Another day was going by, too slow for your taste. You knew what you were waiting for, after all.
You looked out of the big window staring at all the seemingly busy people running up and down the street. They all seemed to have a purpose, somewhere to go or something to do. Well, it's good to know not everyone felt a bit lost like you did. Maybe there was hope for you, too.
Summer had gone by without you barely noticing it since you spent your days working in this coffee shop. The job was considerably time consuming and tiring, but you were always the working kind. There was always something to be done and staying still was not an option.
So, you resumed your task of mopping the floor. It was almost closing time and there was only you and your co-worker inside the shop. Yeun was putting everything back in its place, getting ready to count the money in the register and leaving the place herself.
"Y/N, you do know you can go home and I'll close up the shop, right?", she asked.
Of course, you thought. Technically you weren't needed this evening, or most other evening, but your mind had already drifted to the moment this day would get a thousand times brighter, warmer, happier if only you waited long enough.
"Yes, Yeun. But I'd feel bad knowing you would be here all alone getting everything ready for tomorrow."
Yeun rolled her eyes and sighed. "Honestly Y/N, is it because of him again?"
Warmth reached your cheeks, making you blush slightly. Well, it seemed like it's obvious. There's no point in denying it to her. She saw the same scenario almost every day after all.
And like destiny, it would happen again today.
You finished your task and went behind the counter to help Yeun finish whatever she still had to do. Just then, you hear the small doorbell ringing, annoucing the arrival of the embodiment of the sun himself.
Turning around, you felt your skin get warmer and warmer and you could swear you had turned red like a tomato and he would think you looked like an idiot just oggling him without any reason and...
"Good evening", he said shooting a bright, wide smile in your direction.
You heart skipped a beat or two. Or ten. There was no way to tell and you didn't mind one bit. Yeun had left you alone, going to check the storage room in the back. Gathering yourself, you replied a soft "good evening" and subconsciously placed a stripe of hair behind your ear.
Any person would point out how obviously attracted you were to this man.
He walked with certainty towards the counter, slightly freeing the long wool scarf that hugged his neck. Running a probably cold hand (that you would love to warm with yours) through his tousled auburn hair.
When he reached you, a heated cup was already in your hand, ready to make him the usual that he always ordered. Funny how this man had been a regular for more than two months and you still had no idea of his name. Seemed unfair that he could read yours in your nametag, but then again it was your fault that you were too shy to ask.
"How have you been, Y/N? Can I please get the usu-"
"Here it is, please enjoy it!" You say hurriedly as you give him the drink you've just prepared. He takes it, a renewed smile spreading in his face. After hesitating for what seemed like a solid minute, you added "I, huh, I have been fine, thank you for asking. How have you been, Mr...?"
"You can call me Hoseok." He handed you coins to pay for the drink, locking his eyes in yours. All he did was look at you, to find you already staring at him. Hoseok chuckled. "I actually feel bad this is the first time I'm introducing myself to you. I must have come off as rude."
Rude? Him? You were the one shamelessly staring into his brown eyes, not saying anything back, not even checking the coins and giving him his change. Given such evidence, you made an effort to begin functioning like a regular human being and looked down to your hands as you counted the change.
"No, you weren't rude at all." You smile shyly but reassuringly just in case he needed it.
"Well, Y/N, I hope you don't change your mind after I ask you this, but do you think I could buy you a coffee sometime? Or dinner you know, if you're particularly tired of hot beverages. I don't mean to impose, and feel free to turn me down, maybe I'm crossing a line here" Hoseok hesitated for a moment before continuing, "but I would love to take you out, if you also wished to."
If you thought you know what a non-beating heart felt like, this was a whole new experience. Your heart stopped, then restarted like a thousand volts had been charged into your body. After months of nurturing a crush on this man, he is finally asking you out. On the first day of Autumn, the season of change, you find out his name and he asks you out.
The prospect of holding his hand, gazing into his eyes, curiosity being saciated with each minute spent together entertain you to the point you almost forget to answer. Hoseok has an impenetrable expression on his face and you realise you're taking a minute too long to give him an answer.
"Yes! I'd love to."
Hoseok's face turned from indecipherable to a thrilled expression, You thought you'd be blinded by the sun if you stared for too long, so you lowered your eyes and once again you felt your cheeks burn like they were pure fireballs.
"Great!", he exclaimed, "then I will meet you here tomorrow at the same time. Sounds good?" You nodded. It sounded perfect. You permitted yourself one more look as he turned around on his heels and started walking towards the door.
"Then I'll see you tomorrow. Stay well, Y/N!"
"Stay well, Hoseok."
It had finally happened. You were going out for coffee, or dinner, with the man you had been crushing on for months. Hoseok made you daydream and wish you weren't so shy, but it seemed like things were slowly falling into place.
Hoseok, what a pretty name. A great name for a handsome man like him. It really was fitting, you thought...
Yeun's approving whistle coming from the storage room brought you back to reality. The warmth of your cheeks and the dreams in your mind had you conjure the biggest smile.
I'll see you tomorrow, Hoseok.
