sunset moment by the water, or the family dinner?

When had it crystalized for him, truly, deeply crystalized, that his old love for Lin and his long love for Pema had blended into this new thing? That he could love each of them and both of them, and create a life of beauty?

But then, he knew.

It was when his mother had woken, deep in the night, and made four cups of tea.

It had been when Kai and Jinora waited until they were all together before announcing their own plans.

It was when Ikki had curled up in Lin’s lap and fallen asleep.

It was when Meelo had lain across the foot of the bed so he could see all of them.

It was when Rohan had reached out so that he could hug both of them.

It was when Lin had carded her fingers through Pema’s hair for hours to comfort her sick wife.

It was when they had surprised him from opposite sides of the door when he came home.

It was when they made his favorite meal for his birthday.

It was when he saw them, dozing in each other’s arms by his hospital bed.

It was when Kya sat with them after the doctor left, and explained everything to them.

It was when Pema helped him catch Lin when she stumbled.

It was when Lin whispered that she saw blood on Pema’s kerchief.

It was when they sat together in peace to watch the moon rise.

It was when they sat together in silence to watch the sun rise.

It was when she kissed him.

It was when she kissed her.

It was every night.

It was every day.

Tenzin opened his eyes and drew in a gentle, slow breath. He stretched out his hands to touch the ground, but did not feel it below him.

He looked down, and saw himself floating gently a handspan above the sun-warmed marble.

And he smiled.

What’s in a Name: Earth Kingdom Pt. 4

This post only covers two episodes. Yeesh, the Earth Kingdom is massive.

Si Wong Desert - Death, 死亡 (Mandarin)

Professor Zei - Thief or deceitful, 贼 (Mandarin). While Zei himself displays neither of these traits, our heroes (mainly Sokka) utilize both deceit and thievery to discover “Day of Black Sun” at Wan Shi Tong’s library.

Wan Shi Tong - “He who knows ten thousand things”, 萬事通 (Mandarin)

Ghashiun (Appa Thief) - From Ghashiun Gobi or Salt Desert, an area in the Gobi (Mongolian). Considering his role in the story, it’s a very fitting name for him.

Sha-Mo (Ghashiun’s Father) - Desert, 沙漠 (Mandarin)

Hami Tribe - From Hami Desert, 哈密, a section of the Gobi Desert in China’s Xinjiang Autonomous Region. (Mandarin)

Fung (Iroh’s White Lotus Member Friend) - Male Phoenix, 凤 / 鳳 (Mandarin). The phoenix represents virtue, duty, and mercy in Chinese culture.

how do you hc young Pema? In your story or in general

Oh boy :)

I have a lot of hc for young Pema because I have an RP blog for her and I love her

Basically, she came from rough beginnings and no one in her family supported her decision to become an acolyte. I like to think of young Pema as quiet. Like, scary quiet. Like some of the acolytes think she's taken a vow of silence and are Shocked when she talks, quiet. She's very into reading. And being an Earth Kingdom girlie, she will tell you off if you deserve it. She's more inclined to stand up and protect other people than she is to protect herself.

The rest under the cut just because this post got long :)

She met a kind older woman named Koshe at the Northern Air Temple and they became inseparable. Koshe sees Pema as the daughter she never had, and Pema sees Koshe as the mother she wished she had.

Once the elder acolytes see her interacting with children, boom, she gets sent from doing an archiving job at the Northern Air Temple to Air Temple Island to teach the kids who were either born into being acolytes or brought with their families when their parents converted.

Pema's personality is slow to show itself, but once she breaks free from the things that hold her back, she's brilliant. She is smart and funny and kind-hearted. The children all love "Miss Pema" and she loves them too. She knows every kid's name, birthday, and favorite food and always tries to get them a small gift on their birthdays.

Tenzin hates that Pema and Koshe are always together because they're always doing things that make his life slightly more difficult. They're late for the ferry when they go to and from the city. They giggle during morning meditation. They encourage the kids to play with their food at meal times. He tried to get Koshe sent back to the Northern Air Temple, and Pema resigned as the schoolteacher. The kids and parents went ballistic. A few hours later Pema had her job back and Koshe was no longer leaving :)
