Hey there!!
Well this is probably gonna be a long post, but hi! My name is Carlos and this is my tumblr dedicated to architecture and design, as well as my own projects. I feel like I need to readdress that even though I post occasionally, but I’m going to tell you how I got this far, and what’s next.
Ever since I was little, I love how buildings are used and designed in a way that people can live and thrive within it; and so I build and design my own buildings out of toys. I built whatever my hands could reach, whether it be legos as bricks, laying down markers as fences, and cutting paper squares to represent doors and windows. I occasionally built an entire mini city made out of lego in my room and my parents would always scold me for making a huge mess afterwards. It was fun! It was sorta like my getaway from the world. Having myself to design and actually build a structure to appreciate it afterwards makes me feel good. A lot of times, the buildings I try to build were schools. I don’t know, I just somehow like the formation and functionality of a school (my weird obsession).
Fast forward to elementary and freshman year of high school, I wanted to become an artist because I also love drawing. At that time I was obsessed with video game characters and Pokemon, and so I try to draw them. Later, I tried different shading techniques and drew a lot of still life drawings. It was a fun activity for me. But I’ve noticed that something was missing. I couldn’t figure it out. I was in grade 10 transitioning to grade 11, and I felt like none of the stuff that I did made sense. I thought of it and I realized that I sorta missed my days of designing and building and having fun. That is when I discovered the occupation of architecture. After that, junior and senior years were focused on my career as an architect and I shifted from artsy drawings, to more perspective proportional drawings.
Now I didn’t want to pursue a bachelors at that time, but rather go to college and study the Technician program first which is 2 years. I have successfully completed that part of it, and now I am going back to study interior design technology.
Thinking about it, designing and building can never be truly successful without a drawing. It is why there are blueprints and floor plans, and maps. To me, architecture fulfills my desire to draw, and then to build. Whenever I’m down or bored there are two things that I do..one is play video games or go on YouTube and watch, (don’t judge) the second is to sketch buildings and see the final result by drawing it in Revit or CAD. Having an interest in architecture always reminds me of where I started when I was little, playing the role of an architect.
So now what? Well after I finish this 3 year interior tech program, I’m planning to take 2 more years for architectural technology (NOTE: there is a difference between technician and technologist) and possibly get a license to become an architectural technologist. OR I could enroll into university to get a bachelors, and possibly my masters in order to be licensed as an architect in Ontario.
As you can see, I’m trying not to close any doors on this one. Only problem is that it will take as many more years the more I continue my education. As for this Tumblr, expect to get many more posts about design and architecture! Thanks for reading!!
