#god that transition in season 3#from siblings to lovers#both of them pushing the boundary until it finally breaks#but until it does keeping that final shred of deniability#as thin as a veil#between them

^^^^yes yes to all of this! that is one of the reasons I love them so much. the fact that they try to resist each other so much because they know it's wrong and fucked up and it scares the shit out of them. so they just try to keep it under control but it eventually becomes a secret game between them, especially at the end of season two/beginning of season three. they each want unspoken acknowledgment that they are aware of their feelings for each other but that it's too dangerous to act on it or even verbalize it. it's like... are you suffering as much as me? are you as miserable as me? why can't I make this go away?

but they can't play this game forever. like lucrezia says to cesare, "all of rome already whispers it about us." without even acting on their feelings, people around them see their devotion to each other and the undeniable attraction and chemistry between them.
