A December to remember

“Woah pretty boy, what you got there.” Derek chuckled as Spencer held a box with red wrapping paper crumbled in a pile next to him. He had spent months racking his brain around the perfect gift for his first Christmas with Reader and for someone with an IQ of 187, it still somehow felt like an almost impossible task. Spencer thought back to the moment they met, her chuckling to herself in the corner of a bookstore trying to decide on her next read for the month, the way her eyes lit up as she read the blurbs on each bound work of fiction drew Spencer in more than he ever had been to anyone before. Almost a year had passed since that moment and Spencer knew this gift would be something you could never forget. He decided on a beautifully simple gold heart locket necklace with one of your favorite quotes inscribed on the inside. Now the true challenge began- how would he wrap it? Spencer looked up at Morgan as he stood at his desk “Should I even wrap this? Wouldn’t a bag be better, or- or- maybe a box with a bow- is she even going to like this? I should just return it, maybe I should-“ “Woah Spencer, take a breath, she’ll love it. Now give me the box and let me work some Christmas magic.” Derek wrapped the gift and as he placed the last piece of tape spencer let out a sigh of relief. “It’ll be perfect kid, don’t worry about it, if I know Reader at all she would smile even if you gave her an empty cardboard box. This’ll definitely be better than that.”

*Five days later*

The entire BAU sat around Rossi’s kitchen table exchanging gifts with one another. Emily handed JJ a new pair of boots , Derek smiled as Penelope opened up a new coffee mug, and Rossi and Hotch exchanged a set of cigars. The only present left was the little red box Derek had helped Spencer wrap and his heart was pounding in his chest. As Reader sat across from him her face grew with joy “Oh Spence you didn’t have to get me anything. This already looks amazing.” Reader unwrapped the box with care and flipped open the top, her jaw dropped as she saw the gold heart at the center of the box. “Spencer this is so perfect I’m never going to take it off.” As she reached to hug him before putting the necklace around herself he stopped her for a moment. “Wait! It’s a locket open it!” She unclasped the heart and read the engraving out loud “In all the world, there is no heart for me like yours.-Maya Angelou” Tears welled in her eyes, “Spence this is better than anything I could’ve ever imagined! This is so beautiful!” She fell into his embrace and giddily turned around revealing her bare neck to him to help clasp the necklace. As she jumped off in excitement to show the other woman of the BAU Derek leaned over Spencer’s shoulder. “I told you she’d love it pretty boy.” “Yeah yeah you were right.” Spencer said as he rolled his eyes but no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t hide the smile across his lips as he looked on to see the most beautiful girl he had ever met, the love of his life in her element laughing, talking, and looking even more perfect with a little gold heart hanging from her neck.
