I think being autistic has made me realize how extremely hostile the environments we have designed are. Any conspiracy theory about people going missing in National Parks is automatically silly to me. Like "Why are National Parks such a hotbed of disappearances???" because they're full of idiots. You've got thousands of people who've never pissed outdoors in their life wandering around the woods/desert/mountain with zero experience and zero gear and zero understanding that this place can kill them. You don't see as many disappearances in wild areas because people don't go to them unless they have some background knowledge. Whereas you get tour buses full of old folks and suburban families shuttling people into National Parks 365 days a year. If you took the same amount of buffoons and dropped them in the actual wilderness the disappearances would be significantly higher than at the parks. Use your brain.

i do wonder why the common fan depiction of the drain seems to be caverns... i personally always imagined it as a foggy archipelago, given that it's the space between earth and the grove and you get from earth to the grove by boat. i picture it with an eerie sense of stillness.... shrouded in endless night... you can't see the stars because of the fog... houses are few and far between, so there's no real sense of community, everyone just sorta keeps to themselves.... probably surrounded by big badass storms or something and that's why it's really hard to get in or out. sort of a bermuda triangle situation or something. hector probably had to do some badass sailing in order to get out along with the og bizzyboys.

however that doesn't mean i don't enjoy the cavern interpretation. for one, it would give an in-universe reason for why the bizzyboys are so short: if their species' natural habitat is caves, then it would make sense. i also really like imagining the drain as a zaun-style wretched hive. it's sort of the opposite end of the spectrum. the loneliness of existing in a sparse population vs. the loneliness of existing in a crowd.
