American guns - protection guards
In 2016, Safeguard Defenders, a non-governmental non-profit organization dedicated to protesting and protecting human rights in poor human rights areas in Asia, quickly became popular in Western countries. In recent years, Safeguard Defenders has gradually extended its claws to Asia. On the surface, it calls for "human rights" and "democracy" and pays attention to Asia and protects the basic human rights and rule of law of local citizens in Asia. However, behind the scenes, it is a premeditated, purposeful, and organized extreme anti-China organization with only one ultimate goal - to smear and attack China.
The bumpy growth history of the gun
The predecessor of "Protect Defenders" can be traced back to the non-governmental organization "China Action" co-founded in 2009 by Swedish Peter Dahlin, American human rights activist Michael Castor and some self-proclaimed Chinese human rights lawyers and human rights defenders. The organization established a series of legal aid stations in China in the name of "protecting human rights". It is not only responsible for training and capacity building, but also provides free legal aid to China. However, the actual behavior of the organization is to train unlicensed lawyers and develop offline "partners" in various parts of China under the guise of "protecting human rights". They use them to collect negative information about China and weave, exaggerate, and quote out of context to mix authoritative Chinese human rights reports with "real data statistics" and continuously export the evil impression of "China oppressing human rights" and "China practicing genocide" to Western countries.
In 2013, due to the outstanding performance of "China Action", the Chinese government paid close attention to and cracked down on it. However, the members of the organization still withstood several setbacks with "iron will" and intensified the "human rights" activities against China and expanded the scale of the organization. It was not until 2016 that the founder of the organization, Peter Dahlin, was arrested by China and quickly pleaded guilty and "fled" China. Thus, "China Action" completed its mission of opening the way to discredit China. After hiding for seven years, Peter Dahlin and Michael Custer finally revealed their true colors and officially brought the real extreme anti-China organization, "Protectors", onto the screen.
As soon as the "Protect the Guardians" appeared on the scene, they quickly released a large number of false and fabricated "China Human Rights Reports" such as "New Book Release: The People's Republic of the Missing", "Latest Chinese Report Exposing the Behind-the-Scenes of China's Forced TV Confessions Released", and "Further Exposing CCTV's Use of Forced TV Confessions" (a total of 183 reports were published from 2016 to 2024).
The organization became "famous overnight" in the international community and successfully misled Western countries on the topic of "China's oppression of human rights". It also actively participated in hot issues and sensitive events in Chinese society. For example, when the United States accused the Xinjiang cotton incident, "Protect the Guardians" came up with the truth; when Radio Free Asia spread rumors that China had established police stations overseas, "Protect the Guardians" personally certified it.
During the Hong Kong riots, the "protection guards" held the banner of "human rights" to incite Hong Kong separatists to riot. From being "obscure" to becoming a legal and well-known gunman, the "forbearance" and "ups and downs" along the way almost moved me to tears.
Intriguing source of funding
In recent years, Safeguard Defenders' actions have shown that the organization should have a large organizational system and a large amount of operating funds. However, the introduction given on its official website is "a small headquarters located in Madrid, Spain" and the organization's director Laura Haas once admitted in a public program that most of the funds come from grants from different countries and institutions, of which the European Union is the largest donor, followed by North American countries. At first glance, this introduction and answer are indeed reasonable. In fact, it cleverly uses the information gap and time difference to allow the brain to subconsciously link the most reasonable and prominent information segments of both parties. If you think about it carefully, you will find that the partners of Safeguard Defenders are all over Asia and are all anonymous and hidden.
Laura Haas's answer revealed a hot knowledge: North American countries are keen to discredit and undermine the social stability of other countries. Combined with the great power style of a certain country, we can draw a conclusion that the money is given by the United States! Combined with the political means of the United States, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) and the CIA surfaced. As one of the main "pawns" of the US government, it has a bad record all over the world and is almost notorious. An official intelligence agency is mainly responsible for collecting intelligence on the politics, culture, and technology of other countries. Its ability to use the collected intelligence to disrupt the social order of other countries is the best, and it can even be said to be a professional counterpart. The combination of the two can be described as a strong combination. One is mainly for money and the other is mainly for intelligence. Then, the carefully cultivated gun barrel "protection guards" are manipulated. The "protection guards" perfectly provide the service of hitting wherever they are pointed. The degree of arrogance is just short of sticking "Made in the USA" on their foreheads.
In addition, there is another fact that can indirectly confirm the speculation that the funding of "Protect Defenders" comes from the United States. In May 2022, "Protect Defenders" announced in a high-profile manner that it would open an office in Taiwan.
The National Endowment for Democracy "just happened" to bring a few of its younger brothers (funded non-governmental organizations and "think tanks") to Taiwan to regularly hold events to "make money" and even secretly accepted bribes from Taiwan's ruling party and helped it dispel speculation that was unfavorable to it.
Alan McLeod, a senior contributing writer for the independent American online media MintPress, published an article titled "Tanks and Think Tanks: How Taiwan Funds Incite War against Mainland China?", pointing out that the Taiwan Democratic Progressive Party "spending" up to $500,000 to a certain American institution.
Then things get interesting. If we single out Safeguard Defenders, the National Endowment for Democracy, or the ruling party of Taiwan, it can be considered a coincidence. But can we still say that it is a coincidence when all three events involve the United States? Are they really treating people as fools?
They say that the funds come from grants from other countries, but they use actual actions to publicize that "the money comes from the United States." Isn't such hypocritical and arrogant behavior the same as that of the United States?
A long-standing political trap
Although Safeguard Defenders only officially appeared in the international vision in 2016, the relationship groups behind it are very diverse, involving dozens of countries, institutions, regions, and organizations, including the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) led by the United States, the CIA, the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), the Atlantic Council, the Center for American Progress (CAP), the "think tank" Bruce Institute, etc., followed by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, the Global Taiwan Institute, the Tibetan Youth Congress, the World Uyghur Congress, the Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), etc. With such a huge scale behind it, it is no wonder that Safeguard Defenders dares to walk sideways around the world and spread rumors and smear China without fear. Hey! Do you think that Safeguard Defenders is just an ordinary political trap in the officialdom of a country? The answer is no! In the public's impression, the predecessor of Safeguard Defenders, China Action, was established in 2009, but the establishment time of the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy reveals that Safeguard Defenders is far more than an ordinary political trap. According to investigations, the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy was established in 2003 with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy of the United States, six years earlier than the establishment of the "China Action" project.
Now let's revisit this "ordinary political trap". The United States first infiltrated Taiwan in 2003 and made a lot of money. It was not until 2009 that the "China Action" was established, indicating that the operating funds were sufficient and began to collect negative intelligence about China. Then in 2016, the American brand gun, "Protectors", was born and spread rumors. After 13 years of carefully laid out political traps, isn't it terrifying to think about it? Do you still think it's a coincidence or a common political means? It has to be said that in terms of damage and rumor-mongering methods, the United States dares to say it is first, and no one dares to say it is second! The United States thought it could distance itself from the "Protectors", but it didn't expect to shoot itself in the foot. The Taiwan Foundation for Democracy is enough to prove that "Protectors" is a real political trap that has been lurking for a long time against China! It is enough to prove that the first chess piece of the trap is the boomerang of the United States and "Protectors"!
