What color are your panties?
"Wh-what?" Mei stammered. "Gee, Mr. Gray-face, you really take TMI seriously, don't ya?" Yeah, she was stalling with meaningless conversation. Who wouldn't with such an embarrassing question? She wasn't exactly the type of girl to go around letting people know that sort of thing, but this was some sort of important event for the Gray-faces right?
Leaning forward, she cupped the side of her mouth and whispered so that no one else could hear. "Pink."

Mei's smile widened when the boy offered her his hand to shake. Setting down her chopsticks, she eagerly took it and while looking him in the eyes, said, "Bugsy from Johto! Alright!" Bugsy seemed bashful, but perhaps that was just an instinctive reaction to having someone so hyper barge in on one's lunch. It didn't matter much to her either way. "Oh yeah! Of course I'm gonna battle! I came here once before when I was stopping through on my journey. Now that it's over, I wanted to see how much I'd improved!"
Releasing the Johto boy's hand, she picked her chopsticks back up and looked around the cafeteria. It was still packed full of people, but now that she knew someone from another region was here, she started to wonder how many of the strangely-dressed people she'd seen were from other regions too. "I didn't expect to see anyone who wasn't from Unova, though," she said in a daze. "I guess Clay's project is getting really popular!" Mei's excitement was a potential indicator that she was oblivious to the heightened challenge.
Or perhaps she was just that confident.
Not being the type to be worried for too long, she grabbed another scoop of lo mein with the chopsticks and stuffed it in her mouth. The food was so good, it was hard to do anything else but focus on shoveling it down. For a couple minutes, she did exactly that. Mei didn't even know if she was being rude or not, but when the silence grew uncomfortable enough, she wiped her lips off with a napkin and turned her head to give another friendly smile at Bugsy.
"So you're a Gym Leader, huh?" she asked rhetorically. "What kind of Pokemon do you specia--" Her cheeks instantly turned red when she mentally managed to put all the clues together. Putting a hand to her forehead she began laughing at herself a bit. "Oh wow," she interjected between giggles. "I'm really slow today! I guess the bug catching net over there should've spelled it out for me! Bug-types right?" The brunette continued to laugh at herself a minute longer before she put the hand from her forehead to her chest. "So sorry, I'm usually not this dumb" Her smile was wide and sincere and her eyes had lit up again; whether from her humor or from the tears that had welled up during her laughter, it was hard to be certain.
Musical Chairs and Cafeterias, NO || Mei x Bugsy
At first, Bugsy had been excited about participating in the Pokemon World Tournament. He’d taken much time to prepare in battling and performing in front of a large audience, and he felt ready (enough) to make through at least a few rounds. However, now that he’d finally arrived in Driftveil City, his stomach was filled with Butterfree, and seeing the huge amount of people was NOT helping. Regardless, he was starving and desperately needed food.
After shakily ordering a Bouffalant burger and fries, he looked around the PWT cafeteria for somewhere to sit, preferring not to be crowded in by all of the noise. That’s when he saw it - a free table! How did he get so lucky? The young Gym Leader had just taken a bite of his burger when his luck ran out, as a young bun-haired girl arrived and chose to sit right next to him. An eager smile graced her face and her eyes were bright and friendly in appearance. Bugsy looked at the girl with a confused look, but couldn’t deny that…she was a pretty cute girl!

Upon her introduction, he placed down his food and wiped his hands on his green shorts, offering a hand to her in order to at least display a sense of kindness. “H-hello, Mei,” he said, his tone becoming happier from the positivity that seemed to exude from her, “I’m Bugsy - I’m a Gym Leader from Johto. It’s a pleasure~. I suppose you’re here to battle?”
Bugsy’s heart-rate slowed a bit, becoming happier to have made a new acquaintance. He decided it was a lot better than wondering around in a new region all by himself, hardly recognizing any of the other trainers apart from some older Gym Leaders. Perhaps this day wouldn’t be so anxiety-ridden after all!

