Possum has had her first molt in my care, and she's confirmed to be a lady!
I noticed her on her back (1st image) at 3pm, and she was done and resting by 4:30! In true Possum style, she chose the most visible place in her enclosure, so we sat and watched her nearly the entire time. I feel SO lucky that she decided to molt on my day off and that I happened to take a glance at her just as she was starting.
It was SUCH an incredibly beautiful and unreal process to watch 😭 She came out unscathed and is now recuperating in her hide.

Pâte is building a web! They spent about half an hour this evening spinning away while I played a game and got increasingly distracted, waddling over to their enclosure every few minutes to watch them wiggling their little butt as they worked
#im going to be so sad when i inevitably have to disturb their web either from rehoming/fishing out uneaten prey#raising pâté#pink toe tarantula#tarantulas#tarantula keeping#this pic was taken this afternoon so its gotten even bigger!#T: Pâté

After years of observing these caddisfly larvae, French naturalist and artist, Hubert Duprat, wondered if the caddis flies would use any materials to build their cocoon. He introduced flakes of gold, pearls and opals to the caddis flies and they did in fact use them for their cocoons. They use their own silk as the glue to hold their pupal constructions together.

glimpse into my beautiful imaginary world where arthropods are really big and we domesticated them
edit: people are starting to say some "my worst nightmare" or "eeeww no that one is yucky and scary" comments on this like they do on any bug post and id like to say. it's fine if you don't like bugs it's fine if you're scared of bugs but don't put that on MY post clearly talking about how much i like them and how cute i think they are. you can make your own damn post about how much you hate wasps or spiders or whatever. i'm blocking people who make these kinds of comments.
#christening my bug sideblog with one of my favorite posts of all time#this is truly my utopia#we were watching a video about prehistoric insects the other day and i was rlly just thinking about it like....wow......#centipede dog......<3#art

I finally made a sideblog for critters! 👋
I'm Matt, I'm a 24 year old bug lovin' guy in the midwest. Here I'll share pics of invertebrate pets and wild crawly finds, as well as reblogging bug related posts, especially art :)
Current critters:
Avicularia avicularia (pink toe tarantula)

Pâté
Pink toe sling! Unsexed. Spends most of their time curled up in their web and stressing me out by avoiding food.
Brachypelma albiceps (Mexican golden red rump tarantula)

Possum
(4/4/2025 — her first molt with me, and she's a girl!!) A very confident young lady who doesn't get spooked super easily and spends lots of time by her water bowl.
