I'm making a little video about 'Byler gates', and it's so fun to notice little parallels like this. This, for me, solidifies the idea that Mike hugging Karen Wheeler in Season 3 IS BECAUSE OF WILL, not because of Eleven (like some would claim). I mean, this is already backed up with the fact that we see a clip of a crying Will in a car the scene before this. But I think this parallel just fully confirms it.

We see Mike hug his mom three times. Two of these times are when it concerns Will (the other being when Eleven disappears in s1, which considering they were definitely being set up for romance in s1 kind of supports my point even more.) (I personally think Byler was decided on either during the filming of s2, or during the writing of s3.)

i genuinely can’t wrap my head around people hearing an explicit byler parallel - not like “look at the lighting” or “the CGI hearts in their eyes,” but things like “i say it” vs. “you didn’t have to” or the breakup mirror in season 3 and still walking away like, “but mike is straight.” like… why are you even in fandom culture if you get offended when people point out very obvious narrative choices? that’s literally the whole point of fandom.

it's the end of november. you just finished watching st5 vol 1. you just witnessed tons of new byler moments and it's obvious byler is going to be endgame. you saw the miwi flashback. the last episode ended on a cliffhanger and had you screaming crying throwing up. you go on byler tumblr and everyone is freaking out over all the new content we have to analyze. the tag is flooded with theories about vol 2 and new analyses of little details we didn't immediately notice bc we were too busy freaking out. this is the best moment in time to be on the internet and it will never happen again
