I was reading this post's comment section and saw people having an argument about who's the narrator of MDZS - I don't know the MDZS fandom very well but there seems to be a consensus that Wei Wuxian is the narrator of MDZS? To quote someone in the comment section, "although the flashbacks are narrated by an omniscient 3rd person, the present is narrated by WWX and everything stated as facts should be interpreted as his own thoughts." I'm not sure I agree because while WWX is the protagonist, he's not the narrator. I feel like Chinese novels and English novels are different in this aspect because readers of English novels are used to identifying fictional characters as narrators and attributing statements in the stories to certain characters' perspectives; but in Chinese novels, no single character needs to be the narrator, sometimes the author would just randomly insert their own opinions in the middle of a fictional character's point of view, and sometimes what people take to be a character's thoughts are really just the author's own voice.

I noticed this issue before in a post I saw about TGCF chapter 112. Chapter 112 contains the observation "in the future, there might be a heaven official who ascends while using the toilet, and that would be a sight to see", which the post takes to be Xie Lian's thoughts. I think the person who made the post assumed the observation is from Xie Lian's pov because they see Xie Lian as the narrator, but there's no indication that the line is from any character's perspective - in fact, it's just MXTX's own observation which she inserts into the plot and which intrudes on the characters' dialogues.

like honestly I feel like that is in the opposite of your favour?? I don't know. I don't know why ppl are so strongly adamant they look Nothing alike and if u think so, u lack Media Literacy. like I feel like yer just stretchin yer interpretation as truth when it can just as easily be used against your argument.

and also I think the fandom rides too much of what isn't said too much as concrete proof when honest to god? whether or not shen yuan looks like shen jiu is 100% up to interpretation. there is no concrete evidence for either. both arguments do rely on what isn't said, and what is said can be used and refuted to both. I'm just slightly annoyed by those who say they look nothing alike treat their opinion as if it's fact and everyone else is dumb.

so of course I've stumbled across gongzhi as it's the most predominant zhuzhi lang ship I have seen, and of course I really like zhuzhi lang if you couldn't tell. my favourite side character.

it perplexed me at first. didn't these people know? tags such as "I'm lookin away from canon" littered everywhere from in the main post to reblog tags let me know they did know. and yet most portray the two in a soft ooey gooey kind of romance. I wrote off the ship as not for me.

but then I wondered.... what if it was toxic? heated even. a different side to these characters. plays around the canon of zhuzhi lang most likely not even considerin gongyi xiao more than a spec of dust. righteous gongyi xiao that hates this awful demon.

yea that's the post. toxic gongzhi. I want it. send tweet.

In this case, a spoiler would mean any sorts of correction regarding what I've put in this comic: I know I'm wrong, this is the point of this serie.
