i think one of the most interesting and perhaps complex aspects of shadow is how the lyrics and music video tie in with and almost echo things that the guys have said before re: their stage personas vs. who they are in their every day lives. how hobi has said that he feels more like j-hope in his personal life than jung hoseok, how namjoon has said that he doesn’t have time to live as kim namjoon. how both of these personas occupy the same body, but it becomes hard to distinguish who is who and which is which – where does suga end and yoongi begin and vice versa (yes i’m you, you’re me, now do you know / we are one body, sometimes we will clash.) how the shadow is always there and it isn’t going anywhere, but that in and of itself has implications. it’s just a very interesting and honestly deep approach and i can’t thank yoongi enough for giving us this to kick off what i suspect will be one of their deepest and most telling albums to date.

i’m stupefied rn. not expect to be the intro that dark. like, the visual mv give me nauseousness as it is intended and now i feel so sad. i can’t imagine how the member can cope lens shoving on their face EVERYDAY :( but that is the price for their fame. because “the brighter the light, the darker the shadow”

But your pain is my pain. When I realized that, I vowed to myself, with the wings of Icarus you gave me. Not toward the sun but toward you. Let me fly...
