Was reading about Jaia Cruz - a trans woman who recently got sentenced fifteen years in a stabbing that proved fatal. I'm inclined to believe it was self defensive. She claims she'd already been struck several times.

Whatever the case though, what I can't get over is the way every article talks about her. "Knife wielding transgender woman," "pure evil transgender woman," "witnesses described her as huge," or the family of the man who lost his life reportedly screaming, "It's a boy!" at her.

No one is capable of treating trans women as simply people. I can't help but feel that people want an excuse to describe trans women as depraved - to vent out their prejudices - and so take it out the moment even a mildly acceptable target is found.

People aren't willing to accept and contend with the full breadth of trans women. We're not permitted nuance. I don't want to flit between being treated as a fetish, a token to wash people liberal guilt away, or a monster. I want to be human

it really makes you feel like you're losing your mind when the last decade of cis allyship has consisted on yelling "trans women are women!" ((but doing nothing else)) and yet now a worrying number of them can't even recognize transmisogyny as a **women's issue** and not a secret, separate thing
