yall know that most of us are not mad because benji or dinostar is not canon, we're mad because kenji x brooklyn is really random and they have zero romantic chemistry, right???, they give strong siblings vibes. not to mention she's 13 and he's 16, im sorry but that's just weird 💀 if the writers really wanted them to be a couple they should've started giving them some development at least 2 seasons ago, kenji flirted with brooklyn once in season 1 and they never had any other actual romantic interaction. like yeah i have my ships but i honestly wasn't expecting the writers to make anything canon, after all they are kids and i just want to get them to therapy

Camp Cretaceous s4 review (SPOILERS)
Tumblr media
The season over all was pretty good; doesn't really rank above the other seasons but I love the new enviorment and MAE <3 Seeing Darius' brother pick up the call and hearing Darius was a shocker! And the ending with Mr. Kon reuniting w Kenji was such a good cliffhanger. Though I can't stand Brooklyn x Kenji. the set up was really bad and the chemistry came out of no where???? them getting together was just awkward. I feel like Kenji having a crush on her was just ???? s3 ending episodes with Kenji being protective of her felt brotherly; it just feels out of place. Can't wait for s5!

This because we had a whole genuine connect with Yasammy, Dinostar, and Benji. but the ship where they seem more like siblings??? heck even Kenji x Sammy made more sense then this it kind of makes me uncomfortable and really outta character
Tumblr media
S4 SPOILERS
I wanted to talk about this relationship (Brooklyn and Kenji) it was a bit off to me because Brook is the around 13 and Kenji is around 15 so it seems weird right? plus they had no chemistry in previous seasons except Kenjis bad jokes in S1 and Kenji saving Brooklyn. If you wanted a straight couple they could’ve made one that makes sense like dinostar but no… also why Kenji? Or Brooklyn? ALSO Benji and Yasammy seemed perfect but I guess dreamworks chose not to

Hello, I am white & aroace and I have a question if you have the time/feel like answering. I was just wondering if it is ok for me as a white person to headcanon a character of colour on a TV show/movie as aroace. I know that for black women for instance there are harmful stereotypes about how they are 'unloveable'. Does this mean that headcanoning black women as aroace would further this stereotype? I know this is something exclusionists at least say, but I can't really trust them on this.
Heyy, I can of course only answer this from my own perspective so I want to emphasize before I start that I am one person, I can not speak for any other PoC or any other black women. Everything else aside, PoC get to be uncomfortable with white people’s headcanons for characters of color and it’s not white people’s job to argue about it with us, no matter what any one (or ten or fifty) other PoC may have said.
With that out of the way, I do not think an aro ace headcanon for a character of color/black woman by a white person is automatically harmful. I find it very easy to imagine a black female character who is aro ace and at the same time clearly loved and cherished by people and who runs counter to many a shitty stereotype. I can also think of black women in media who have people love and cherish them very much and very obviously and prioritize them without romantic or sexual attraction being involved (in those particular relationships, not usually overall for the character) - and this stuff is SO IMPORTANT to me. Romantic and sexual attraction don’t need to be involved for a black woman to be loved and cared about.
However. I’ve seen a lot of people who hc black female characters as aro ace to then focus on other characters and their romantic/sexual relationships. Who want the black woman to get out of the way of their ship, or who want her to be so strong she needs no one and does everything on her own without support, too often while supporting everyone else (= typically the white characters). And fuck no I am not here for that, I am not. People need to stop that shit.
Now a lot of people in “ace discourse” have made this about aces/aros acting crappy more than about white people acting crappy, which is… absurd and a tad alarming to me because the people trying to get PoC/frequently black women away from their ships like this are not automatically ace/aro. They are white people who’re racist and whether they are ace/aro is usually anyone’s guess. That particular, common sort of racist aro ace headcanon is not typically about ace/aro representation - our orientations are simply being used as a convenient excuse to sideline characters of color.
This trend in “ace discourse” is also crappy because a lot of people have just treated aces/aros as a subset of white people and essentially told us all to leave characters of color alone with our quest for representation, and with our headcanons. (White people have told aces/aros of color this.) It’s really weird and really harmful.
Is any aro ace headcanon for black women that doesn’t do this particular sort of thing outlined above automatically non-racist? No. This is just a particular nasty kind of headcanon that pops up way too often. No matter what, you have to check yourself and you have to listen to black women and you have to do your best to not make PoC uncomfortable.
However, I’ve said before that I personally in fact would be wary of a white person who has a hundred ace/aro headcanons because they relate to the characters, but not a single one for a PoC - since those headcanons would be about identitfying with the characters in question, and too many white people are not great about identifying with characters of color, to say the least. At the same time, having a headcanon is not the same as loudly talking about it (possibly over the heads of PoC).
Basically I think there is nothing inherently wrong with an aro ace headcanon for a PoC/black woman by a white person, BUT white people tend to fuck up real bad and need to tread very carefully and to make checking themselves and not harming PoC a priority. If you upset a PoC with your headcanon or how you talk about that hc, exclusionist or no, that’s a bad sign and at the very least you should back off
(Wow this got long sorry for the small novel lol)
