dawn summers is also a contender for character of all time. she's an eldritch horror stuffed into the body of a teenage girl. she's six months old. she's older than time. she's fourteen. she talks shit to the faces of the forces of darkness. she speaks sumerian. she killed her first kiss with a pencil. her best friend is a punk vampire that simps over her big sister. she writes about the horrors in her diary. she has done necromancy. she's a kleptomaniac. her favorite sandwich is salami with peanut butter. she was willing to sacrifice her life to save the world at fourteen years old. she became her sister's watcher when the original watcher abandoned them. she's extraordinary.

i need to talk about oz wearing xander's 25 cent peep show t shirt in season 3 episode 1 ("anne"). this is the biggest mystery of what went down in summer '98 is how did oz end up borrowing this shirt.

"buffyverse vampire lore makes no sense" wrong! you just gotta assume that 1. every single thing angel says about how vampires work is a big fat lie/just him being dramatic and 2. that the watchers council either doesn't know what they're talking about or are being intentionally misleading for the sake of getting the slayer to do her job how they want her to. everything else is actually pretty consistent

one thing i think casual views of btvs tend to miss is that buffy's depression is a constant throughout the show. so often i see in reviews that season 6 is where buffy's depression either begins or gets debilitating but that's not it at all! she's depressed when she learns she has to die in season 1, she's depressed when she runs away at the end of season two, she's depressed when angel's resurrected and when joyce dies and when glory takes dawn. buffy was depressed long before she jumped off the tower, yet it seems as though a lot of people think that being brought back to life is what brought these feelings on. it's just that before this - she was functioning. there was so much happening that she literally didn't have time to think about her own feelings, there was always some evil to fight, and the need to put the safety of others above her own mental state. it's no coincidence that when we do meaningfully acknowledge her depression in season 6, it's when the trio aren't even a real threat until the latter half of the season. it's the same with her other low moments: her spiral after dawn gets taken is when glory isn't actively after them anymore, when they have a moment to regroup. fleeing to LA comes after season two, when the threats have been defeated. when buffy gets a chance to breathe, she can't avoid her issues anymore. being resurrected is just the trigger for this bout of depression, the reason we see it so much in s6 is because she has nothing to do to avoid it. depression is a huge part of her character and i wish more people acknowledged that.