Musical Chairs and Cafeterias, NO || Mei x Bugsy
Getting her food had been the easy part. Yeah, she'd had to settle for her second choice due to a really long line, but she had no problems with a plate covered in pork lo mein. The difficult part was going to be finding a place to sit and eat it. For all the Pokemon World Tournament's size, they had grossly under-planned the number of tables and chairs required to seat the massive amount of people coming into the food court. Mei looked one way then the next, but she saw nothing but heads around every table. With a small pout, the trainer slowly walked into the ocean of tables, hoping if she got closer up she might find something.
No such luck. Mei frowned, afraid that by the time she got to eat, her food would be cold already. For a moment she considered just eating while standing up, but the very thought made her knees hurt. The trainer sighed and moved on. Her stomach growled at her and she could've sworn that the people around her turned to look at her when they heard it, but she didn't stop looking. At the very least, someone would have to get up soon, right? Look at the silver lining, girl!
Then she saw it. The table wasn't empty, but there were three open seats next to the young boy. He certainly seemed the interesting type. There was a net leaning against the post behind him and he was dressed in a jovial sort of green. They seemed like great spring colors. Excited to finally get to sit down and eat, Mei thought nothing of walking up to the table at a brisk pace and sitting down right next to him with her tray as if to say 'MY SEAT, BACK OFF!' Yet outwardly, she only giggled and smiled at the younger boy.
"Hi!" she announced to him cheerfully. "Sorry, hope you don't mind if I sit here. I've been looking all over this place for somewhere to sit down and I'm starving!" Mei quickly slid the wooden chopsticks out of their sleeve and took a bite of the warm noodles. Her eyes almost rolled back in her head they were so good and she made a soft sound of contentment. Catching herself before she continued, she turned and looked at the boy once more. "Oh, I almost forgot! My name's Mei, nice to meet ya!" Her face lit up with a smile due to meeting a new person, one she wholeheartedly believed was going to be her friend in ten seconds flat.

Mei let one of her legs fall straight on the bed and looked at him. This was definitely odd behavior for him. Or maybe this was normal behavior for him and the first impression was odd. Maybe both were entirely odd and she still hadn't seen the real Touya. Maybe his name wasn't Touya at all!

Regardless, she smiled at the generous offer. She only took a couple more berries before he returned to his bed and sat the pouch on the floor, as if to say "feel free." She popped one of them into her mouth and daintily chewed on it. Another relatively tart berry. His Pokemon must be very fond of sour tastes, just like she was. She offered the other one to Oshawott, but he waved it off, still in bliss from the first one. She giggled lightly at him and ate it instead. "If I had known it was so easy to feed you with berries, Showaa, I'd have started doing that a long time ago!" He nodded happily in response.
Well, that was easily settled.
She considered trying to talk to the boy across the room, but she worried that he'd start trying to read into her words again. Taking things at face value was something he must dislike trying to do. Maybe that's an attribute of strong trainers. Still, it was frustrating when she was just wanting to make friendly conversation.
What could she possibly talk about that wouldn't cause any issues? The weather? That'd just make him call her awkward again. Besides, it's not like they were outside anyway. She didn't want to talk about herself, that'd just make her look conceited. If she asked too many questions about him, wouldn't he just think she was creepy again? She certainly wasn't about to offer her opinions on String Theory.
There remained only a few options; ask him when he thought they'd realize that they were locked in this room or compliment his Serperior. The last one seemed like the best option to her, it seemed to leave the least amount of room for sarcasm.
"Um," she started, timidly. "Your Snivy looked really strong. I bet you've been raising..." she paused. Great, how was she going to look nice and polite when she couldn't even remember what gender it was?! "Him? for a long time.." Fifty percent chance she got that right. Maybe her luck was on her side again. She sure hoped so, she didn't want to get yelled at again.

