BATTLE OF THE BANDS, WEEK 2 ANNOUNCEMENT.

This week, due to capacity issues with the Degrassi gymnasium, battle will move outside this Friday starting at 1:00PM. Stage A and Stage B will be facing each other and the acts will rotate between A and B.

For example: Declan Guthrie may play on A and immediately after, Escape Pacific may play on B.

Also because Shelby sucks and has been MIA voting will be posted and begin tonight until sometime tomorrow to determine the roster for week 2.

Finally, this week’s challenge is a genre swap. So this week, at least one of the songs in your set must be a song from a different genre than what you already play, but transposed to your specific genre.

For instance: taking a country song and turning it into a rock song or vise versa.

DCS will be hosting their first annual Battle of the Bands starting on Friday July 27th at 7PM. Click the read more to find out more information and to see how to register!

Each Friday, for three weeks, each act (band or solo artist) will compete in a short set battle that will be voted on each week from Friday at 11PM until Monday at midnight. On Tuesday, the rankings from the previous week’s set will be posted and how they play into the next week’s competition, since each week will have a special task/twist.

To register your character/character’s band, submit the following to the submit box (since IDK if it’ll fit in the ask):

BAND/ARTIST NAME: MEMBERS (if an act is one or more people): GENRE: WILL THEY PLAY COVERS/ORIGINALS/BOTH? (both is encouraged, but not required!):

The winner of the BOTB will have their music played on Bullfrog Goldsworthy’s radio station and will be interviewed by the radio station as well. The top 3 acts of the battle will headline an upcoming benefit concert where proceeds will go to the Degrassi Community School Glee Club’s competition funds, and will be streamed from the club’s official YouNow account.

Submissions are open from now until next Wednesday, the 11th. Setlists can begin being sent in as soon as the act roster is posted and the weekly challenge is posted! Voting will be done on a polling site and posted from the glee account each week.

Alright guys, so I get the feeling that everyone’s kind of...tense...and...weird. It’s a weird vibe going around right now...and there’s a lot of important stuff coming up...so I need that to go. This week, I want you guys to just take some time, and think of a song to help you all vent. Get the frustration out...get the sadness out...whatever needs to happen...just go with it.

Also, PSA, the annual Valentine’s Dance will be next Friday night. Hopefully, it will not end in disaster like last year. Hopefully, it will go smoothly. Anyway, yeah, it’s next week...be thinking of songs you’d like to sing for that if you want to sign up to do so!

Oh my god, you guys...I don’t know who did...all of that mess in the hallway this morning, but it’s completely unacceptable. You can’t just go around putting other people on blast, especially two guys who aren’t out as far as their sexuality goes! That’s serious. I don’t know if it was someone in here or not, but I’m just going to speak to all of you when I say...this club is about love and acceptance. You all are a team. Sectionals are coming up and now this. I save this assignment every year for a time in which it is needed. That time has come.

Outside looking in. Exactly what it sounds like. I want you to pick a situation that you know someone else is going through, find a song about it, and sing it. Try to understand someone else for once instead of focusing on and singing about your problems. It may help you all out more than you think.

We’re continuing prep for sectionals this week...specifically working hard in the paint on “Kids in America”, so niners and sophomores...get ready to really break out your dancing shoes and...ditch that extra soda at lunch, because I’m not nearly in the mood to deal with all the ridiculousness and screaming. Okay, guys, because I cannot get enough of Reputation...this week is going to be Taylor Swift week in glee! Go all the way back to “Tim McGraw” or plan some revenge with “Look What You Made Me Do”...just make sure you kill it. Also, please remember that the 80′s dance is this Saturday. Plan your songs for the dance accordingly...Taylor doesn’t really suit the 80′s dance, even if you pick from 1989.

On that note, sectionals is right around 2 weeks away, and so we are going to be starting prep for that as well this week. The three songs that we’ll be performing are: Kids in America...which will be done by the freshman and sophomores...please don’t make me regret this decision...Every Breath You Take, done by the juniors and seniors...and then....the ultimate of all glee club numbers...Don’t Stop Believing...which everyone will do. I’m so excited to start actual competition this year. It’s going to be a blast, and I hope everyone’s just as excited as I am!

Okay, so, this week is going to be a little mix of everything Degrassi’s glee club is famous for. We’re going back in time again…to the 2000′s…boys versus girls edition! While you can totally still sing solo songs if you want, we’ll mainly be working on dividing each grade up…boys versus girls…and doing a group number from within. So, each grade needs to send up a representative to draw from the fishbowl.

LAYLA drew “HE LOVES U NOT” by DREAM for the GRADE 10 GIRLS. No one could decide aka Shelby couldn’t find a grade 10 boy so Gavin pushed to the front and drew “IT’S GONNA BE ME” by NSYNC for the GRADE 10 BOYS.

SAVANNAH drew “LADY MARMALADE” by MYA, PINK, CHRISTINA AGUILERA, LIL KIM, AND MISSY ELLIOTT for the GRADE 11 GIRLS. HARRY drew “GIVE ME JUST ONE NIGHT (UNA NOCHE)” by 98 DEGREES for the GRADE 11 BOYS.

This week, as we prep for a huge event that’s a coming of age tradition and the beginning of the end for the seniors...we’re going to take it back to childhood with a 2000′s rewind! Channel your favorite songs from your childhood and perform them as they were or put a new twist to it! ...Just have fun!

Alright guys, this week...this week is the week I have been preparing for and getting excited for the entire year so far! This week...is Born this Way week. I want everyone to channel your biggest insecurities and put them to song...and on top of that, on Friday, we will be inviting the alums back to our stage to do Born This Way by Lady Gaga...

And for this number, you’ll be bringing in a white shirt and you’ll screen print your biggest insecurity...right on the front. Then, on Friday night, we’ll have a bonfire to burn the shirts and symbolically move on with our lives.
