Check out this crazy cool art by @sentrock on this "Guava Gose." Also a peek at what I'm re-reading (after a few years). "... futures are not a destination... But a medium to aid in imaginative thought...." Yes please. (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CTGEAtWnqf2S87H1afXaI9cv5_loJnw8SnWHtM0/?utm_medium=tumblr

11 months ago I joined this incredible group of designers, thinkers, illustrators, media producers, UX designers, project managers, graphic designers, content developers, comrades and friends. I miss my Smithsonian crew every day, but I consider joining G&A to be the best decision I made in 2020. I am grateful to be surrounded by and part of the spark that is G&A. #Repost @g.ampersand.a (@get_repost) ・・・ Wrapping up the year with a new drop of sizzle. Thanks to everyone involved in all the positives we experienced in 2020. Link in bio. #design #innovation https://www.instagram.com/p/CI7AvoTBeBjLaObr1CoXdNT4MMYz2tUApe9sa80/?igshid=1kgz5t6vk1r6e

Sorry to the car enthusiasts, for focusing more on the plinth details than the cars themselves, but the design of the exhibit elements at the Porsche museum is one of the best I’ve ever seen. From the angle of the plinths carried throughout as a consistent design language, the detail of the movable graphic lecterns embedded in the etched stainless steel rail, to the lighting cleverly hidden in the ceiling. Not to mention the large curved LED screen behind translucent white Corian that transforms the backdrop into a raceway track.
Note regarding the content: the minimalistic interpretive approach helps the clean design, and it worked for me, with only a few graphic panels, and clever audio-visual and digital interactive components (engineers in the making as my son loved it, and I finally understood how a Turbo works ;). The story focuses on the cars and Porsche’s engineering achievements. A known criticism is the shy coverage of the involvement of Ferdinand Porsche’s engineering office founded in 1931 with the National Socialism until the end of WWII. Especially in these challenging times, learning from our mistakes and making sure history doesn’t repeat itself seems utterly important and something that should be more present, at least in the backdrop of the overall story (something that the nearby Mercedes museum does very well).
Rating: Overall design 9.5/10 Interpretation/storyline: 7/10 Audio-guide: 8/10 Digital interactives: 8/10 Artifacts: 9/10 (although unfortunately I don’t fit in those super cars ;)
What the numbers mean: 10: otherworldly 9: exceptional 8: very good 7: good but lacking something 6: okay… 5 and under: :(

Hellz yeah. @amhistorymuseum is the first @smithsonian museum to work with @ofbyforall. Looking forward to building on successes in organizational change that we have started, and pushing the boundaries of what a governmental institution museum can do to become Of By and For the People. Perfect timing for @ninaksimon to introduce her methodology in Washington DC on the heels of #juneteenth, during the @_bythepeople_ arts celebration, and as the museum opens our small exhibition about the legacy of #stonewall50 called Illegal To Be You. Big respect to our incredible new Director @anthea_hartig_ for bringing Nina to help make change.