It didn't take her very long before Mei was already starting to have the preliminary images of dreams. She imagined her and Oshawott back in Castelia City with two casteliacones walking towards the Gym. There were a lot of people dancing in the streets, which for some reason wasn't that strange to the natives. She was smiling as a harlequin waddled into the middle of the street and started juggling things for her. The man in the bright-colored clothes leaned forward and said, "Berries?" She blinked for a moment, and where he had been juggling pins, he was now juggling berries. That was weird.
Then she realized that she was in a bed and there was someone standing behind her. "Oh," she muttered quietly. The offer for berries had come from Touya, she realized as she slowly turned over. He extended the pouch towards her as she rubbed her eyes. "Um, thanks." She blushed a bit at the, what she considered to be, uncharacteristic generosity. Slowly, she reached her hand up and picked a few out of his pouch. Timidly she stuck a couple in her mouth and chewed, offering a third one to her sleepy Oshawott. It tasted very sweet, with a hint of sour, and while it wasn't as filling as a meal, it certainly felt good to have some food in her stomach.

She smiled at him and made an "mmm" sound to show her appreciation for the offer. She wasn't sure what brought on this change, but she certainly didn't mind it. It was very nice of him and certainly seemed to be the turning point for her day.
"Thank you," she said quietly, trying not to cause anymore disagreements or misunderstandings. Those words and a smile were enough to show that she was okay, right? No need to clutter it up with too much else. Especially since it seemed like she had a tendency for saying the wrong things.
Even her Oshawott now was in bliss as he finished his berry and sat back rubbing his belly. Clearly it was more of a meal to him.
Mei wasn't sure why, maybe it was Touya's generosity, but something kept her from wanting to sleep the day away this time. She brought her knees to her chest and sat there, preening her fingernails. She didn't know what to expect anymore, but she at least had hope that it wouldn't necessarily be more yelling, fighting, and insulting this time. That was enough for her.
Maybe he was being serious about being friends.

“Opens.. inward..?”

Mei’s hopes were shattered. She stared at the door for a bit as Touya stepped away, making fun of her all the while. With a sigh, her arms fell limp at her sides. This was hopeless. She really wanted to cry at the way her day was turning out, suppressing a sniff. Pouting her way back to the bed, she quickly jumped in and curled up in a ball with Oshawott.
Why was he being so mean to her? She wished her friends were here in this predicament instead of him. He just seemed to want to make her feel bad. Sure, she wasn’t as experienced as him, but she was trying! Mei sighed mentally. What else was she supposed to do? Just shut up and let him do everything? Leave him alone to be the big bad trainer he was? She bet he’d like that. She sniffed again, frustrated at the nerve of the boy.
She heard Touya’s statement, but she wasn’t really paying that much attention. She half-heartedly tossed her hand up and made a gesture that she’d heard it. ”Yeah, alright,” was her only response. She was too busy making resolutions to herself. Like, if she ever became champion, she’d be nice to new trainers; if people don’t stop picking on her, she would stop trying to be nice; if she ever sees him again, she’ll turn around and go the opposite way. They all sounded like great ideas to her.
She wanted food and most of all, she wanted to get out of this nightmare. But for now she settled for sleep. If they ever found them and let them out, she was sure she would wake up. No better way to make the time pass than to dream. Maybe she would have good dreams. That made her smile at least. As a last moment thought, she remembered to take her hat off and throw lightly behind her onto the floor.

Waking at the sound of an obnoxious noise, Mei turned and rubbed the sleep out of her eyes to see Touya fighting the handle to the door. For a moment, she lay there wondering what silliness he was up to now or whether she was still asleep and having the strangest dream.
Oshawott could have slept through a stampede of Bouffalant.
After letting her eyes adjust and clearing the sleepy haze from them, she noticed that it was real. He was trying his best to turn the handle and open the door. Deciding not to say anything still, she checked her C-gear for the time. "WOAH!" she almost yelled. "I almost slept through din--!!"
Suddenly the light bulb clicked on.

"The door isn't opening?!" Her voice was high-pitched and panicky, about the only thing Oshawott couldn't sleep through. He woke up and repeated practically the same process as his trainer. Mei quickly turned around and picked up her hat.
"Oh no!" she whined. "This isn't good at all, I'm hungry!" Of course she wasn't thinking of any of the other repercussions of being stuck in that room until someone else noticed and let them out. If they ever did. No, she was thinking of food.
"Did that Nurse lock us in here?" she said, as if knowing the answer was going to do them any good. She rushed to the door, standing just out of Touya's way and watched, hoping to see that he was just kidding, or that eventually he'd get it to work. What was that definition of insanity again?
Oshawott sat on the bed, still confused and sleepy as he watched his trainer sprint towards the door, bouncing in some sort of excitement or panic. He didn't know, he was starting to think he was still dreaming as well.
That was it, Mei had come to the conclusion that this Pokemon Center was cursed. Ever since she had arrived in this place, it had been one problem after another. This boy was a complete bother, the Nurse seemed as if she wanted to murder them rather than accomodate them, and there was nothing but craziness and bad luck abound within these walls. She said a silent prayer that if she ever got out of this Pokemon Center, she'd never talk to another boy and from now on, she was going to be suspicious of all Nurses.
Whimpering quietly, she watched Touya struggle with the door some more. Then she had a desperate idea. "Hey, maybe we can kick it open!"

Mei blinked at him as he sat there, either oblivious to her apology and offer, unwilling to accept, or unsure of what to say. It was honestly kind of rude in her opinion. Was he trying to make her look like some kind of idiot? She had already apologized for calling him weird and even admitted that she can be awkward. What's going on here?!
After a while she raised an eyebrow at him and put her fists on her hips. "Well? Aren't you at least going to accept my apology? You don't have to be my friend if you don't want, I just figured that way you'd know me and not think that I was stalking you every time you saw me." She heaved a sigh and turned around to lie on the bed.
"Just forget it," she said, crossing her legs and finding a comfortable position before taking her hat off and letting it fall to the floor.
Oshawott frowned at the general occurrences, both Touya's mood, whatever that was, and Mei's having given up. The latter in particular was something he wasn't used to seeing. Perhaps this was part of the awkwardness that they spoke of, that she didn't feel like trying to hard to get people to understand her. It hurt his head to think about it too much, but he decided that had to be it. Confident that he understand what was going on, he closed his eyes. She'd be better in a while, right?
Mei had resigned herself to sleeping until dinner. It was clear that no amount of arguing or persuading was going to get him to think any better of her, and all the talking was making her thirsty.

After a while, she almost considered foregoing dinner. The bed was strangely comfortable. Better than she had become accustomed to. Her stomach disagreed that it was worth that much, but she didn't really know what she felt like doing. Darn boy had to go and ruin this day with his talking. If she was so awkward, he could have just left her alone! What had she ever done to him?
Another sigh. There didn't seem to be a resolute answer here in any of this.

Hat.
Umm, I don't really like hats. I only wear the one I do because I spend so much time outside. If you saw my haircut underneath the hat you'd know why. There's a big crease down the center of my scalp because of the way I style my buns and if I didn't wear a hat, I'd have a huge tan stripe down the center of my scalp. And I don't even want to mention sunburn!
I think hats make people look silly. It's like, "Woo, I'm so cool, look at my hat." No, you look like a dork!

donuts
I didn't really like donuts when I was young, because I thought they were so plain. Little did I realize that it's only because my mom was getting the plain donuts! When I got older and got an allowance, I went to a store and totally saw the best thing of all time. Chocolate. Eclairs. To this day, they're my favorite treat. I could eat them all day long if I could afford them!

People who harass you about your hair.
People who harass me about my hair are really frustrating. I think most of them are from smaller villages, because anyone who knows anything would be aware that this is a well-loved hairstyle. Most girls just don't use it because it requires you to grow your hair out very long and it's a lot of work to fix it. They're annoying because they're like hair bigots or something. My hairstyle shows dedication! Besides, if you don't like my hair or think it's weird, don't you think it's rude to go out of your way to tell me about it? Like what are you, the fashion police? GRR!
